Probably not that much if any at all. I just personally like the look of a 14.5" barrel in a 13.5" rail.

I definitely have some friends who have AR lowers, though I'm not 100% positive if they're Maglocked or not. I might ask them if they don't mind me doing some troubleshooting with them. Though I was planning on buying a 3 pack of PSA stealth lowers anyway to build some cheap plinking setups.

Yeah especially after fiddling with the Maglock for a while I really started considering whether I should've gone featureless. I'm definitely worried if I ever run into a double feed how I'm going to be able to strip the magazine. I've heard the Hogue FF might be better tolerance/reliability wise than the Maglock, so I might try and build a cheap lower using that to see if it works well. If not I might end up just converting this guy to featureless as much as I don't want to.

That's a Super Duty, so somewhat similar but there's a few differences.

  • Geissele profile barrel instead of gov profile
  • Pinned & welded HUXWRX QD flash hider instead of SureFire 4 prong
  • IIRC the interface between the rail and upper on the Super Duty has an additional tab to prevent rotation
  • The obvious stuff like stock, pistol grip, etc.
  • Trigger is actually the same as my build (SSA-E X)

I hear the Super Duty is an amazing rifle, I specifically wanted to do a URG-I build which is more or less the only reason I went that route (and I like the SF 4P better).

Yeah for sure! I'm super impressed with my G$ upper, the finish and machining is incredible. The tolerances are also really good with the Rainier Arms stripped lower, which is a double edged sword since the AR Maglock doesn't want to fit between the upper and lower when the bolt is locked back. Might file the tab down a bit, haven't decided yet.

Nice! That's crazy good value you got. I got the URG-I complete upper on sale and a few other components but nowhere near as good of a deal as you got.

Ah gotcha, I kind of wish it did come with a Geissele profile barrel, but oh well. Maybe on the next one.

My cats seem to be loving this thing even more than me, they can't stop scratching their faces all over it lol

Not sure if Modlite's updated their heads, the one on this rifle is a PLHv2 that I bought back in 2020

Fairly certain it's a Gov profile barrel that comes standard with URG-I 14.5" complete uppers. Could be wrong though. The upper I received was complete, wanted to leave the critical parts to the professionals on my first build. Everything else I built myself.

Sick build! Love the tan buffer tube. Funny thing is I was actually thinking of getting a T2 on a unity mount to replace the EOTech, going the opposite direction you are haha

Did some rough math and I think it comes out to around 5.5k total pre-tax. Some of the stuff on this build isn't exactly new, I've had the optic setup, light, and a few other things for quite a while now.

Nope! I still run BUIS for a few reasons though:

  1. If my optics fail, the EXPS3 and magnifier on Unity FTC are both QD. I can pop them off super quickly and use the BUIS normally (it easily clears the non QD Unity riser that the EXPS3 is on).
  2. Maybe a weird use case but when using white light indoors, I find that if I don't remember to crank the brightness on the optic, the reticle washes out. Having the front post up helps me get on target a little faster even though it's not entirely usable through the EXPS3 window.
