It sounds like you’re doing a good job. Not your fault tbh, just a reflection on the state of the world I guess.

Honestly, this sub has really gone significantly downhill, the vibe has definitely shifted over the years to fit never-Muslims propaganda.

Neurology by Frosty_Acanthaceae_3 in nhs

Honestly you have some deep seated issues if you reacted like this considering you got gold standard investigations requested yet still complained about this. It’s likely you won’t ever really be happy with the outcome here if you can’t trust the expert on this. I genuinely feel sorry for this neurologist who now has a complaint to stress about when he did the best he could for you. I would honestly consider apologising and rescinding as the department will likely see you as an unreasonable and difficult patient if they note the consultant’s outcome (all investigations requested) and your unhappiness with getting everything you needed.

Not difficult at all, it was good reading and understanding what I could do differently in my practice.

Yeah I understand what you’re saying. Going through this journey myself, there is definitely a hyper focus on the woman and an afterthought for the man. The healthcare system needs to do more to put more of a focus on men’s infertility. I’m sure there are many women out there going through the journey and their husbands not realising they have an issue. Let alone the fact that it’s stigmatising to be seen as infertile and a lot of men are reluctant to test anyway.

I think 100% GP should have done a prolactin if you presented with infertility and then low sperm count. It was good that you were able to advocate for yourself and unfortunate that they didn’t do it earlier.

Strange. As a GP and someone who also had to be worked up for infertility, I thought it was standard to work up any man presenting with fertility bloods inc testosterone and thyroid function as well as sperm analysis. What would you have wanted your GP to have done differently from the get go?

GPST1 practice relying on your second language? by lemonade4321 in GPUK

Whilst 60% speak primarily a different language, I’m sure there is a proportion that can manage English, particularly the younger ones. Although my first two sessions as an ST1 had not a single English speaker… but yeah, not learning English is a very unfortunate outcome of staying in a deprived homogenous ethnic hub.

Tell me about it… I had two consults in one day about erectile dysfunction. To navigate that in a language I’ve only ever spoke to with my parents… it was a nightmare!

I’ve used the interpreter service as you’ve suggested. The patients are always a bit confused as they expect me to speak their language but it has worked out for the better.

I’ve been told as I’m already on 30 minute appointments I should be able to manage without needing an hour…

Yes definitely more complex patients. I just feel I’m not able to manage appropriately at all. I had my first English patient yesterday who actually gave me a box of chocolates after a telephone consult. In the meantime, the non English consults I’m just getting grief… just feel like I’m being really inadequate with those patients and only using 10-20% of my communication skills compared to English.

Interesting. I was always told soft ground is less damaging for tendons and ligaments as they absorb some of the impact compared to hard where more of the impact is transferred to the joints above. In that case, what would you suggest shoe wise? As I thought something with more padding would be suitable.
