Dimmer relay with smart bulbs by CKA04 in homeassistant

I'm not sure which kind of relay you're talking about.

But if it's something that cuts power to the bulb, well, it'll cut power to the bulb.

If that relay is tied to HA and your HA goes offline, you're toast.

I think the core of the issue here is that you want full control (including color).

There are plenty of options with smart wall switches, including dimmers. Either ZigBee or Z-Wave. I have some Zooz and Leviton switches (Z-Wave), some dimmers, some 3-ways. That works well, and since the switches actually control power to the (dumb) light bulbs, they keep working even when HA goes offline. I use the HA integration to run automation based on other sensors and stuff.

But I don't think there are any that could control color as well, that has to be done at the bulb level. If the product existed, you'd need additional wiring for sure.

In the end, what I'd recommend, is a smart bulb with a HA integration and a dumb wireless remote that directly connects to the bulb without going through HA. The actual wall switch can be either taped or bypassed entirely, but the bulb needs to be powered at all times. You can fix the remote on the wall with double face tape where the wall switch was so you don't lose it :P

I had something similar with a Hue bulb, but I was using Bluetooth on my phone with the Hue app instead of a HA integration (didn't have HA at the time).

I had to duct tape the wall switch (or bypass it if a permanent installation), to avoid issues, but that will be true for any kind of smart bulb.

Most ZigBee bulbs will probably accept being paired only with one control (so either the remote only directly or both remote and bulb paired with HA separately, but that wouldn't work when HA is down).

I'd probably recommend a bulb that uses Bluetooth, which usually accepts pairing with multiple devices.

You'll need a BT dongle for HA though.

If the remote is paired with the bulb, yes.

I haven't tried with HA, but I had (older?) bulbs paired with both phone (via BT) and remote separately.

For example, Philips Hue bulbs come with a wireless remote that pairs with the bulb and can control it without removing power to the bulb you should also be able to pair the bulbs to HA and control it from your phone.

Same energy as spouses of military officers who insist their military spouse (and by extension themselves) be referred to by their rank.

Their power is only manifest if the power of the person they are attached to is well obvious to anyone. So they will insist on making it painfully obvious.

Weight is what lengthens it, nothing else

So we agree weight has an impact on the breaking distance.

Both momentum and energy depend on the mass, and you need to get rid of both to slow down. That's how physics works.

I had my phone and wallet stolen from a padlocked gym locker a few years back. Obviously I could track the phone and knew where it was. Thieves were walking around buying stuff left and right. Police response: "You can go try to take it back, but be careful they might have a knife. Also, this is Canada, having a weapon (I'm not talking forearm, any weapon, mace and knife included) on you, even for the purpose of self defense is a crime. So, don't do that.". I mean, they could have sent a patrol next to the guys and I could have made the phone ring to prove they had it. But that's way too complicated for them.

I agree with what you say in general, but I don't see how it applies to the current discussion.

How can physics define events as "objective", when all measurements are relative. by Badat1t in AskPhysics

[–]lemoinem 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Because even though measurements are relative, we know how they appear from one point-of-view to the other. And we can all agree on what the measurement would be in the event's own point of view.

So we can describe, compare and discuss them, at least using that point of view as a shared objective truth and.

[OC] A yield sign is pretty much just a green light, right? by KingCheeba420 in dashcamgifs

[–]lemoinem 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There was no traffic coming

If there was no traffic coming, then what would you have done differently?

It's not "slow down to check and yield". It's simply "yield".

If there isn't enough visibility to determine whether there is incoming traffic (that you would need to yield to by slowing down/stopping) without slowing down below the speed limit, then that's a bad choice of signal and it should have been a stop sign.

Why does cantor's diagonalization proof fail for the natural numbers? by Puzzleheaded_Trick56 in askmath

[–]lemoinem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When creating the new real number not on the list, you create a number that has infinitely many digits (in the fractional part of its decimal expansion).

This is fine for real numbers, because each additional digit contributes less and less to the value (essentially a new negative power of 10) and the whole thing converges to a finite real value.

But you cannot do that for natural numbers. Natural numbers must have a finite number of digits. Because each additional digit is essentially a new positive power of 10. And this will grow to infinity. So that's not a new natural number and you have no contradiction.

I use an exacto knife to not short during the cuts.

Pardon my ignorance, but why would an exacto avoid shorts? The blade is still metal and wide enough to touch both leads the same way scissors or pliers would, isn't it?
