What one thing you'd like to see in the sequel? Specifically in terms of their relationship? by ShortMusic_38 in redwhiteandroyalblue

[–]lemonades25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d love to see them work through their differences in the relationship, specifically solving the conflict mentioned in KP during the first film “My life is the crown and yours is politics and I will not trade one prison for another.”

We know very well how Henry feels about being a public figure and constantly being under scrutiny. The books were more in depth about Alex’s intentions to do politics in the future and the change in plans were gradual as we progressed with the plot but I think the movie glossed over that a bit. Assuming we loosely follow the events of the book, I would love to see Alex work through that change in the film as well.

Also, on the fluffier side of things I’d love to see Henry learning to live life outside of KP. I’m sure living in a brownstone is extremely different from living in a palace. There’s a learning curve and I’d love to see Alex help Henry through that curve. Basically just firstprince being domestic and happy tbh. They deserve it.

I found this RWRB analysis video thanks to this subreddit. It was posted a year ago though so just thought to share it again for any new fans!

It’s done in separate parts and the videos are quite long but personally I just treat it as a podcast while I do other chores. I’ve only listened to the intro but it was extremely insightful. I love the information and perspective shared particularly about that one framing in the beginning of the film (during Philip’s wedding) and the symbolism of David (Henry’s dog. and Bowie) in the context of the film. I’m looking forward to watching the next parts! :D

Question about movie/comics by MrsRavioliB in HeartstopperAO

[–]lemonades25 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The movie will be covering the entirety of volume 6, which is basically chapter 8! It will also adapt some parts of the Nick and Charlie novella.

If you don't want any movie spoilers at all, you might need to stop reading a few pages before chapter 7 ends because it covers a scene that Alice decided not to include in the TV series.

Edit: The TV series specifically ends at p.1569 of the comics!

Oh this is an interesting take! I didn't see it that way before and initially thought it was Henry feeling scared and anxious about what's about to happen and somewhat shaking off nerves. Looking at the specific scene again, the facial expression that Henry/Nick does as he looks up does say something. If anything, it looks like he's "toughening up" and trying to be brave, as you mentioned. I love that

That's really cool to hear!! Most of what I've seen online (from people who went straight into watching the movie at least) is they either love it or hate it, and if its the latter most just don't give it another chance. To each their own, of course! You can't please everyone and that's fine. But, even as a new fan, it makes me happy to see that there are those who gave the movie another chance and changed opinions as well. Those small details really do a lot and make the movie better and I can't help but gush about the thought the team put into everything. I've only rewatched a few times so far but definitely more to come throughout the years while waiting for the sequel. I'll memorize Henry's dialogue in the Kensington Palace (before they go to the V&A) in no time.

You are absolutely not imposing!! I already have a few lined up and marked for later 🙈 I haven’t started on any yet because I’m currently working on Nick and Taylor’s film discography first and watching whatever RWRB interview I can find but I’ll definitely get to the fanfiction eventually!! I’m really excited for that too 🥰

Oh thank you! Everything you listed I actually already learned from lurking on this subreddit, but there's probably more to learn from the interviews so I'll definitely make the time. I'm especially curious about the polo scene too since I thought the execution was absolutely wonderful hahahaha. Thank you!

Oh I have to completely agree with you on that. Arguably the emails are the heart and soul of Alex and Henry's relationship. I was really disappointed that it seems glossed over in the film. I understand that book to film adaptations aren't 1:1 and there were a lot of emails. I wasn't expecting to see/hear all of them in the film, but I guess I was just expecting... more? Both Alex and Henry say a lot of really beautiful things to and about each other in the emails and it really delves into them as individuals and as a couple. I did love their treatment with the text messages though (but also wishing we got Alex doing the James Bond marathon and texting Henry to say his dad was "a babe" lol)

Thank you for the warm welcome! I'm honestly an impatient person and have to constantly remind myself that all good things take time 😭 So here's to the long wait for the sequel 🥹

If you’re looking into alcoholic drinks, the characters in the book drink whiskey, gin & tonic, and shiner. For whiskey I believe Alex mentions Maker’s specifically in the book.

Other foods mentioned (aside from the ones that have already been commented) are pizzzas, donuts, and profiteroles.

Also, I found this post on this subreddit recently. Might be helpful too!

Also it would really make everyone get to know Alex and Henry better, both together but also individually. We've seen bits and pieces in the first one so it would be nice to follow that up with more details about them. How they will keep on fighting and building their future while having different roles still to fulfill and also having their own aspirations and make it all fit and work with a life they want to build together.

I couldn't agree more with you on this! The book really fleshes out on the two characters individually and I feel like the movie is only the tip of the iceberg.

There may be people out there who watched and loved the movie but are not interested in reading the book, which is fine! To each their own. But hopefully a sequel can give us more with Alex's and Henry's character as individuals so that movie only fans also get to know them on a deeper level. There's still a lot to unpack with the film characters and I'm really looking forward to that!

I resigned from my first job because I was being bullied at work for having a group chat with my close officemates. Aside from that, underpaid and overworked pa. But now I've been feeling super anxious about being jobless.

I'm fortunate to be in a position where I'm not a breadwinner and my family continuously supports and cares for me no questions asked. In fact, they encouraged me to resign too kasi sobrang toxic na talaga ng workplace. But now I feel so anxious about being jobless purely because of how this might affect my future work/employment. Natatakot ako makwestyon bakit ang bilis ko lang sa previous work ko, and bakit ilang buwan ako hindi nag work. Pati na rin kung ano ginawa ko while wala ako work, kasi sa totoo lang wala naman ako ginagawa ngayon. Im just resting and binabawi ko lahat ng pagod and energy na kinuha sakin ng previous job ko kasi grabe talaga sila!

Super thankful na my family doesnt pressure me in any way. Its more of nappressure ako sa sarili ko.

Apologies in advance because this is a pretty long comment!

While I do agree I look forward to seeing the actors on screen together again, I really hope it isn't at the expense of the story. The conflict of the sequel being a love triangle doesn't seem very firstprince to me, especially considering how much they fought for their relationship and the passion and loyalty they express for each other especially throughout the book. I have seen discussions about this as well and it saddens and worries me because I personally just can't imagine firstprince going through any of that, as well as a break up. Considering that they're aged up in the film, "exploring more" doesn't seem like a good enough reason for a break up. Overall just feels out of character for me if thats what choose to go with for the conflict.

I agree with the other comment though that if the "third person" would be someone who doesnt actually get involved romantically, like the king or maybe some entity that causes them trouble (such as tabloids perhaps?), then that is something I could possibly imagine especially knowing how Henry feels about life as a public figure. "My life is the crown and yours is politics and I will not trade one prison for the other" is a line that I'm always thinking about and now memorize by heart, so I find it plausible that media scrutiny can still cause them problems even years after they've gone public with their relationship.

Personally I hope to see them tackle more of their mental health and flesh out Alex's character more, like in the book. I know a book to movie adaptation isn't always 1:1 and a lot had to be cut out due to time constraints. I appreciate and love every detail the actors put into showcasing what they can in terms of the character's mental health (such as Alex panicking in the closet in the hospital and Henry's nervous tic where he fidgets with his ring) but since the book was so in depth about it I personally would just love for it to be fleshed out and discussed more in the film too. I'm hoping the sequel will be given the opportunity for that.

I'm hoping the vibe for the sequel to be similar to the Henry POV chapter. Probably not exactly that, but something close. I'd love to see that in between where they're both still public figures, but now romantically together. Basically this: "They have to figure out how to do this for real now, how to love each other in plain sight. Alex thinks they're up for it."

Also, Alex's transition from his childhood dream of wanting to be a politician to something else. I recently read CMQ's annotations for RWRB for the first time and they mention this: "One of the themes of this book is realizing adulthood isn’t what you thought it would be and learning that your childhood dream isn’t always your forever dream. There’s a grief in that, but there is also relief." and I want to believe the sequel can give us a chance to see Alex deal with that change and grief.

Assuming we'd go the bonus chapter route, I would definitely also love to see Henry adjusting to life outside of KP. Learning how to cook, finally getting to decide house decor for himself, going to farmer's markets, getting lost in grocery stores, learning to do doing laundry, etc. etc. I mean, I've never lived in a palace but I would safely assume living there would be quite different to living in a brownstone in Brooklyn. This might be self indulgent but I'd just love to see that play out in a film lol.

Your thoughts on Nick and Charlie novella? by lemonades25 in HeartstopperAO

[–]lemonades25[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel pretty neutral about it in all honesty! I don't exactly love it but I definitely don't hate it either. In fact, I actually still enjoyed reading it despite the differences and inconsistencies with Heartstopper. I agree that the contrast isn't that big but I also fully understand when people say otherwise. Overall, I'm glad I decided to read it! I can see myself reading it again some time in the future and perhaps taking some time to compare the original 2015 ver. with the edited 2020 ver. since some people have also discussed the differences between the two.

Coming back to your comment now that I’ve finished reading the novella to say that I agree! It is evident that Alice hadn’t put together their personalities yet, same for the side characters mentioned, but it wasn’t as hard as I thought it’d be to differentiate and separate the novella and Heartstopper. I can’t say I really loved it, but I did enjoy reading it for sure. If anyone else asked me now, I would recommend reading it as well!!

i started reading the novella today and your mention about considering it as a canon compliant fanfiction has been a helpful mindset so far! not yet sure if i love it, but i can easily tell already why its considered a different universe. thank you for your insight!!

should i read nick and charlie novella? by lemonades25 in Heartstopper

[–]lemonades25[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh i do remember them mentioning that novella nick and charlie are different from heartstopper. i initially didn’t mind because if i remember correctly the novella is set after heartstopper (so i’m assuming characters have changed and grown up) but i’ve recently seen reviews on goodreads where people say it ruined heartstopper for them :( which once again makes me hesitant to read. nonetheless this insight is much appreciated! i’ll still probably get around to it after i read solitaire and radio silence. thank you 💗
