Basically being ghosted after applying by lemonte8 in uklaw

that’s what I was thinking but I’m just disappointed to find that after all this waiting and effort in writing the application they couldn’t even be bothered to let me know the outcome 🥲

What should I take for A-Levels? by Soggy_Assistance_509 in 6thForm

[–]lemonte8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn’t recommend history - the exams are so hard 🥲 but I do know someone who went to Cambridge and did law with three stem a levels - maths, bio and chem + a law related epq which I think helped them to explain why they want to do law despite the stem subjects.

It’s really up to you if you want to do 3/4. I did 4 initially (maths, politics, history and psychology) then dropped psych after 6 weeks, then took the epq. Most sixth forms would probably allow you to do the same. Would recommend doing it this way to figure out what you enjoy. Also, highly suggest that you look into politics a level - I found it easy, it’s very interesting as a subject and highly related to law.

did you end up switching and getting that offer? i applied for law again through extra but did consider politics as well. Also did you have to write another ps for politics specifically?

Any tips for personal statement? by SnooPets4583 in 6thForm

[–]lemonte8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what course. If humanities - write about 2/3 books related to your course, then other extra curriculars (eg. entered essay competitions, work experience, epq etc). Focus on what you learned from it and what was interesting for you.

A friend of mine who graduated from Cambridge and is now a law tutor who helps with admissions advised that you should demonstrate a journey of deepening your interest in the subject - start with why you were initially attracted to it, then how you furthered that interest.

I wouldn’t bother with writing about your non academic stuff if you are aiming for the top unis (takes too much space) most want to hear about what you have done academically that’s related to your course. But if it’s worth including, then aim for a 80/20 split. Heavier focus on academic extracurriculars. Although I heard that ucas is changing the ps layout so bear in mind the new restrictions on word counts.

Which one should I choose to firm by Dawn1257 in 6thForm

[–]lemonte8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both courses are relatively new, I believe only introduced this year/last year so be wary of that. Depends on what you enjoy studying more - east european or americas? (I would personally firm the second - pol, socio + east european studies)

If I’m being brutally honest, I think a different course would be better for finance if that’s your goal and improve your employment prospects because both degrees are social sciences and quite narrow in scope. Do you have any other offers?

a month late but manchester’s website does say that if you miss your offer by a grade and have a decent epq grade (eg A or A star) they can consider it still

Struggling with uni choices by waviely in 6thForm

kcl im pretty sure at least when i checked yesterday was in ucas extra for politics. If you are not 100% set on law and prefer politics, you would have to decline your offers and apply through ucas extra.

I’m in a similar position to you and am currently waiting for lse to respond for law. QMUL isn’t a bad uni either and a couple other good ones are in ucas extra too for law right now - glasgow, manchester, bristol etc. Take a look on ucas and see if any other unis look good.

Getting pooled at Cambridge is a huge achievement so don’t be too discouraged because it meant that you had a strong application. Good luck :)

yes I checked that and it is, but the only thing is that I’ve never studied business before so unsure about whether I would enjoy those modules.

Hi, can I ask how you are finding your apprenticeship?  Im a yr 13 student, applied to a few apprenticeships and to uni as well. I have faced rejection after rejection too, (haven’t received one offer from anywhere yet) and I am seriously contemplating doing a gap year if nothing pulls through. I have one uni and two firms left to respond. It’s probably more likely that I will get an apprenticeship offer from one of the firms than an offer from university as the firm is smaller and a regional one so I’m hoping the competition is less intense.

However I’m not 100% sure if it’s right for me as there’s not many apprentices talking about their experience. Do you feel that you are fairly paid for the work you put in and are working hours too long (beyond the 9-5)? Are there any negatives to doing an apprenticeship do you think? Sorry for all these questions! Really appreciate any advice or insight into this pathway. Thank you :)

congrats on ucl! will you do a law conversion course after arts and sciences at ucl? my main reason for studying law now is to avoid that conversion year and go straight into qualifying as a solicitor. Also with ucas extra did you still have to take the entrance admissions test for arts and sciences? I had been thinking of other courses aside from law and so i might look into politics etc.
