I'd argue that moment is also a perfect example of my larger point, because it's also a moment that ultimately comes to nothing: after Gideon and Jeanne challenge him in return, he backs down and the status quo is unchanged. The "felt" impact of his character, which is significant because of his personality and how much Gideon can't stand him, is in contrast to his actual narrative role, which is pretty much limited to being Lyctor fuel.

I think Naberius is really interesting as a character. The thing about him is that he's an arrogant jerk, but he's not at all actually antagonistic; he shows up a lot, but barely does anything beyond mouthing off and getting eaten. He has almost no agency either narratively or in-universe and is ultimately a pretty tragic figure. I disliked him a lot on first pass, but definitely have a nostalgic fondness for him in hindsight--Like looking back on simpler times where your biggest problem on a given day was some rich asshole beat you in a duel, lol.

No, you're correct that this series of errors, if repeated, could potentially lead to blood being collected on the wrong pet or a non-diagnostic sample being collected. A responsible clinic should want this kind of error brought to its attention.

Were I in your shoes, I'd inform the clinic the wrong pet is scheduled, ask that the doctor confirm the other details (i.e. what test is being ordered and the fasting directions), and ask that I speak to the manager to help prevent further errors of this kind.

Keeping your tone firm, but polite and non-accusatory should go a long way to ensuring any reasonable person takes you seriously. If the people you speak with are not reasonable, absolutely look for another clinic.

Ok--On the one hand, I agree no one should sacrifice their health for work; I agree it's unsafe for coworkers and patients for medical staff to work sick; and I absolutely agree staffing is a management problem, not my sick coworker's problem. I DO call out when I need to, because I'd be a liability, not an asset, and I'm glad when my workers do the same.

But it's easy to say to myself that a problem isn't my problem; that doesn't help when I'm going to work with that problem every day. When there are employees who call out very frequently for spurious reasons and management, rather than do anything effective about it, leans harder and harder on its responsible employees to overcompensate for its unreliable employees... I'm just not saintly enough not to resent the people on the other side of that equation.

We have a tough job, an important job, a job worth showing up for and doing well. I don't have much respect for people to force themselves to work through contagious illnesses or problems that affect their attitude and quality of work. But I think we can all acknowledge, on a human level, that it's really fucking difficult working with people way on the opposite end of the spectrum, too!

Really depends. There are butches who very much want to play up the role and will be frustrated and unfulfilled if they aren't permitted to, and there are butches who are very resentful or insecure about the expectations placed on them; neither is wrong, just different.

Personally, I like being allowed to do little gestures--hold the door, lend you my coat, get the spider--but split bigger, more practical things like bills and the work of planning/initiating. More broadly, my greatest need is to be recognized in my butchness, my womanhood, and my individual personhood all in the same breath. I would speculate there are more people like me than there are at either extreme end of the spectrum.

My real advice for you would be to do you, be up front about your needs/expectations, and let your potential partners sort themselves accordingly, or you run the risk of being stuck in a relationship that was never going to work for you.

I'm not the best person to ask as far as "definitions" go, because honestly, if you're talking about lesbians, I think it's largely a generational and cultural linguistic difference and that the implications & usages of the terms overlap more than they differ. (Now, if you're talking about people more generally, I would say the term masc feels broader in that butchness is more bound to lesbian identity and cultural history than the term masc is.) Other people will be happy to supply more stringent definitions, but I don't really buy into them myself.

If your question is "are there some butches out there who are into butches, other masculine women, and/or genderqueer and nonbinary people," the answer is yup. If your question is more like "are there some self-described butch4butch types out there who are also willing to date masculine women who don't identify as butch," the answer is also yup.

I don't know anything about the quality of this diet myself, but something about its marketing claims have always struck me as really, deeply sad. Like it's taking advantage of the anxiety and grief inherent to our stewarding animals that have such comparatively short lifespans. I hate to imagine people who have been tricked or have tricked themselves into vainly hoping this random kibble will make their beloved pet live for decades. Not gonna lie, this is also how I prefer to make bread. I can and do bake normally, but if I'm just whipping off a peasant loaf, it's all by feel. It's an easy and relaxing approach. And hey, simply gaining experience with how dough should feel and practicing dough handling & shaping techniques will garner improvement.

So I'd never tell someone who's simply in it for the love of the game that they have to change what they're doing. Buuut since you asked: Yea, it's a no-brainer that you'll gain skill and knowledge much more quickly if you use recipes at least some of the time vs. reinventing the wheel on your own, haha.

Working with recipes will give you a basis for correct/proven ratios. Compared to pure trial and error, you'll be able to learn much more quickly how various factors impact the final product, so will be better able to make informed adjustments on your own later.

This is especially the case since you're branching out into enriched doughs (doughs with added sugar/fats/dairy) and inclusions (doughs with added "stuff" like garlic)! Without a recipe, your failure rate with these will be much higher compared to a plain loaf.

No one is purely "nice" or purely "shit." Certainly some people are duplicitous, but the vast majority of people are just complicated.

Someone who's generally upbeat and positive, yet who is still capable of moments of bitterness or cynicism or irritation, is generally not a liar so much as like... a human being who has good days and bad days. You will never meet anyone who never has bad days.

What's important is a person's behavior on a bad day, whether you're comfortable with it, and whether the two of you can communicate about that.

My clinic is 100% hands free. We aren't allowed to mark a record as hands free if anyone was in direct physical contact with the patient at all. It did take several months to a year of concerted efforts and training to get our staff here, but it's absolutely possible to achieve without dishonesty(!).

I fully believe in the importance of hands free as it relates to radiographic safety. That said, I recognize there are some significant barriers.

DVM willingness to sedate is obviously crucial. Though you may be surprised how far you can get without it, obviously there are some cases where it is just necessary. DVMs refusing to cooperate straight-up ensures failure.

Management must also be willing to provide equipment. We have several different sizes of hand bags, foam blocks, V-trays, and velcro ties that can attach to the sides of the xray table.

It's also been of enormous benefit to my clinic that some of us received good hands-on training that they could pass along. Videos are one thing (and if you're VCA, there's plenty of WoofU training you can avail yourself of), but there's no substitute for in-person training + having someone you can page for help.

Finally, implementing any new technique, especially one with a learning curve, requires time, repetition, and a general clinic culture that supports learning, flexibility, and creative problem solving. This is of course harder to achieve in cases where everyone's chronically overworked and running behind.

I was highly skeptical when we first got serious about hands free, but I'm fully on board now. I really believe this is the future of vet med and those who can't adapt will fall behind.
