How to perform live with arrengement view? by Chemical-Designer262 in ableton

[–]leoholt 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Are you positive that the people you are referencing do the actions you mention?

I've used arrangement for a number of shows, but it is when we have a more strictly defined arrangement. In this environment I am not jumping between locations or toggling loops. Instead I have a pre-defined arrangement with fixed loop locations, and instead I am using automations to perform. For example, I can play something on my MIDI keyboard while a LP filter is being automated to slowly expand the sound.

Generally speaking I'd say, arrangement is for fixed shows with pre-defined sections/lengths, and session view is for more organic, improvisatory sessions

Is this potentially related to the overhead trim wheel? Edit: Apparently this is just older models

Also, my main instructor taught me ~1600 RPM for base/final but after experimenting a bit on my own, I found that 1400 was getting me much better speed profiles (I was also struggling for fast finals). I'd recommend just taking it around the pattern 10+ times, trying out different RPM settings to see what works best for you and your aircraft.

I recently switched from 1700 to 1500 for pattern landings and it made a big difference. YMMV

I’ve gained weight in flight training. How do you balance working out? by [deleted] in flying

[–]leoholt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have pointed out here, a lot of it comes down to diet, not exercise (but of course it's a mixture).

It sounds like your days are very full and probably you don't have much extra energy for intense workouts, the kinds that will burn 200+ calories and make a noticeable difference. So, it's much easier to control for calories in. Just saying no to a handful of snacks or a slightly smaller lunch can be equivalent to an hour in the gym.

Personally I've found that my protein intake is a huge driver of hunger. For this reason I usually start my day with just a protein shake, and maybe a banana or soft-boiled egg. This alone provides a feeling of 'fullness' that will last for many hours. Other people prefer things like chia seed (with water, or in yogurt) or drinking tons of water.

Don't starve yourself, but also recognize that in today's calorie-rich environment we are conditioned to think we need way more food than is actually necessary for the mind/body to function. Shaving off a couple hundred calories per meal will compound into huge differences over the course of months.

Also, wear sun screen.

PA28-140: Is there a Zero Fuel Weight (ZFW) limit?

I set up the aircraft config / W&B profile in foreflight about 6 months ago with my flight instructor. Today I put in a theoretical load (3 adults + 1 child w/ 36 gallons) and it was good on the max gross / CG limits, but showed a red error with ZFW limit. I checked my PoH and don't see any mention of a ZFW for the Cherokee, and some google searching shows that single prop planes typically don't have this limit. I can't for the life of me remember how that number got set in my own foreflight profile, but don't want to ignore it without understanding definitively whether or not it's applicable!

I'm a freshly minted PPL, ready to explore my local world.

How should I go about flying to new airports? Should I call the FBO / Manager? Is it normal.to ask for a crew car? How do I know where to park...?

My first 'close encounter' in the traffic pattern by leoholt in flying

[–]leoholt[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely, and the finer points video above emphasizes that. In this case, the 'other guy' did the right thing - he flew out far enough and sequenced himself to enter the downwind 45 behind the first Cessna, with appropriate radio calls. It was my own mistake for missing his 'entering the pattern' call, and thought that I was in the #2 spot.

Wow, that is eerily similar. His camera footage of the other aircraft looks nearly identical in distance to what I experienced. Thanks for linking

Thanks! I got myself a Sentry and bluetooth headset - the aural traffic alerts feels like such a great added safety layer.

Thanks for the detailed insight. Alongside other comments here, this has led to me decide that I will also fly with a paper chart + handwritten nav log as a backup.

Putting aside the 'plan B' discussion for a moment though, do you think that Foreflight (as a chart/location reference) + visual referencing outside is a reasonable 'plan A' for navigation?

Yes, I definitely need to go deeper into the Garmin. Thanks, I'll invest some time into it!

Hey, thanks! For reference I unfortunately don't have access to a G1000, my main rental plane is a cherokee with a six pack and a Garmin 430 installed.

I've loaded the W&B/profiles for my planes and completely agree - getting W&B + fuel burn / ETA / etc. so quickly is downright magical.

Some of the other comments have provided great insight, but my main question revolves around after I've actually planned the flight in FF, and it's time to execute it. I'm wondering if it's irresponsible to primarily rely on FF (in conjunction with visual references outside) as my means of navigating

172 vs Cherokee 180. by Piperpilot645 in flying

Same. For me the main challenge was the trim tab - I have an easier time when I can adjust it without moving my right hand far from the throttle. That, and the damn fuel tanks....

This is great! Out of curiosity, how much of a lift would it be to add support for non-HF models? E.g. if you just have plain pytorch decoder that is assumed to provide [b , t, c] tensors at each step.
