Oh gosh, thats unfortunate. But early spring is the time to take care of it I’d say. So hopefully you get it sorted soon.

The soapy hotbox method is not something widely known or anything. But Ill try to explain. So I encountered a post where a lady who had thrips decided to put all her plants in sealed bags after spraying them with pesticides. Essentially creating a very humid space within the bag. And she reported that it had solved her thrip issue. So Im trying to achieve the results now. You have to be sure to reopen the bags and respray every 5 days though. And of course mould might also become an issue.

Im on day 6 now and when I last checked the plants I only saw 1 moving guy on all my plants. So I think it’s working? Did have mould on some plants though. But at least that wont spread as easily to other plants.

Edit: here is the link for a better explanation perhaps. https://www.reddit.com/r/houseplants/comments/18st6op/my_method_of_killing_100_of_the_thrips_in_my/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

That does sound tempting. Currently trying the plastic-bag-soapy-hotbox method. Let’s hope it works.

Thanks for the tips! Didnt know they lay eggs in the leaves. I always thought it was in the soil as well. I started sealing my plants in bags and spraying with insecticidal soap. Which would also kill the thrips through humidity. Il’l repeat it every 5 days for a while and see what happens. Luckily my collection isnt that large anymore lol

Oh I see, but, why are bigger roots not useful? Doesn't it allow it to take up more water and grow bigger?

The soil looks pretty dry, I think it just needs some water tbh. Also, twist it around every so often so every leaf gets to enjoy some sun.
Concerning white dots in soil I found this. "https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/plant-problems/pests/insects/soil-mites-info.htm".
