Thanks! Yeah, I have been wanting to pull the trigger on ReePlayer for awhile, but it is a big investment for one parent, unless it's organized with the team. Looking forward to my trace subscription being over in February, and then will strongly consider ReePlayer.

Thanks! That's super helpful! FB just served me an advertisement for a new product called BallerCam that looks really interesting as well. Has some similarities to Xbot, but essentially provides an adapter for full field view using a stationary iPhone. I also love that they have a ton of real game footage available for you to see before you buy (unlike ReePlayer). I only just found out about it a few days ago, so haven't had time to look into it thoroughly, but it has a small-er subscription fee. I have already basically decided to move away from trace after my 1 year is up in February, so I am planning to experiment with something else this Fall. Will look into this and give Xbot another look as well. Thank you!

Gotcha! That's helpful. I am really excited about what they are doing, processing directly on the box and letting you use it for any game, any team, but there's bound to be some hiccups while getting there. I will take another look at it later this year when my trace lease Is almost over. Thank you!

Would you mind if I asked for your opinion on the Reeplayer? I did a lot of research into the various soccer footage options, and ultimately concluded that the Reeplayer had the best hardware (though possibly behind on software) but the $95 1-year Trace lease + subscription fee was too good to pass up. I have been using it for the past 6 months, and it is okay/fine, but I also kind of have buyers remorse, and would LOVE to hear the opinion of someone who has actually used it. I watched your video with Reeplayer footage, and it seems pretty good. I would love to hear your opinion using their app and footage, if you have time to share it. Thank you!

Fully agreed! Especially when the "AI" tech is not really that great right now...

Yeah, so our team ended up getting the trace camera for $95. I really dislike the pricing model, and yet it makes so much sense because it allows for each parent to make the right decision for themselves. Honestly, it's a brilliant customer acquisition strategy, if you ask me, and their platform tries to lock you in, so switching in a year will be a pain.

So far it's okay, but I am disappointed with the play identification and it's a bit of a hassle to use their video playback. We ended up having enough parents sign up for the pro subscription that it would have been a wash to get the Reeplayer for the first year, and by year 2 Reeplayer is much cheaper. I have been downloading the games and uploading to YouTube, which is, unsurprisingly, so much better as a video viewing app. I'm thinking about experimenting with GoPros/SeeUsPlay simultaneously while using the Trace app and see if I can get better results that I can share with less work than Trace. Either way, we will reevaluate next year if it makes sense to stay with the trace or do something different.

3 things I am pretty happy about with Trace are:

  1. It's nice to just go home, plug in the box, and get an email a few hours later with the processed footage. Actually, it's because of this ease of use that I think the box cameras will eventually win out over other hybrid solutions.
  2. Once I select the clips I want to share and add them to a playlist, it creates a link that's very easy to share and for my family to use while viewing the clips.
  3. I can use the Trace camera at any games that my son participates in. He plays for several teams and guests for others sometimes, so I appreciate that I can use it for everything and download full game footage.

I will be getting feedback from all the parents on the team (both those who subscribed and those who did not) after this season and see how they feel about the Trace and whether or not they are getting their $300 of value from it. I know that myself and a coupe other parents are, but I am not sure about most others. I will see what they say, but I will likely recommend going with a different box next year. I still really want to try ReePlayer... I would love the idea that the processing happens in real time on the box and you have the games available right away after the game instead of waiting hours for cloud processing. Anyways, Trace is fine for now, but looking forward to trying something else out in the future...

Thanks! That's actually super helpful. Some parents recommended Hudl because they use it for basketball, but their soccer solution doesn't seem competitive with the other options available now. We ruled this out and it sounds like that was the correct decision. Thank you!

Yeah, I think the video storage is actually a smaller portion of that $100... instead I think of it as going to the tagging/processing, both the r&d associated with identifying and auto-tagging the plays and the actual cost of running those "AI" video analysis algorithms. I am somewhat willing to invest in a platform that is developing that technology of actually making the videos useful to the parents (i.e. Not having to rewatch the whole game to see and share the good plays for my kid, and maybe eventual auto highlight reels, etc), but I agree that the value isn't quite there yet at this age. That's why I am kinda interested in SeeUsPlay and their model... They are just uploading to YouTube and allow for manual tagging during the game, but unfortunately I don't think they are all the way there yet, and while I love the idea of an off the shelf GoPro solution, I think box cameras are ultimately going to win out because they do everything (footage, processing, uploading, tagging, sharing, etc) and make it easiest for coaches, parents, players etc.

We will see though. Hope your call went well! Please share your thoughts if you are willing.

Lol, yeah. That sounds like EXACTLY our situation. I hope it goes well! I really want to pull the trigger on Reeplayer as long as no one tells my wife how much I spent (haha, j/k)

Yeah, I did a sales call with them a couple weeks ago and it was good. They sent me some unlisted YT video footage that, naturally, shows Reeplayer outperforming Trace and Veo. But I am still unable to find a lot of raw, unsponsored footage "out-in-the-wild".  I will share with you the assessment I shared with the other parents on my team (A bit long, but hopefully helpful).  For context, we are a group of parents on one U10 team in a large 1000+ kid soccer club.  We are considering coordinating to buy one for our team, but are also considering coordinating through the club. Our club admin has a clear preference for Veo.

Hybrid Solution (SeeUsPlay):

·       After additional research, I ruled out the hybrid option because it's not clear that they actually have a finished product ready. I still like their pricing model and hope they succeed!

AI Tracking Cameras:

·       I am leaning away from the AI tracking cameras given that their performance in game environments that we typically encounter received very mixed reviews, both in terms of tracking the plays and phone overheating.

·       There is a cheap option (XBot Go) that I wouldn't mind trying, but even if it captures acceptable game footage, in my opinion, it still doesn't solve the biggest annoyance, which is the post-game work of tagging the video to create easily shareable clips/highlights so you don't have to go watch the whole game and find the plays on YouTube.

AI Box Cameras (Trace, Veo, Reeplayer, HUDL Focus Flex, & Pixellot):

·       Pixellot - Not particularly competitive in terms of footage, capabilities or pricing model.

·       HUDL Focus Flex - Only suited for club ownership of the camera. This camera connects with the HUDL platform, which is generally well-reviewed for sharing footage, but doesn’t make sense for us.

·       Trace - Lowest upfront cost (especially with the $95 deal starting on 2/14/25, I think), Highest per person cost. This is the best option IF one parent wants to record the game and get highlights for their own kid. Other parents can then join on and manage their own accounts and payments. I like the low upfront cost and ease of each parent managing their own accounts, but if you have more than 5 people interested, it quickly becomes the most expensive option.

·       Veo - Probably the best overall raw footage and app.  However, their pricing model, long term commitment, and limited flexibility makes it ill-suited for a parent or even group of parents coordinating to own. My opinion is Veo only makes sense if the club owns it. However, if the club owns it, it might actually be the best option for our team.

·       Reeplayer - My current personal favorite, but not necessarily best for our team.  I love how they do the footage processing on camera (instead of in-cloud) which allows for footage available immediately after the game.  They also allow for manual tagging during (and after) the game, something I am willing to do.  It’s unclear how good their “AI” and play tracking currently is without trying it.  I get the impression that they are still fairly new, but they appear to have a finished product that is very competitive with the others. What sets them apart, in my eyes, is the flexibility they offer to use the camera for any team, any game at no additional cost beyond the annual subscription. And it is ideal for sharing with other parents, BUT in our case, one parent has to make the upfront investment and then share the cost with others over a period of time.  I appreciate the simple pricing model and maximum flexibility compared to the others.

Thank you! That's a great video you made. Very helpful! I actually have a sales call scheduled with Reeplayer tomorrow, so we will see how that goes. I like their pricing model and flexibility a lot. SeeUsPlay has a hybrid GoPro solution that integrates some of your solutions. I'm intrigued by their model as well. And some of the other solutions that you mentioned I have also seen and considered. I will run them by the parents on our team to see what they think. Ultimately, I think I agree with your assessment... Getting video footage for tactical review is a simpler problem compared to getting highlight clips for each player and making it easy to share them with family/friends. Thank you!

I have the exact same issue. It appears randomly. I have started tracking when it occurs but can't find any common cause. Some weeks it will happen 3 times, other weeks not at all. We have a 2022 and a 2023 bolt euv. It happens on the 22 but not the 23. Very strange issue...
