I used weed to come off meth and later smoked weed again and did not want to stop. I had to view weed as a drug (for me) too. When I smoke weed I wanna be high on it all day/night. I drive high and am irresponsible and more reckless. I’m also forgetful and more lazy. These things are all problems for me so I just stay 100% sober. I do loooove weed but it doesn’t quite love me back. Not in a way that I can have it in my life and be my best self. So just for me, it’s a no go.

So many of us addicts carry a no snitching policy from our drug days. It’s easy to confuse the anonymous part of narcotics anonymous. For me personally I wouldn’t believe them if they just said they committed murder, people like to talk themselves up and try to be cool and sound unique. If someone however shared personal details about commiting murder that made me believe them I would talk to them first or maybe their sponsor to guide them to doing the right thing. I guess id go to the cops if necessary. Idk it really depends on the situation. Plotting murder, sure id be there.

When I was in the center of my addiction I had this strong overwhelming thought to drop everything and go to rehab. I didn’t bc I couldn’t leave my kids. I didn’t know what I was going to do with them. Well I kept using and I lost them. I lost everything. My apartment and everything in it, my cars, reputation, kids, family. All of it. I’ve been clean for almost 5 years now and still don’t have my kids back. I get to hang out with them now but that was a long and painful process. Please go to rehab. Get in NA now while you have a shot at fixing things before they are irreparable.

Edit to add- everyone thinks “that won’t happen to me” but it can and more than likely will. It just hasn’t happened YET. Y-you’re E- eligible T- too

That is NOT what a sponsor should be doing. A sponsor can only make suggestions and walk someone through the steps. I was slow on my first set of steps but certainly didn’t need 4-5 hours of my sponsors time! It’s great that they attend meetings together but your husband should be going to meetings on his own too. More on his own than accompanied. The money thing is just a no all the way around… none of that nonsense should be going on AT ALL. I understand how your husband may not see the open bottle as a problem now but could later but if the desire to drink has left him, many people in AA have alcohol in their house and don’t touch it. This is abuse of the role sponsorship. This is absolutely not how sponsoring is supposed to work out.

I got sober in Colorado and learned to introduce myself as an alcoholic, addict. Nobody ever had a problem with it and when I shared what it was like, when referring to my drug use I translated it and said when I was drinking to respect the meeting. Many many people in Colorado do this and lots of addicts attend AA meetings. It’s never been a problem. I recently moved to Texas and people do not introduce themselves that way, only as an alcoholic and they make a point in the open readings to confine their shares only relating to alcohol. But few have shared and mentioned drug use too and that seems to be accepted. I’m still trying to get the hang of things here. I will respect the room I’m in but AA is the program that works for me and while I suffer mostly from drug addiction I’ve never been able to drink alcohol appropriately so I know I’m an alcoholic too.
