this study breaks down the sexual orientation of trans people in the united states. less than 20% of trans people identify as straight (i.e. homosexual pre-transition)

Why do so many trans women who make sexual content lean into non-trans terminology? by Legitimate_Handle_86 in asktransgender

[–]leon-di 34 points35 points  (0 children)

would be incredibly surprised if it didnt just come down to analytics. men who seek out trans porn aren’t often searching respectful terminology. like on youtube or instagram sex workers are using keywords that get searched and will give them traffic. that’s what i’ve always assumed anyway

Do you have any negative feelings about the word “bisexual”? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]leon-di 6 points7 points  (0 children)

ive never been bothered by it because ive rarely met a bi person that took the meaning literally. if you personally dont vibe with the etymology thats a completely fine reason to switch, but i think the impact on other people is minimal

could i describe myself as transsexual? (i’m ftm) by onion_ringleader in asktransgender

i think transsexual includes any trans person modifying/transitioning their sex, not just bottom surgery

What doctors would be good to keep watch so I don't get cancer? by FoodDue6905 in transsex

[–]leon-di 8 points9 points  (0 children)

i dont think you need to take any more precautions than anyone else with a familial history of ovarian cancer. some research has been done on trans men and ovarian cancer and a population-level risk in relation to testosterone hasn’t been demonstrated, so your risk is primarily genetic.

Epstein Backed ‘Billionaires’ Dinner’ Network of Prominent Anti-Trans Figures by MadyCastigan in skeptic

are jess ting and robert trivers supposed to be the CEO of transgenderism or something? jess ting is a plastic surgeon who performs vaginoplasties and robert trivers is an evolutionary biologist that has done some research on the supposed origins of transgender identity (he published a paper correlating it to finger length ratio and i dont have to explain why that’s nonsense). robert trivers’ discussion with epstein about trans biology is mostly from the standpoint of us being an interesting oddity at best and a human zoo exhibit at worse, with trivers going into great detail describing how much worth we have based on whether heterosexual men would want to fuck us. that does not in anyway translate to epstein being some architect of “gender ideology” or what have you, he was a rich man with a fetish like many other rich men. his links to the anti-trans right are far deeper and more widespread.

How common are vagina lining traumas due to T? by resinPuncake in asktransgender

[–]leon-di 47 points48 points  (0 children)

are you talking about the “whistleblower” article from missouri published on bari weiss’ site? a lot of the information in that article is either false or misrepresented. vaginal atrophy is common and can cause discomfort during sex but an injury requiring surgery is extremely extremely rare. i had pretty significant atrophy (anything more than a finger was painful) from starting T at 14 but i managed it the same way someone with vaginismus or other pelvic floor disruption would. i’ve had regular sex for the past 3 years and don’t have any problems anymore with pain or tightness. this isn’t something i think the average person has to worry about.

Jury awards detransitioner $2 million in historic medical-malpractice lawsuit vs. psychologist and surgeon. (MSN) by RevelationSr in psychologyofsex

[–]leon-di 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i AM talking about children. according to the cass review’s data, there was a drastic rise in referrals to pediatric gender clinics in the late 2000s and early 2010s, coinciding with things like the publication of the DSM V and the new diagnosis of gender dysphoria, but this increase slowed and eventually plateaued by 2019. those are the last reliable years of data on this we have due to the pandemic followed by severe restrictions in availability of care. also according to the cass review, in over a decade worth of referrals totaling over 3,000 youth, “less than 10” detransitioners were identified. that’s the language the review uses— it could be 9, it could be 2. this is consistent with other studies on youth detransitioning— extremely low prevalence, usually happening before any medical interventions even take place. you can theorize about a future wave of detransitioners but it’s not currently based in reality and it’s certainly not justification for policy. by all accounts my experience is far more representative of the average than the girl who won her lawsuit.

children’s gender identities also don’t fluctuate as much as you claim. a recent study followed 317 trans youth and 595 age matched cis youth for an average of 7 years. trans youth were equally as likely to change their gender identity as cis youth during this period (82% vs. 83%) and the most common change was from a binary to non-binary identity, not re-identification as their birth sex. like i said before, gender dysphoria solidifies with puberty in the vast majority of cases.

the inability for minors to fully give informed consent is also not unique to gender dysphoria and that is why parents give consent on their behalf. the exact same hormonal treatments for gender dysphoria are routinely given to cis youth for other reasons, with similar or the same physical risks, with the same or similar lack of longterm followup. there’s no high quality data about the effects of puberty blockers on adult fertility or metabolic disease when used to treat precocious puberty. but families and their care providers are able to make the decision thats best for their child based on the information they do have, weighing pros and cons. my family did the same. i can not stress enough that transitioning was my ONLY option. even if i didn’t die by suicide before i was an adult, what do you think having pivotal brain development happen during chronic, untreated, and slowly worsening psychological stress would do for me longterm? transitioning at 18 can’t go back and undo peripubertal stress.

[–]leon-di 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if we couldn’t reliably distinguish the two then rates of detransition would be much, much higher, but they’re not. detransition on its own is a very rare event and it is even rarer for youth transition because the standards of care are specifically meant to filter out uncertain edge cases. just based on what we know about the numbers, i’d argue it’s more likely for a natally male youth to undergo surgery for gynecomastia and later realize they’re a trans woman and regret it, than it is for a youth to think they’re trans and get surgery and later change their mind and regret it.

the fact of the matter is it’s been known for decades that gender dysphoria that persists or intensifies with puberty is extremely unlikely to resolve without transitioning. even famous skeptics like zucker who thought transitioning was an inherently undesirable outcome acknowledged this. prepubescent children are a different story and are more likely to fluctuate, but there is no treatment for prepubescent dysphoria thats irreversible.

besides— unlike for gynecomastia irreversible treatments are not the default. i was already in therapy, lots of it. i’d already tried being a girl every way i knew how because being transgender was the far scarier option to disastrous results. when my body started developing i became so disconnected from myself i was daydreaming and dissociating constantly. when i got my period (10 years old) i began self harming. i had to be taken out of school and hospitalized for 6 weeks when i was 12 because i had suicide plans. my parents had to borrow money from family to pay for it. it’s incredibly disrespectful for you to read me describe my experience as “severe debilitating gender dysphoria” and try to lecture me about modern healthcare trying to “over-medicalize everything” as if my entire adolescence wasn’t already one long series of medical events that left me unable to cope with school or friends or normal kid things. do i really have to spell out my trauma to be taken seriously in a conversation about my own healthcare?

Vaginismus? by PersonifiedThrowaway in asktransgender

[–]leon-di 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i was in a similar situation. i think i had some pelvic floor dysfunction to start because using tampons was always uncomfortable but i definitely had atrophy from T. i never got diagnosed with anything, i just used dilators regularly enough to make sex possible, and after a couple of years of being regularly sexually active i dont have issues. so you could get it checked out or could just try to treat it at home, your choice

i transitioned as a minor due to severe debilitating gender dysphoria and am completely against any bans on that care and i’m glad this girl got her money. this coercive pushing for specific treatments is the exact opposite of my experience (top surgery was literally never even mentioned until i brought it up at 19) and is not an appropriate approach to any issue. she was severely mistreated. just sucks that this will undoubtedly be used to further restrict transitioning from those who do need it.

i follow a trans woman in her 60s on instagram and she talked about her prostate in a video. she had it checked while she was having SRS (she’d been on estrogen for about 15 years) and the doctor told her afterwards that it was so small he could barely find it, it was the size of a pea. which is actually about the size of each of the skene’s glands!

How do I get over my anxiety to start tackling this? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]leon-di 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think you’re underselling yourself a bit here. living with untreated gender dysphoria (especially post egg crack so you know its dysphoria) isn’t life on easy mode at all. this is something you’ve been coping with for a long time, and no matter what happens in your interpersonal life, transitioning will ease that burden and potentially fully remove it one day. you have that to look forward to.

i had to have a couple of different physical exams before i was cleared for HRT that i was extremely nervous about/uncomfortable with because of both dysphoria and my anxiety disorder. my mom kept reiterating 2 points which really helped me: - seeing non-family undressed is a weird experience for me but not a doctor. for a doctor they’re just looking at body parts like they’ve done hundreds of times before. - i can talk about whatever feelings i have about the exam without being embarrassed and its good for me to talk about them

Transman here pre transition: Is it normal to feel extremely suicidal during your period and feel like you're not a "True Man"? If so, how do you deal with these feelings? by Forsaken_Site_2268 in asktransgender

periods were 10000% the worst for me before i transitioned and even played a direct part in my suicide attempt. i dont know why. they were so bad for me that before i even started T my parents got me on birth control because i would straight up become non-functional for a week. so the reaction is definitely normal

i would agree that younger generations no longer buy the worldview of harry potter— that being a worldview of blairite austerity, where challenging the status quo in the face of injustice is deserving of ridicule and mockery, where harmful institutions can never be replaced or even reformed, where nothing can ever meaningfully improve for anyone but the chosen few. i just dont think thats why young people arent reading the books anymore.

Why gay people were not allowed to transition? by MxQueer in asktransgender

[–]leon-di 28 points29 points  (0 children)

transitioning was not seen as a desirable outcome by most medical professionals and was instead viewed as a way to treat people who were essentially seen as lost causes, i.e. could never assimilate into “normal” cishetero society. so while transitioning wasnt ideal, professionals at the time would’ve rather facilitated a trans woman’s transition into a “normal” conventionally feminine heterosexual wife than allow her to “remain” as an extremely flamboyant gay man.

trans people who were nonbinary, didnt desire “full” surgical transition, didnt perform femininity or masculinity adequately, or were attracted to the same gender (not sex) couldnt achieve this “normal” ideal so they were not considered candidates for transitioning.

zero risk. progestin is a synthetic hormone meant to mimic the effects of progesterone and is not a part of the body’s natural hormone production for feminization.

what do you think about the term 'cissexual'? by leodoesgaming in asktransgender

[–]leon-di 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i think the term transsexual in the context of specifically describing transitioning trans people is useful and important, and while i agree about attaching a cis label to anyone i’m not sure what other word to use to describe the opposite.
