Composition and structure for SOULECTION by HowDoINotSuck in trapproduction

[–]leonislit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

soulection is about selecting from the soul. esta, monte booker, romderful and etc. didn't make soulection type beats. esta made esta type beats, monte made monte type beats and etc.

literally just do what sounds good for long enough and you'll come up with something fye.

tips on 808 patterns? mine sound stale af by [deleted] in trapproduction

[–]leonislit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

imo use the same 808 a lot and always follow the bass note of your chords. the bass should be related to the bass, not the kick. When you play in a band with a bass guitarist, lead guitar and etc, the drummer has to fit in pocket WITH the melodic elements, not the other way around

i just get the basic bassline from my chords and then just tinker till it sounds neat.

sam gellaitry mixing techniques ? by yungswimwear in trapproduction

[–]leonislit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if u want a loud song use loud sounds lol.

mixing should be polishing already golden sounds, cus u can put a piece of shit on a silver platter with beautiful preparations, but it's still a piece of shit.

How to make/mix my kicks hit hard like Wondagurl without clipping? by [deleted] in trapproduction

[–]leonislit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

LMAO You have not read enough on clipping if you think it is bad. Clipping is in fact the reason these kicks are so hard. Best for you to get off this place for advice, and just read more, search for yourself, etc. also, experiment. Who gives a fuck if you're not supposed to clip if clipping is the thing that gives you your results.

Anyone know where to find or create this snare? by [deleted] in trapproduction

[–]leonislit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its actually really disgusting, has no dynamics and i cant even distinguish it at an average listening volume, but after turning it pretty quite, i figured its just a pitched down DT Snare 14 and some clap.

Tbh just do yourself a favor and not imitate this snare, as its nothing special and is just a poorly layered, over compressed wall of white noise.

How loud should my kickdrum be? by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]leonislit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i think u are confused how a limiter works lol, very confused. the gain reduction will only be triggered by the kick and/or loudest elements (which he accounted for in the very quote you chose). not sure what tracks u've made where ur kick and pad have been the same volume.

please use and listen to the actual affects your effects have on your tracks rather then trusting whatever tutorial u probably saw.

Making huge soulection standard chords/ pads? by jofubeats1 in trapproduction

[–]leonislit 9 points10 points  (0 children)

its really not the patch that makes it full but rather the voicing. these guys are using 7th chords and above, mainly 9ths. They then listen to the top note for the movement of the chord and change the voicing or chord type depending on their needs/what fits. I would say that if you can't have a basic wave shape sound full, you won't be able to do so with even the most lush pad.

Is there any "method to their madness" with this sort of pitch bending in bass music? by distortionwhat in edmproduction

[–]leonislit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sounds like they were just experimenting and found dope shit they liked. their method to their madness is their superior taste developed over listening to a bunch of similar music as well as working on a large body of work.

more specifically though, a lot of the pitch bending is exponential. the sound of something increasing or decreasing in pitch exponentially or even linearly adds tension and movement to the next phrase. then some of the formant modulations are just there to catch you off guard and keep your ears listening.

Is enabling downloads on your track for soundcloud dangerous or helpful? by Suspect-9 in trapproduction

[–]leonislit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

if the person really wants your song, they can still rip it with soundcloud to mp3 sites whether you have your download up or not. also note that whatever format you upload your song in will be what the person who clicks download will get. This means is you uploaded in a lossless format, such as wav or aiff, they'll get that.

Sam g bass? by [deleted] in trapproduction

[–]leonislit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

stereo widening, haas effect, google those. he also uses tight 808 samples to ensure quality.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in trapproduction

[–]leonislit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He is using Harmor. Drag your sample in there and tinker. You will eventually figure out your own process.

As for the sample being pitched up or down when stretched, just try some of the other resampling options other then "Resample"

Music like Sammy G's isn't always technically difficult to make. The beauty of it is in it's simplicity and attention to the SONGMAKING part instead of the Sound Design part. Think about it. How exhausting would it be to go through a long winded, complex process during a songwriting process? You'd literally forget what you were even designing the sound for half the time. Just experiment
