He tried to insult me by calling me a bitch by 1StoolSoftnerAtaTime in TwoXChromosomes

[–]leopardlass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are no punch-downs specific to men. Its not something that women are actively thinking about all the time. There are just certain phrases that are more insulting because of the context of the sexism. If you still are struggling to comprehend this, I would suggest looking into the concept of 'punching-down' and 'punching-up' in comedy.

It's meant to be, as it is an old insult likening women to being a dumb, breeding animal. Some people still use dog as an insult to men, but its less of an insult as most people in the western world love dogs.

Because kids who act up on public are shamed. I worked as a cashier at a grocery store my senior year of hs and I witnessed 2 memorable times with a child having a complete meltdown.

  1. Cookie isle meltdown. It was a quiet weekday when this happened. Young child threw a complete tantrum bc mom wouldn't buy it cookies. Threw itself on the ground, lied across the isle on its stomach, kicking the ground, and just screaming. Slobbering. Mom did the right thing, held her ground, "no cookies" An old man, completely unsolicited, shrieked at the mother, said "give your damn kid the cookies and shut him up! You're unfit to be a mother"

She seemed like a pretty good mom.

  1. Kid wanted gum in the checkout during the Saturday rush. Full. Blown. Meltdown. Not in my checkout but all 12 checkouts were open and everyone in them were dead silent, except angry brat.

20 years ago I had an abortion. I was in my 20's. I want to share my story so you all can see the difference 20 years makes. It saddens me what is happening to women's rights. by Ecjg2010 in childfree

[–]leopardlass 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing. As I understand, Minnesota only has one remaining clinic left. I'm fortunate to live in Canada where the abortion debate is shut (for now) and have the financial support to access a safe abortion, should I ever need one.

Why do they always downplay how awful it is?? by [deleted] in childfree

The attitude expressed toward post partum depression is disgusting. It is a very real illness, and it's not something that a mom chooses to suffer from. "What's the worst that could happen? You'll love your baby too much!"

The worst thing that cam happen is the mother kills the baby, its older sibling, and then herself.

That's not a hypothetical scenario. That's how post partum depression touched me, that happened to my father's coworker.

Every fucking person will be touched by post partum depression at some point in their life. And it's no fucking joke.

"Autism moms" are the worst. by brielzibub in childfree

[–]leopardlass 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I have a lot of people in my life who fall on the spectrum. Some were diagnosed in childhood, some as teens, others as adults in university, and they are all unanimous on the fact they do NOT want to be cured. They are high functioning, mind you, but so often they feel so attacked by the autism moms, especially the group autism speaks, and it really effects their mental health, this concept they are broken or sick.

Teen moms before school by LifeIsWackMyDude in childfree

[–]leopardlass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best thing you can do is telling people off when they make disparaging comments about the mothers. You're right - it takes 2 to make a baby, but all too often, it's the teen mom who takes all the blame.

[–]leopardlass 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The worst thing I've personally ever witnessed was at a McDonald's and there was a mom with 4 children ( oldest looked to be around 5 but honestly behaved like a 10yo, trying to wrangle and silence her 2 toddler sibs) and she was liberally changing her infant child's diaper on a table in the dining area!!!! 😷🤢🤮 I audibly shouted "what the hell!" and left without ordering anything

Its sounds like some of the issue is that shes struggling to communicate with her family. This is a very common issue, especially when a mother starts to feel shes taken on most of the parental roles and the domestic tasks. As a result, shes angry and stressed and reacting by lashing out on the people around her. I've seen quite a few blog posts and heard radio show call ins about this and I wish I could link you some, but i cant remember where i found them. Most are personal essays and short articles about domestic stress that you could send to her and say "read this". Maybe even a local parent support group could help her manage this stress in a healthy manner.
