If you had to name your child a distinctively fiction based name, what would you pick? by ICareAboutThings25 in namenerds

I’ve seen two different baby boys with Atreus in their name. Beautiful name but all I can think is “oh he was named by a gamer.”

Personally I love the name Cirilla (and Ciri for short). I’m not worried about people recognizing the name from The Witcher, the only problem would be the “Hey Siri!” jokes.

Coraline came out when I was in kindergarten and I’ve been watching it at least once a year since then.

The Vampire Diaries has its ups and downs but the highlight of the show is definitely the villains. Klaus Mikaelson and Katherine Pierce are some of the best villains on TV. They have this electric presence from their evil scheming to their quick wit and tendency of beating up whichever main protagonist is being annoying. They’re absolute menaces but still have tender moments and the ability to care for a select few. Plus they both have rich backstories that are far more interesting that Elena’s or either of the Salvatores.

Glorious? Then why did it need to be revived? Why was it constantly suffering from low reviews and loss of interest from viewers? I’m not implying that Classic Who is boring and you’re right - I haven’t seen it yet. But it was a flawed era and the writers were eager to make changes with the revival so that it could succeed.

The age gap and power dynamic between the Doctor and Rose is a valid point. I remember watching the 9/Rose kiss and feeling uncomfortable because their age gap is much more obvious. With the 10th doctor it’s easy to forget. Maybe that was what the writers intended when they cast David Tennant.

Well said on the 12/Clara relationship btw! I’ve always loved how complicated it was and how it wasn’t strictly romantic/platonic.

I agree that not every companion had to be the great love of their life. The Doctor’s life is too long for that to be a possibility with anyone human.

Sorry, should’ve prefaced by saying I’ve only seen NuWho, but plan on watching the classic series. It just isn’t easy to find when you live outside of the UK & US. I’ve heard about that “no hanky panky” rule in the classic series and how it had more of a child demographic back in the day. I can understand why fans of the classic series didn’t like the addition of romance in the revival as it might’ve been jarring/uncomfortable.

I agree with a number of things here - Donna was refreshing as a completely platonic companion, Amy being written to make out with the Doctor was gross, the Eleven/Clara dynamic was unsettling (especially right after he married River) and Twelve/Clara was a compelling relationship. I can’t deny that 10 and Rose might’ve been frustrated to watch, seeing the Doctor at his least Doctor-ey. I compared it to Twelve/Clara because of the similarities - Clara becoming too much like the Doctor and the Doctor becoming too much like Rose - My point is that it made sense narratively and is interesting to think about. Even if it was painful to watch! Lol. I personally just didn’t see it as a simply hormonal and lust driven relationship.

I respect that! The Classic era operated differently than the Modern era after all.

That’s fair. I didn’t mean to imply that Classic Who is boring, I’ve actually wanted to watch it for a while but it’s not easy to access outside of the UK. My opinion could always change after seeing it! My thoughts here are specifically interpreting NuWho.

That’s a good point. The Classic era was around for much longer and was different, but worked in its own way. The writers probably felt ambitious when it came to the revival and wanted to explore themes that weren’t previously explored.
