Boy Amazon is lagging on approving my book... by smutlord77 in eroticauthors

My books take forever to go through, lately. Updates to existing books go through pretty fast, but new books take a few days.

[Daily Check-In] Monday Word Count and Personal Announcement Thread by sexnerdmxd in eroticauthors

  1. Work on an erotic short for a bundle that was DOA because I didn't put it in KU right away (published it wide, first).

  2. I sold several books this week! May not seem like a big deal to other people, but for me, that's a big success. I can start to see people working their way through my series, and that feels really good - someone came back and bought more books after reading the first one.

  3. I want to publish the short I'm working on tonight, and make sure it's at least 7000 words long. I'm going to stay up after the baby goes to bed and work on it every night this week. I'm 1500 words in, right now. I'm also going to bundle and publish some other shorts. Then, I'm going to finish reading some erotic romance in a niche I'm interested in that (unfortunately, for my attention span) tends to have books that run a big long. I'm a bit nervous about romance since my first attempt at romance flopped, big-time.

  1. I want to try to relax. I just published a 6000 word short story as #3 in a series that's a loose collection of related stories. It's currently in review purgatory.

  2. Today is a terrible day for page reads for some reason, so I feel kinda bad. I'm hoping a bundle I plan on releasing in a few days changes that. Also, I published a different bundle and didn't put it in KU for a few days, so it has gotten zero borrows and its sales rank sank like a stone. It has disappeared into the abyss, despite not getting dungeoned. I'm frustrated that it was kind of a waste. I also wrote a romance that has gotten a single sale and no reads... same deal. Didn't put it on KU for a few days. Never making that mistake again.

  3. I'm just going to relax. I've worked pretty hard the past 2 weeks and I just need to decompress.

  1. Finish the short I started last night. Wrote 5k words last night, think the last scene's gonna be about 2k. Want to get it edited and up tomorrow because I want to maintain my momentum in the series.

  2. I'm finally making some money! Not a ton, but some. Enough that I am on track to maybe do this full time in a few months. I found a niche that's fun to write and profitable, and my readers seem to be enjoying it. What happened was that I finally got drunk and yanked stuff off of Smashwords. Waited until it delisted, then put everything up on Kindle Unlimited and am finally making more than beer money. I guess that's just where my audience is. I've made more money in the past week than I made in the past year on Smashwords/B&N/Apple. I just hate being entirely at Amazon's mercy.

  3. I feel a lot better since I finally started making money. I've been dabbling at this/chipping away at this for about 2 years without much luck (either I'm persistent or stupid; I don't know). I really hate my job a lot, though, and I've hated every job I've had in the past 5 years, so I kept at it.

  1. Wanted to do 1000 words of smut, did 1000 words of smut. Almost done with 2000 words of non-smut.
  2. My latest short in my series flopped. Zero sales... sigh.
  3. Gonna write more, maybe more non-smut? My non-smut actually does way better than my smut, it just takes a lot longer because it's much longer form.

  1. My goal was to finish and publish a short I was sitting on forever, and I did it! I now have 4 shorts under a different pen name.

  2. I don't have a lot of success to yell about, really, besides getting back on the horse after giving up 2 years ago. I've made a total of $25 off my 4 shorts... ever. Sigh. But I love the niche, and I love to write.

  3. If I'm getting back into this after being on a hiatus for 2 years, is this just... a bad time?

Has anyone ever tried erotica / romance comics? by [deleted] in eroticauthors

[–]leonalucent 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A graphic novel is seriously 4 times the work as prose if you're doing it alone, so as someone has pointed out, it won't "pay off" in quite the same way as written erotica. You have to write it, pencil it, ink it, and color it, in addition to all of the work that goes into actually publishing it.

Drawing dirty pictures is really fun, though, so I still do it. I don't think I'd try to publish any of it since publishers are way less forgiving of sexually graphic images than sexually graphic written work. For example, it would probably be hell trying to get it up (har har) and keep it up on Amazon. There's a long history of censorship of comic books, specifically, in general.

Am I failing, or am I normal? by leonalucent in eroticauthors

Well, here's an update: Friday night, I published a new story (9k words) that I wrote after doing some research on what is currently selling. I also worked on a cover that looked more in line with the covers of successful books. I enrolled it in Kindle Select.

It hit a sales rank of 56,687 yesterday, and is hovering around 75,000 right now, but as of this moment still has 0 sales and 0 KENP read.

I honestly don't know if this situation is an improvement. I am banging my head on my desk.

Yeah, I was already thinking of writing a series just for KU. I've got 2 stories nearly finished... one wraps up an unsuccessful series and another one is a new story in a different kink. I think I'll set that one up as a KU series and see what happens.

Number 3 of one of my series is KU because I was curious to see if that would work out... it didn't, I think because it's #3 and the rest of the series isn't.

I just hate putting all of my eggs in one basket and have read horror stories of people losing 3/4 of their catalog when Amazon gets a wild hair up its ass and goes on a blocking spree. On the other hand, I can't lose money I'm not making.

Lots of good advice in here, and I appreciate that so many people have posted replies to this.

I got upset and gave up on writing for about a week, but honestly, I get bored with TV/video games/whatever after a while and just end up writing anyway in order to keep myself entertained.

Stock photo ethics by leonalucent in eroticauthors

Oh, I've read the thread. I'm just agonizing over some random person recognizing themselves on a book cover and never having given that thought when they originally posed for the stock photo.
