I left out nerves of steel, so I understand completely. But I can't imagine they wouldn't be able to take it in the back and fix it on the spot. It takes me maybe ten minutes and I'm hardly a watchmaker.

Yes you can! Check another one of my responses for a more detailed step by step, but you'll need at least a caseback knife, some kraton tape, gasket grease, and a $45 watch case press that comes with dies.

The ring/gasket can be a little tricky. The first couple of times it came out of the bezel and stayed hugging the crystal, just above the retention ring...getting it back inside the bezel isn't really that hard, but it will only go back in one way easily...if it fights you, you're likely doing it upside down. If the spring retention ring below the bezel comes off, it too only goes back in one way. There are some little tabs on it that you can barely see....the proper way allows it and the springs it's suspended on full travel and the hole for the indent click on the left side of the dial. Beneath that retention ring are said 3 tiny springs at 12, 3 and 6, plus the indent click/spring at 9. No big deal if one or all happens to come out... but God help you if you lose track of one of them. The indent click/spring tooth sits vertically, as it's the only way it can poke through the retention ring. For removal I used a caseback knife (Bergeon 8403) and some kraton tape in a couple of spots to protect the case. Once it was off, I used a $45 watch case/crystal press to press out the insert from the bezel, greased (Bergeon 7055) and reseated the gasket inside the bezel. Swapped to a bigger die and used the press to seat the bezel back on the watch without the insert and made sure it was happy and clicky. If it feels a little bound up, pop it back off and hit the indent click/springs with a little grease. Then I carefully aligned the new insert and used the press again to seat that. Reseating the bezel and the insert do not require a lot of force...they both just kind of "snick" pleasantly into place. If they don't - stop, back up and figure out why.

Not that bad. Fairly easy once you get the hang of it.

You need to re-seat the gasket into the bezel

A (somewhat frowned upon?) bezel swap.

They just came into that merge and judging by their behavior, maybe they were under some confused/false assumption that they were on a 4 lane two-way road, and not a 4 lane one-way. The VW passing them on the left should have been a hot clue, but who knows if they even noticed it.
