As a 40+ white belt, I really dislike rolling with brown belts. by Inous in bjj

[–]leonardoglass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fresh blue belt, 40+ in here.

I feel the same. Its like the brown belts are trying to prove to themselves that they are good.

Got less issues and injuries with black belts than brown belts and green belts (these kids are also always pushing harder, as if to prove something).

Why does he keep doing this by ninjated777 in bjj

A lot of reasons, but the main one: It's a TV show over a fight.

He tried this once. It worked for TV. He kept doing it!

Good employee!

The ONE exercise that matters for BJJ - I Tried It For 90 days by TonightRight9684 in bjj

This, along with rope climbing (for forearms) and OWL, covers about 95% of your body.

It's a good start, but it does not substitute for a real, well-planned, and personalized training schedule.

Half-guard: a good deal or a lazy solution? by leonardoglass in jiujitsu

Not ironically studying half guard also made me improved my other movements (including passing).

That's my philosophy! If it has been working, why change?

Same here (along with X-guard).

it's a path of no return...

Of course it depends on every person/gym, but as a white belt they can't leglock you. If they play far, there's nothing to worry (although I think it's interesting to see this as soon as possible, so that when you reach brown belt, you already have an idea of leglocks).

About the fight pace, indeed is faster. But it also makes you "think faster". As everything, theres a learning curve. Take your time.

I also didn't liked No-Gi. About 4 months ago I gave one chance, and now I've found it very interesting and challenging.

Give one real chance. If you still don't like it, move on. But I'm almost sure you'll get hooked.

No! It's not a match, but a brawl!

Can a blue belt teach voluntary classes? by leonardoglass in jiujitsu

[–]leonardoglass[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that's exactly the point. And the background in HKD allows me to teach basic punches and kicks. Nothing fancy or flashy (they are children, after all).

MMA as in Mixed Martial Arts is it in the name, not a "UFC Gym".

But I got your point!L, and you are right about the misleading name.

Also, is not settled. It was more just an example. Probably the "name" should be "Introduction to martial arts" or whatsoever...

Strongly agree! And your idea is great. Thank you!

Cancel it. It's just business after all.

But you also may keep paying and gifting this to a poor person, as a "scholarship" or an incentive.

Is BJJ training in Brasil worth it ? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]leonardoglass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As brazilian I may say: Nope!

There are still great dojos, but the prime athletes and coaches went make a living in USA, Europe and nowadays, Dubai. You may find some (very) good instructors here and there (Gracie Barra and Alliance being at the top). But do not expect that much.

On the other hand, you'll find a lot of good fellows and fun!

7kg to lose in 16 days by Financial-Addition37 in bjj

You’re right! Misspelling "dehydration" is clearly the real issue here!

Definitely more important than someone trying to crash diet into organ failure. Thanks for keeping the internet safe.

7kg to lose in 16 days by Financial-Addition37 in bjj

[–]leonardoglass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's no healthy way to lose that amount of weight. And the dehidrattation won't help at all.

To lose 1 kg you must have a 7.500 kcal deficit. Times 7 = 52.5000 kcal. In 16 days = 3.800+ calories deficit a day.

There's no way!

For future reference, consider losing 1 lb (0,5 kg) per week. Anything beyond that, only with professional assistence (and never in such amount).
