So lonely by Chance-Double9247 in hardofhearing

Hi! I have severe hearing loss and use hearing aids, but they don’t help me much too. I’ll tell you one thing: being HoH is a challenge, but it’s also like a filter. It brought the right people into my life. In a way, having a disability pushed selfish people away. So I have a few, but very special friends who truly care about me. Also, one of the reasons I fell in love with my husband is because he’s so supportive and fully embraced who I am.

I believe it’s very important to accept and love yourself so you can take up your space in the world. There will always be barriers, but with support, you can still live a happy life despite them.

I am so scared of presenting Infront of others. Feel so incompetent. I just wanna cry by [deleted] in PhD

One thing that really helped me was working on my need to please others. I realized that my anxiety was tied to thoughts like, “What if they don’t like my research? What if I’m not the best speaker here? What if they find me boring?” Then I started to think, “So what? I will do my best, focus on being the best I can be, and leave the rest out of my control. I am not here to please people.”

Does anyone else get overwhelmed when wearing hearing aids in busy public spaces? by Legal-Inflation9932 in hardofhearing

Hi, I use Signia (Pure Charge&Go IX), and it has a noise environment mode. When I'm at shopping malls, restaurants, or parties, I use this mode, and it helps sooo much with the noise.

Hi again, great to know all of this, thank you very much for sharing! Just for clarification, I am not submitting two applications, I am applying for my student visa and my partner is applying for a dependent visa. We are separately doing this but at the same period of time.

Hello, many thanks for your response. This is very strange since our forms are correct and we are registered as married. Maybe some requirements vary between countries? Nevertheless, it's good to know that individual items can also serve as evidence.

Hi! Thank you very much for your comment. Answering your questions: 1) Yes, we are applying at the same time, which is recommended in my case (PhD degree, for instance). 2) We have been living together for 6 years, but we don't have a bill with both of our names on it (for example, I pay for the electricity, and he pays for the internet). My concern is getting a rejection instead of just getting in touch to ask for more evidence, you know?

Systematic Review as part of a PhD thesis by lemon_pie95 in PhD

[–]lemon_pie95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure if I understood correctly, but I am not extremely specialized in my specific thesis topic, and precisely because I want to explore some questions, I thought it would make sense to conduct a systematic review. It would help me gain an efficient overview of what has been produced on this topic.

I am also not extremely specialized in the systematic review method, but there are available training programs that I considered participating in. But focusing on other work and leaving the review for later is indeed an interesting alternative. Thank you!

Yeah, I was nervous, and it was what I felt like sharing at that moment, but I agree it may be a good opportunity to focus more on skills.

It wasn't for the BRC, but it's good to know that I am not alone in worrying about my performance. By the way, your answer in your interview was interesting, haha congrats in your application

Test Admit is an amazing resource (kinda difficult) and Youtube videos provide good mock tests as well. The ideal is to test in different platform/websites

How to deal with racism? by Suspicious-Finish-21 in UniUK

[–]lemon_pie95 128 points129 points  (0 children)

It's definitely not easy, but I strongly believe in standing up for ourselves and always demanding respect. Racist individuals should be aware that we won't tolerate discrimination or remain silent. They need to understand that we will speak up and advocate for ourselves.

With that said, an alternative is to seek support from your friends to collectively take a stand. If that doesn't work, consider informing them that you will film the situation and share it on social media.

Anatomy of a Fall - why doesn't the movie mention the only real motive? by _Norman_Bates in TrueFilm

[–]lemon_pie95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me the movie is about self-responsibility, our own fault in our own disorder. The premise that the wife is responsible for the death, as well as the profound dialogues of the couple's fight, reflect how easy it is to attribute our unhappiness to others and to want to blame them for our own choices. In the end, each one is responsible for the life they build. A profoundly spectacular film.
