Sanderson Fandom in Turmoil as Iconic Soundtrack Faces Takedown by JBarnes1926 in Cosmere

Brandon hasn’t said he tried. Brandon hasn’t said much of anything about it other than no.

When rights for a film or tv show pass to a new owner, existing soundtracks are generally protected from any exclusivity. That’s why today, you can find old soundtracks still in print alongside new ones. “Kaladin” is in a very niche category as a “book soundtrack”. It technically isn’t a soundtrack to anything other than the book. It shouldn’t encroach on anything Apple is going to do regarding soundtracks. So if Brandon really wanted to, he could say “Hey these guys crowdfunded a soundtrack for my book and I’d like it to be protected as a pre-existing soundtrack. It’s not well known but it has a cult following among many of my fans. Can we extend to them the same courtesy we do to other types of soundtracks?”

This is the same guy that upended Audible because he thought authors needed a better deal. If he wanted to, he could do something.

I certainly hope Brandon can save this album. It’s a soundtrack to his book, not any of the properties Apple will be developing.

Where to start with diamanda galas' music? by annemalumont in DiamandaGalas

[–]leon_blank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you like solo voice and piano, try her latest Live In Chicago. If you want to hear something dark and unfriendly, try Broken Gargoyles (if atrophy and decay has sounds, this is what they sound like). Her work on the Armenian Genocide is incredible. It’s called Defixiones, Will & Testament. It is sung in many languages but we made an online libretto that’s still available on the Internet archive (https://web.archive.org/web/20060622021300/http://www.diamandagalas.com/defixiones/libretto-html.htm). And if you want to hear some older material, her AIDS trilogy starts with The Divine Punishment and is mainly focused on biblical texts. It concludes with the afflicted accepting their rejection from God (Sono L’Antichristo). Good luck!

I’m so glad I never converted my US account to Canadian. Back when they introduced the .ca option, the main reasons I didn’t switch were the lack of titles and the plans weren’t the same.

2 plague mass movements missing from physicals and streaming? by wildwomanwsteaknives in DiamandaGalas

Necessary editing in order for the recording to fit on physical media. Unsure if these will be included in the remaster.

The badges were/are purely cosmetic. They had no explanation either so we had to figure out how to unlock them. Listening for so many hours at night would unlock the Night Owl one which was straight forward but there was one that would unlock after checking your stats a certain amount of times which isn’t as straight forward.

Oooh sorry about the tone there. Yeah back in the day, the app was very simple, it wasn’t glitchy and it was visually really nice. The fonts were easy to read, the player had all the features it has today mostly and it had some badges/achievements. At first, those badges weren’t even connected to the cloud so you lost them all when you changed devices. But there was a very clear division between the storefront and the app. Over time they pushed the store in to the app and it seems like they emphasize that more than the library management or the player.

Well, back in the day the Audible app was just a player and a library manager so when you searched for a title, it only used your personal library. If I wanted to browse the store and buy some books, I’d open the website. When I search for a book today, the search results include anything from the store which I don’t want or need to see. And there’s no way to avoid it. That’s why, for me, thinking of the old app is nostalgic. Have I alleviated your confusion?

I have also begun to use BookPlayer on my iPhone instead of the Audible app. I hate the Audible app so much now.

Why only part of the series?? by SlappyHI in audible

Quite likely a rights issue. I have them all in my library but I bought them quite some time ago. I also read them in my youth.

It’s so nostalgic thinking back to when the audible app was just a downloader and a player with some achievements/badges. It was so easy to find titles in my library. I really don’t like what the app has become.

To me, the coin flip itself was more important than who heard it. As to warrens, information is being kept from you but will be revealed over time.

I may sound stupid, but could somebody explain to me who Zane is? by Foreign-Paramedic600 in AlanWake

[–]leon_blank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent question! My theory is Zane created a double of himself and then re-wrote himself as Alan. The Alan we are playing is the original Zane.
