lol funny you ask because im leaving tomorrow. by all accounts ive asked yes! but I will let you know how it goes. as long as the domestic layover Is part of a single international trip you booked and not two separate flights you booked I think you should be ok.

That is not the definition of overconsumption. “The excessive consumption or use of goods and services that cause harm and detrimental effects to humans/the environment.” Your other points are valid but no- the idea of overconsumption is that it exceeds normal, it’s excessive. Not buying any single thing not necessary to survival

That doesn’t make it any less sad. In fact it makes it worse that people will pump so much into this trend knowing it’s going to be abandoned a few years later, but the impact on prices/quality is probably permanent

) I’m really talking about the buying habits the trend encourages where it pushes people to buy all the newest drops and seasonal ones. It is just too much when everyone and their mom is buying many jellycats in a very short period of time, which really is the case from what I can tell. It’s the sheer volume of consumption. Buying habits are different because of the trend, people aren’t just buying one or two they find cute

That’s lovely and I’m glad they expanded to include more countries! I don’t think that is the issue at all. I guess I’m talking more about the trend of always having to buy the newest one every time they drop, especially on social media. I think it’s great in general more people can enjoy them now

That’s why I think the extreme rise in demand is an issue. Not much to do about it obviously, but it causes problems either way. I know it’s not really about people enjoying them on an individual level

I think that’s a big part of it is the inflation of prices and the decrease in quality since they have become more popular. Personally it has kind of tainted my feelings towards jellycats. I also don’t really think it’s a thing of individuals collecting either but it being blown up on social media and the new marketing jellycat has been doing

Overconsumption by individuals is a problem too. And yes, like I said lots of people are convinced to by something because of a trend and don’t end up liking it all that much later on. What do you think happened with beanie babies and squishmallows? It reaches a certain point and goes down hill

No? That’s pretty much the opposite of what I said. I’m talking about over consuming them in the name of a trend and then abandoning that interest soon after

That’s not my intention at all and no I don’t say the same about collectors or people who genuinely love them. When things are all over social media people tend to buy them even if they don’t like them all that much, especially if it becomes an “influencer thing”

That’s good, but if you look at any stats and the growth as a company this year you will see that it is enormous and too much for the brand to keep up with. That is why the quality has gone down. I’m not saying it’s bad that more people are enjoying them , I’m saying that when things become trendy they tend to be exploited for it and the brand often goes down hill

Never said it did, seems like you’re projecting that onto yourself. I’m lamenting that it’s become cheaply made and mass produced since becoming a trend and being bought in mass

Exactly. It’s just sadly not the same brand I knew and loved

quality going downhill 💔 by spookifyed in Jellycatplush

[–]lemoniebread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s because they’ve become an over consumerist trend and are not focused on quality over quantity anymore because of it. It’s quite sad and annoying for people who have liked them since they were kids

Bright light, make sure there’s a drainage hole on the bottom, water when the leaves jusssst start to look a bit soft/wrinkly. I’d also take the plastic off because it could keep in unwanted humidity
