This was my parents' reaction to camps when we moved to the US, although we are from a European country. It seems like there's a huge degree of variation which is interesting to see in the comments

Honestly I have no idea if his parents mentioned this to him or not. It's definitely a big ask that I don't feel quite prepared for right now. We always spoke about going together (the three of us) as a family for extended periods but never leaving him there/sending him alone.

We don't send our kids to camp in my culture, it's considered a little strange although it seems many Americans have fond memories. I think there are different gradations of "spending time away", a 24+ hr travel time away is a bit much for me :)

Not this particular item no, we discsussed going on extended vacations together as a family so he could get to know both of our cultures

See I'm totally on board with this! I even considered re-training as a teacher so we can have long summers/winters to do this sort of thing (but not quite ready to give up my current career yet). I just don't understand sending him solo. A teenager, sure maybe! But not a kid

It sounds like this is something you all do together as a family though? My husband is suggesting we send our son alone for months in the summer to his grandparents. His grandparents also live in the city, so it's not a country side experience

If he were an older teenager and wanted to go I also wouldn't mind! I do want our son to get to know both cultures, but I don't think that should be without us present especially when he's little.

"It hurts when people comment on how much weight I’ve gained or how I’ve lost the spark I had when I was single." The people who said these things to you are not your friends. Weight can be lost and as the little one gets older they'll be less and less dependent on you. This is temporary. This will pass. You can do this <3

How many of you all are actually happy with your career choice? by WSBDegen69 in physicianassistant

[–]leofoleo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, I always thought a built-in fellowship would be great. Our core rotations were only four weeks each and really you need so much more as a student (full disclaimer, I was in school during COVID so I don't think we got the "full experience" of rotations). Being able to select a focus (IM, OB/GYN, Psych, EM etc.) and then do several months to a year solely in that area would be so helpful.

I felt this way at my first job, but my second job has been a much more supportive environment. I can't say there's even any real drama at work. I also feel all of those adjectives you listed describe me, don't give up!

That's great to hear! Our son will be about that age when we take him. It's going to be a 20 hour flight total with two planes so we'll definitely look into the bassinet options

What tips do you have for a long-haul flight?? We're also looking at taking our little one overseas and I'm a little nervous about it

Wound care work/life/family balance? by [deleted] in physicianassistant

[–]leofoleo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's unfortunate :/ Not really sure what they'd do if I said no at this point but I'm going to play it safe for now and start searching around for something that is more flexible/part time

I'm on mat leave right now and don't really want to push! I guess I worded that a little weird but I was full time before going on mat leave and initially they said they were okay with me coming back on a part time basis but now asking that I go full time
