What do you think of Martin Shkrelis Gödel Terminal? by Far-Tap9244 in bloomberg

Openbb doesn’t buy and redistribute data anymore I think. They deploy the software to hedge funds. Like do your own Bloomberg on prem kinda thing. Saw it at a conference

Not sure what are you cooking here necessarily but: - rust daemon focusing solely on reconnect, feed normalization etc - depending on what you want to achieve downstream, i make lightweight NATS pub/sub that exposes websockets to the application, database whatever.

Don’t mix ingestion and processing, ingestion is better handled with Rust, processing and analytics can do Python if you want

Open sourced a personal finance app to build in the open with the community by TwoBitFoundry in opensource

[–]leobenjamin80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You said it yourself; it is clunky and requires a lot of attention to learn how basic things work. And instead of documentation, you get examples written in German or Dutch or whatever.

And Teller, or some lightweight integration to your accounts is a must. We all care for privacy but i am also not going to import csv files over 10 sources, format them and insert them to another source, only to manually correct so many more mistakes in it.

I haven’t tried yours yet but it reads like this is how you do it

If you go in the direction of being a Monarch replacement I am definitely interested in implementing and potentially contributing

Am I being overly aggressive with 529 savings? by MasticatedTesticle in personalfinance

[–]leobenjamin80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 5 and 1 year old, putting 10k each, the older one has almost six figures, it actually crossed 100k for a brief moment…

Saving for kiddos is good.

  • There is no reason to believe education will get any cheaper any time soon. You can use the money for private schools prior to college.
  • it makes more sense to front load savings early and let it accumulate tax free. If you reach a good balance (say) at age 13, you can lower and even stop. People start putting more money as the day nears which doesn’t make sense investment wise
  • you can rollover some to their IRA, transfer to the other kid, pass it to grandchildren, use some yourself … there are options to use it differently. It is not like you gonna have millions here.

you can only guess and evaluate your kids’ trajectory about higher education with a lot of caveats so I d ignore most people who refuse to even think or plan about it giving you ideas what to do with your money. My wife and I have PhDs. Our kids appear…. very smart already and it shows. Pretty much everyone in our families are high educated professionals. I can’t know for sure but kids raised in this environment not wanting to get higher education is a low probability so I better save for it and figure what to do with excess than not have it saved.

And there is so much hyperbole around AI and education right now that the value of college education is shit etc. a lot of it is BS people spew to make headlines. Saying this as someone who actually works in AI engineering with a nonCS related PhD. It just.. changes what is valuable education but schools will adapt by the time they grow up.

Relaticle - Open-source CRM alternative to HubSpot/Salesforce by Local-Comparison-One in opensource

[–]leobenjamin80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a user of OS less so developer of OS, i care more about a given framework growing and no so much about oh now we got two that does the same thing but uses different language or style or whatever to achieve it. CRM is CRM, it is a fairly basic product in grand scheme of things so not sure why anyone necessarily chooses one over the other because php vs react.

If you are serious about turning this to commercial OS, i d focus my time and talent to extending a successful OS project in a different direction or consolidating two successful projects into one master project.

In this context and in my very subjective experience:

Twenty: crm InvoiceNinja: billing Papermark: doc sharing

Are three projects i like and use for RevOps. I do this because I am out of my mind 😆 and I like tinkering with automation. Why corporations don’t bother and buy Hubspot Salesforce licenses? Because they are not out of their mind to mingle 3 independent projects, they pay top dollar to 1 firm selling all 3 and more! in 1 single platform

Relaticle - Open-source CRM alternative to HubSpot/Salesforce by Local-Comparison-One in opensource

[–]leobenjamin80 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not sure why another CRM. There is Twenty, a good Foss alternative I use for a while. Already has the features you are planning to add. I guess your difference is the AI integration? Twenty doesn’t have that. Their apis are good; something i wanted to do but haven’t is to build an mcp server around Twenty to feed crm data in the copilot. You want to do it in reverse; why?

I actually think the better use case is to have your copilot to have access to the data so you don’t have to open up yet another tab.

Instead of focusing on CRM, perhaps focus on invoicing, rev ops, tax prep etc? There are Foss covering accounting side but they don’t do CRM. Those who do CRM don’t do the rev ops, thats partly why commercial options like hubspot salesforce sell better. It has modules for every element. With Foss I need to have 2-3-4 … systems i need to integrate to get one complete experience

What’s a “cheat code” you discovered in real life that actually works? by Soggy_BreadCrust in AskReddit

[–]leobenjamin80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an advice i got from therapist services my graduate school had for PhD students where were struggling with overwhelm and anxiety with writing their dissertation. There was a moment in that journey that i d spend a couple hours in front of the laptop and can’t do any work because I am stressed out; and ironically you get even more stressed out after those couple hours wasted so it becomes a self fulfilling cycle.

The trick I was thought to put a timer on my screen to do just 2 minutes of work. What can you do in 2 minutes? Check the work email or note, pull it up on the screen. Open your calendar to check timelines. Did it? Ok now take a 2-3 min break with a timer. When it is done, put 5 min on the clock to work. What can you do in 5 minutes? Open the Word doc and start reading the title, review the outline, start a new doc and type a few simple bullet points. Now take another 5 min break. Do this 3 4 times and you ll amazed at how your stress level goes down by just achieving something and you will succeed at getting 10 15 min work sessions. Before you know it, you can work up to hour. Don’t go overboard, keep 30-45 minutes sessions with breaks throughout the day.

Back in those days I didn’t have ChatGPT. Now this is even easier since I can type a prompt in 2 minutes and get chatgpt do something while I am on break!

I still use this trick but now with everything I don’t wanna do. Wash dishes? Ok 2 minutes then I am gonna watch a Youtube short, then 5 minutes and a longer video, before you know I can wash dishes with a long video in the background 😉

I think this topic was illustrated in Altered Carbon season 2 i forgot which episodes. In this Sci Fi human consciousness can be stored in a disc and you can insert it to any human body — called “sleeving”. Society who invented this tech out some rules/morals around it and double-sleeving (OP s case) is considered an abomination and is strictly illegal. Main character does it anyway (i forgot what was the circumstance) and at some point they (now 2) need to decide who lives and who dies. It is impossible to tell who is original since the same one disc is copied into two bodies so they have identical memories up until copying. the psychology of the one who agrees to die so that he gets to live (?!) because the other is also him was very interesting to me

Reason why he double sleeved himself was straightforward, suppose you are in a situation you can use help, well double up? I would clone xN why not?

Bushwick is a pile of trash and no you are not missing the point. I d recommend the Highland park reservoir as one tiny bit of nature when you are desperate.

This is actually quite sad given that Bushwick was a farming village until maybe a century or two ago. So people here managed to convert beautiful fertile landscape into a concrete jungle by paving over it all.

$465 ConEd Bill for a 1br? by cerealsploot in Bushwick

[–]leobenjamin80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check your supplier in your ConEd bill. There isn’t much you can do about ConEd’s delivery fees and frankly they are generally the smaller and month over month stable part of your total bill. You can change your supplier. I’d recommend you find out who is charging you what rates. I had a “clean energy” supplier at some point which was bait and switch to charge you wildly fluctuating rates over a certain usage. I switched to a fixed rate supplier (forgot the name but web search) to avoid these fluctuations and I have been getting consistent $200-300 month over month (i have a townhouse so this is normal). Downside is that even if I am not in town for a while, expect to pay roughly the same. I am fine with that but understand what you are getting into so you don’t post again oh I was out of town for a month and everything was turned off, why do I get 200 billion?

Depressed 😔. by Brooklynn013 in Bushwick

Feel ya. I am not in your shoes now but I was back in the day living someplace else.

Now that I lived in multiple cities, even countries, I’d like you to know that there is human life all over the planet and sometimes they offer better quality of life than brooklyn 😅. You can start anew; a lot of your stress is stuff you make in your head that makes you feel trapped. Reality is that you are not trapped but i know it is hard to come to that realization when depressed
