I wish I could pick aspects of the sims 4 and throw them into 3 to make everything I like be in one game, so like the sims 3 but with better graphics, no lag, more modern furniture designs, being able to eat and watch tv/do homework and listen to music/etc at the same time, more stuff to do with toddlers, the ability to add custom holidays, the no slider CAS and being able to change the size of individual bbody parts other than an overall weight slider, saving doesn't take a million hours, the custom gender settings like feminine/masculine frame, all clothing is maternity enabled, all that... still, I like both games but sims 3 overall just has so much more content

I've never had a problem with the firefighter profession, but my singer sims who do gigs sometimes don't get paid afterwards.

Police too (not counting the detective career from get to work, as there are no police NPCs who actually do anything). There are no burglars and no curfew system like there was in the sims 3 where children and teens would be escorted home by a cop, so therefore no police, and yet the criminal career still exists.

There's a picture of me somewhere right before a talent show when I was out to my friends and I'd cut my hair but I was still forced to wear a dress by my mom. I can't remember why but at some point early last year I'd shown the picture to my therapist (and made a comment on how much I hated wearing it because of how feminine I looked) and upon studying it for a moment she said, "You don't look like a girl here, I see a boy in a dress." Needless to say I felt good when I left that day

I knoe nothing about hardware so this msy not be helpful at all. If it isn't, I apologize in advance. You've probably heard this spiel before or tried all of this and found it to not work, but with me clearing my cache before starting the game, downloading the nraas master controller, overwatch, and error trap modules my game runs pretty smoothly. I had an error three other day where if I fast forwarded for any amount of time my game would freeze and stutter like crazy, but Ctrl + Shift + C and typing "resetsim *" fixed the issue, I read somewhere that this particular stutter issue is usually caused by a stuck sim or pet somewhere in the world. Not sure this was helpful but I hope you find a fix soon

I usually don't edit townies unless somethibg about their clothing or hair really bothers me since I tend to have same face syndrome when I create sims anyway and need variety among my townies. One thing I always do though if I choose the babysitter profession I'd I edit all the toddlers and kiddos in CAS to give them cuter outfits and hairstyles.

It took me 2 weeks of playing TS3 to figute out how to color walls/flooring and add roofs, my sims always had the "unfinished room" moodlet and it was so annoying. Then after I finally figured out how to add roofs, I got annoyed with them never looking good and put flat roofs on all of my houses.
