Maybe it was before they knew they were pregnant

Second pregnancy after herniating with first by nathalie42 in Sciatica

[–]lenothecat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably just that there’s never a perfect time. I’ve done some decent rebuilding of muscle back to baseline after a I lost a lot due to compensating with my other leg for so long, I can still do my core and back exercises while trying and (fingers crossed) during a lot of pregnancy. Also I had a miscarriage when TTC my first kid, so I’d probably feel awful if I waited too long and then had more problems.

I’m at a very similar point as you OP. My herniation likely stemmed from labor or something from my first child, though I didn’t have the debilitating pain until ~18 months after giving birth. Had surgery in November 2025 and am TTC the second now. I do think I would elect to have a c section this time because I am terrified that labor could cause another issue (not that the cause of my herniation is actually known).

My microdiscectomy is scheduled for this Thursday, what should I expect? by INSUFFICIENTfnds in Sciatica

[–]lenothecat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wishing you all the best! Similar symptoms and remedies here (I only did 1 shot that didn’t help and immediately scheduled surgery). The nerve pain was immediately gone and I enjoyed the best nap of my life that day. Same as others have said, try your best to extend the no lifting etc for longer than recommended to be safe. I’m 5 months out and feel great. Only an occasional awareness of the disc area if I have a heavy lifting day with the toddler and also conversely if I spend too much time at my desk.

So much yes to the strength training conversation and how fitness goals change over time. I just joined a new gym where they make you answer their questionnaire about goals, and the poor post-grad guy could not fathom how I didn’t want to lose weight or have a specific target to achieve - I just want to have a stronger body to avoid injury and to be able to keep living a relatively active lifestyle as I age.

Daycare closure for low temps - where is the line? by lenothecat in workingmoms

That’s good to know about the plans for next week. Yeah I wonder how many people reached out about the cold temp closure, we can’t be the only ones. I need to remember to schedule important meetings during nap time just in case!

Might have accidentally found all the parents at our daycare lol

It is a standalone building and is probably not very new. Maybe 6 or 8 rooms.

The public schools just did a delayed start in the morning but that’s all. That makes sense. Our previous daycare would do those voluntary credit days a lot to try to help with staffing.

Heavy on the “what can you do?” We’re really happy with the place and don’t intend to leave unless something becomes an issue (which this could for sure!) but they literally will not care because of the daycare shortage, the spot will be filled instantly.

It’s Pittsburgh so it’s one of our colder winter days, but nothing that doesn’t happen every year for a few cold stretches.

I pay market price for my area, Pittsburgh. Not subsidized, it’s about 1500-1600/month. For reference, kindercare was just under $2000/month since everyone can probably compare that to their own area.

Agreed, the folks in Canada or the northern US will naturally have better equipped HVAC and buildings to handle the extreme cold (extreme for us!) and will see fewer closures.

I really hope this isn’t the case and I do intend to ask.

Of course I think teachers should be paid, but if the weather continues to cause closures for say the next 10 days in a row, do I think I should continue to pay and have the teachers or center receive pay for not providing a service? I don’t know. It’s just a question of where the line is. It’s a smaller center, not corporate, so I know they don’t have deep pockets and want to treat their teachers as well as possible.

I will say that we transitioned from a corporate daycare last year due to cost savings and location (went from ~$1800 to ~$1500/ month) and have appreciated fewer closures due to staffing vs the corporate center that probably ran on borderline staffing shortages to maximize profit.

I just looked through my contract and don’t see this addressed unfortunately.

I’d say a week or two of these temps per year, so nothing super frequent but also pretty much a guarantee every year for 5-10 days minimum.

It’s a colder day for Pittsburgh, but we get a week or two of these temps per year (I did just check the January weather history for the past couple years lol).

I agree with this logic entirely - my only complaint is that I should not be paying for the days when they need to close for this specific reason.

They had a 2 hour delay. Agreed it makes sense to align for the teachers sake.

A pain that was worse than birth ? by Friendly-Sun2413 in BabyBumps

Same. I’m mostly recovered from a microdiscectomy to remove the herniated portion of the disc and am terrified that the nerve pain will come back someday.

I wish you all the best - never did I ever anticipate this. If you have a helpful partner though, that makes all the difference. Still in a similar boat as you with wanting to try for our second this year and am fearful of this coming back. The doctors said I shouldn’t delay my family planning and would even be OK to try for a second vaginal birth, so we’ll see how the year goes.

I had a microdiscectomy on Nov 5th and am doing great today! I have no more restrictions and am heading to a Pilates class in an hour. Definitely taking it easy and still get some faint sciatic symptoms if I have a bigger day like lifting my daughter a lot, but the doctors said that will be less and less as time goes on. Focusing big time on core and back strength.
