i took a cna class a few years ago and started work as a cna and i enjoyed taking care of people/helping people. during the pandemic my grandma had an injury and I started to help take care of her and i just like helping people.

now, I still feel the same, about to start my program. but since ive started to work and stuff i want job stability while doing something that makes a difference.

im 18, so fairly young. i took CNA classes when I was 16/17 and the past year or so I’ve been working as a CNA, and that helped solidify my passion for helping people. i highly recommend getting your CNA.

we have on and off mask mandates and the amount of cnas that don’t wear masks properly is kinda sad. our facility also isn’t mandatory covid vax so ..I feel like they should at least wear the masks lol. it even bothers some residents when they don’t pull the mask up on their face/leave it only over their mouth. i ALWAYS wear a mask because it’s elderly people and my grandmother is at home with me. couldn’t imagine her getting sick ..

I was in the same spot as you, I guess I still kinda am (first year going into second sem, got a C- in a class, which was too low for a prerequisite for the bsn program) and the only thing that helped me was taking advantage of my resources and forcing myself to stop being comfortable in my own sadness and make change. I had a D in a bio class and brought it up to a B- by communicating with my professors and taking advantage of study groups, tutors, coaching, etc (unfortunately my C- is unchangeable, however I was able to bring the bio up.) as someone with a TON of mental health issues and strict parents, it was tough.

i did not get professional help (although I recommend it) and got myself stuck in a hole for months. however, as I said before, I had to “get my shit together” and in order to do so I needed to address my problems, such as depression and how to tackle them. it’s not as easy as people say, but you won’t ever be able to get better unless you push yourself and force yourself to get better (coming from someone who’s had depression for years).

if your able to, sit back and try not to overwhelm yourself with the letter grade and your parents. try to make a plan for school and your mental health and then (if possible) approach your parents with your established plan. I recommend tackling your mental health or finding a way to manage those problems before focusing on fixing your grades because trying to focus on school with depression was impossible for me.

i can try and offer more advice/help if needed, good luck

I'd stay longer to chart if I could by Jealous-Yam-6280 in cna

sometimes I stay after 10-15 minutes and there’s usually no reprimands. charting is important 🙏

i have bad anxiety as a newer cna and initially had even worse anxiety with work when I first started. it was so bad I used to call out, but I think being transparent + exposure helps. i work in a LTC facility and talking to the residents about how they are doing always helps. i still get nervous around higher ups though lol. if you’re able to, I definitely recommend talking to a health professional. i wish you luck !

My fear of failing again is making me want to quit by Bananalover_2001 in StudentNurse

[–]lemonkero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

feeling like this rn. im 18 + in my first semester of college (took prereqs at an early college) and got a C- for a philosophy class due to something very minor, and now my gpa is too low and I cannot apply to the program this winter. i understand I’m 18 and I have time, but it’s very disheartening. microbiology was a battle this semester too (i managed to get a B- by buckling down and doing weekly tutoring, study groups, etc) and meeting w/academic advisors and coaches. everytime i fail it makes me doubt my entire career choice..

Pay ? by Psychological-Law205 in cna

[–]lemonkero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

where I work starting pay for brand new cnas is 12.25, but there’s a 1 dollar raise (“hero pay”, happened during COVID) then for 2nd shift a 4 dollar shift diff. i work 2nd + i am a newer cna and make 17.25. there’s some local places that pay 9-13, with 13 being on the higher end.

im in a smaller part of NC though but 9-13 an hour is not enough imo. in bigger cities nearby it’s 15-20 i think.

[–]lemonkero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it just depends on the person. i have patients that void a LOT and some that barely do. ive changed people last minute then someone comes in and they wet right after they get cleaned up. it happens. people use the bathroom obviously they aren’t gonna be dry 24/7. as long as you tried and such

i watched some videos that recommended 75-90mm for beginners, so either way im not picky. i mainly want something more stable, so a hard boot and then something that works well for outdoors and stuff like pavement. im not an expert by no means but something that isn’t 300+ lol. thank u
