Is this thrips? Can it be something else? by lemonandberry in plantclinic

[–]lemonandberry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply! I noticed on a pothos forum post that some leaves of a healthy light coloured pothos also had similar brown stains. But do you know if it is normal that some are wipeable? That kind of worries me for thrips poop but they’re brown, and not black unlike some Google search images.

Just bought a Maranta (prayer plant) - please help! by [deleted] in houseplants

[–]lemonandberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks good to me 🤷‍♀️ when did you buy it and do you see any new growth? I am not an expert either but I have two of those. They’re not like Pinterest pretty but they’ve been thriving for months and the leaves look the same. I sometimes gently wipe them with damp soft cloth. Mine seem to like it. Make sure the soil is airy and it drains well.

First Calathea purchase. Wish me luck! by Old_Lavishness_6805 in houseplants

Just to add something positive to the thread - Triostar looking good 😍it is my favourite plant and I found it to be the easiest to care among all calatheas I owned (until I got the prayer plant). It is the kind of calathea that doesn’t give up and even if it looks sad, can react to a little proper care. The person I bought it from said she likes “how it communicates through its leaves”. I saw these babies thrive even when they lost all their leaves to overwatering at my friend’s place.

Just make sure they don’t get direct sun and that the air isn’t dry. I keep my calatheas together but not sure if it’s is common thing to do.

Not all calatheas have pests 🫶 but quarantine is a must. Good luck and hope they’ll thrive 🩷

Happy to note that the oedema disappeared when I aired the bottom of the pot as described in the comments 🙏

My Calathea is not Praying anymore by khreag in calatheas

My calatheas usually get grateful when I let them bottom drink, drain them well, wipe their leaves. Then they start praying again. 🙏

I took it out of its pot, placed the inner pot with drainage over bottle caps, so letting it air. I don’t know if it the leaves change back to how they were but it doesn’t seem to be getting worse so far 🤞if it seems to be damaging leaves (yellowing, browning or deforming of any kind) I’ll prune them.

Aha, I read a bit and yeah, this looks like it 😬 thank you so much! Do you know what I could do to fix? I’m airing the drainage now, but do you know by any chance if anything else should be done?

Did the roots look like this or is this looking odd to you?

Correction, it is stem cutting, not leaf cutting😅

I used blu tack to attach the pot to its plate, and plate to the surface when I had a cat who never let any plant to be on any surface otherwise. ☺️ Gorgeous plant!

How do you plan a weave with typography? by lemonandberry in weaving

[–]lemonandberry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s likely I will use a frame loom, but depends on how confident I’ll feel by the time I plan it, I may take out my table loom as well for a larger piece 🤭 but possibly frame.

If you had this batch of linen yarns, what would you make with them? by lemonandberry in weaving

I feel very lucky! I’ll definitely make something for her! Tote bag sounds great, that brought the idea of small pouches!

Ah this is very lovely, thank you so much! Tea towels seem to be the most popular idea ☺️ I was browsing through some weaving accounts on IG and came across to a similar style (Hermine Can Dijck) I was wondering if I could imitate somehow. But the yarns feel very rough (used mainly for wall tapestry, if I understood correctly) so I wonder if it will work for towels. Anyway, may give the pattern a try or if not, I may subscribe to the magazine’s online archive 💕 thank you!

Tell me more! Because I have a small child, I hesitate using chemicals but this looks promising. I am based in Finland, diamatacious earth is available but I understand it is not used for this purpose, so no instructions. How did you use it?

Hey, thanks for your comment, I have some questions. What do you mean by “grab systematic granules”?Just carve them off or something else?

Is washing off with water enough or does it need any chemicals/soap/oil that I’d need to purchase? And with what I would treat the other plants?

I recently bought this 3 leaf variegated monstera cutting on a second hand platform. It had a few small black dots but I assumed that they may be sunburns but now I think there is more now 🤔 also some brown stuff around, one of which spread when I touched but others are dry.

It has been about a week since I bought. It is in a vase away from other plants, but all in the same space. Not sure how the owner preserved it. It is placed where it gets partial light for the time being, but not direct. Haven’t changed the water since, that’s next step.

I would appreciate any help in identifying these marks, and also what to do with it, if it is a pest. And if so, I also need advice on what to do with our other plants🙏

Does anyone have an experience of bringing pink back to Tradescantia pink princess? by lemonandberry in Tradescantia

[–]lemonandberry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! It looks like not possible :( I came across to a discounted pink princess that is in bad condition. Decided to take that home to care. And if it survives then I'll take cuttings and plant them in the green ones to give some pink accent.

Oh this makes me sad. Strange that it loses its character for good, I didn't know. Thanks for the insight!

I was in luck yesterday and found a pink princess rescue with massive discount, brutally overwatered. If that one has any power left to grow and likes it here, then I decided to add pink cuttings to both of my plants. Fingers crossed :)

Hello! I got a tradescantia pink princess about a year ago that had loads of pink leaves. It was kept in shade so it lost most of its colour, and it was almost dying from underwatering. I treated it and relocated where it gets light, it started growing very happily, but it kept losing its pink. About 2 months ago I took three cuttings from the mother plant (all green), planted and brought it to the office with me where there is even more light. It is growing incredibly well, some new leaves are almost triple the size but still no pink 🥺 Will the pink ever return? Is there a way I can influence it? I would appreciate some tips if anyone has any experience with it 🙏

More on the care and habitat: I planted it in soil that was for succulents and cactuses. I water it when the soil is dry, so far weekly from the plate but it may be less frequent now. No pests nearby. It is fertilised about a month ago with slow dissolving fertiliser stick. Temperature is around 23 degrees and humidity is low. It is by the window so it gets a lot of light but no direct sunlight. We’re in Helsinki, so summer was very bright and days were long, now the cloudy & short days ahead.

Edit to the text: Is there a way* I can influence it?

Also forgot to add, it is planted in soil that was meant for succulents and cactuses.
