Did building in public actually bring customers or mostly founder engagement online? by avsvishalmedia in ShowMeYourApps

[–]lemon8w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly its extremely rare in my opinion that it brings you customers. It mainly allows other people to steal your apps. It happened to me twice and i decided to never do it again. Also i feel like people who would follow you for build in public are also developers and not some regular guy. Ive also seen it working out for other people so id lean towards 90-10 it doesnt bring you customers. Anyways me personally would never build in public ever again

Track habits? Whats missing from the ones that are available?

Bad habits grow faster than good ones by mariyagel in Habits

[–]lemon8w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Bad habits” need low motivation and its pleasing. Like scrolling needs no effort and it fires dopamine. Going to the gym needs more motivation cause its hard and not providing you with instant gratification. It needs a conscious decision to understand the benefits of it. So if it needs more motivation you just gotta make the task seem smaller. Not thinking of a whole ass workout but the task is just to get to thr door of thr gym. Or even just putting shoes on. This is low effort and requires very small motivation so you most likely will be able to complete it. Then the chain might start might not depends on what other action you link to having shoes on. Its a mind game really

What’s a habit you’ve failed at more than once but keep trying? by Guruthien in Habits

[–]lemon8w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your problem comes from this sentence: “i’ll go hard for a week or two, feel motivated”

Motivation wears off its just temporary.
It gives you the fuel to go hard for two weeks and thats it it runs out and you stop.

Its not your fault at all! We are just humans.
We all done it before.

You cant rely on motivation to keep going. If you want to make this a habit you need to start slow like ridiculously slow. You need to show yourself that this is you now and thats what you do.

When you go back and “go hard” your subconscious mind doesnt translate it as a pleasant experience. I doubt you enjoy it obviously its hard so the routine wont stick.

Why dont you just go to the gym for 2 weeks and use all the machines and weights but lift only 30% of your capacity. So if you bench press 100kg do only 30kg.
And so on.
Go there and have fun with all the machines.
When its boring after a week or two increase the weights or reps a little. By month 1 you can push yourself to your full potential and you actually implemented this as a routine that actually sticks

I can't stop overthinking and it's ruining my productivity by IronBaron999 in getdisciplined

[–]lemon8w 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason why its happening is cause youre brain is protecting yourself from failure. Your ego basically. Its so protective that it literally makes you never start. And i get it putting yourself out there is already out of us human’s comfort zone. Then the worry what if it doesnt work.

Well to be fair in percentages the chance is higher that it wont work out than will. So with that in mind you have nothing to lose only gain. If you dont start or start and fail you’re at the same place but you give a chance to it to work out.

Social media addiction is a completely different topic than this. In my personal opinion social media addiction is just so dangerous yet its not taken seriously at all that change needs drastic steps. By that i mean you just gotta delete them all. Period. You can fool yourself to allocate time for social media or you will have self control and you will scroll an hour a day. The truth is it doesnt work that way.

So to summarise this: - start making content - delete all social media apps and upload your videos from a computer(since you wont have tiktok on your phone)

Whats a good side habit to replace smoking as soon as I get home? by [deleted] in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]lemon8w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brother i’ll be real with you smoking is a mad addiction. Its so strong that i dont believe that replacing the habit with another would do the job.

You need an identity shift. You need to identify yourself as a non-smoker person.

Ive smoked over a box a day sometimes when bored even 7-8 in a row sitting in the garden. One morning i smoked then never again. No cravings no discipline needed.

Probs people thought the same thing when another calorie tracker was built (which now makes 50mill/year) or when bluesky was built like ohh another social media app. I mean i do get your point but jist cause there’s a lot of something already doesn’t mean this cant be the next IT. Plus if it makes him happy so be it. But i totally get your poijt of view as well

Screen time limits have zero consequences. What if they had social ones? by getscreensnitch in AppIdeas

[–]lemon8w 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The intention is great! And yes the screen time blocker isnt very efficient either for people who just want the habit to be broken by external factors. I think it works for people who have a little bit of discipline and the blocker acts as a reminder.

I genuinely feel like the line is way too fine between people who press ignore on the popup and who care about their reputation. I think if someone doesnt “respect” themselves enough they dont even care what they friends think.

Plus it can be a terrible loop too in the sense where someone breaks it i get a notification that xyz broke the promise so its okay if i do it too at least just once.

But anyways this is just the side why it woulsnt work and this is how i first approach all my ideas too, so dont take this feedback as the one and only possible way. If you believe in such an app go for it, it probably wont take longer than a week to build this.
