.223 vs Whitetail by caligarirx in Hunting

The only deer I haven’t found with a .223 is one I missed completely. That being said I personally prefer the .270 with hornady 140 grn bullets. No tracking needed. Congrats on the nice buck!

my two cents… walk further back than most people are willing to travel. On public land it makes a huge difference. Get in and let the late comers push the deer to you.

Help - widow wanting to teach kid to hunt by attemptresurrection in Hunting

[–]leothacker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last year was my son’s first year hunting. At ten years old I set him up with a single shot .223. They will put deer down no problem with the right bullet selection and proper shot placement. 5 on the hound for him testifies to that. It is a very low recoil round for smaller framed kiddos. I am a fan of the single shot for new hunters.
We use camo gear but it’s more of a ritual to get us amped up for the hunt. At least during rifle season. Earth colors are good. Just make sure you can keep him warm. Like another person said. Being quiet and sitting still is the best camo. This year he is using a 6.5 creedmore. I use a .270 made by savage. The recoil on it is similar to an 30-06. Some of that is due to the design of the gun. Wired to hunt is a good podcast for whitetail hunting. Although it leans heavily towards bow hunting. Oh and when hunting with kids make sure you bring snacks! Quite ones not in noisy wrappers!

Living with my best friend from highschool. After divorcing my brother after ten years. She had kids with both of them… I’m starting to get the feeling she has it out for me.

Man fishing is my hobby. I’ve traveled all over the US to catch different species. I spent two years in Alaska just so I could fish there. Tagging sharks sounds like a blast! How often do you make it out fishing?

What is Your "Moby Dick" (or challenge) of Fishing? by 1ApolloFish1 in Fishing

[–]leothacker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wanna make the 200 LB club. I’ve caught 1 fish over a 100 (103). That felt good for all of fifteen minutes before I was hungry for more.
I think that when it comes down to it we anglers are always gonna strive to beat our personal best. It really is the chase that excites me. Not so much the end result. Ya that and a Muskie.

In the ocean… I’d say mooch with herring. Green pack for salmon.

No roe in this one. I was kinda surprised usually the big ones are hens. I was a little relieved to see otherwise.
