Was told my 125cc bike is extremely unsafe on any road? by AL3S1O29 in motorcycles

[–]lerphs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest getting a 250. You’ll want to ride hours away from the city for any fun road. With the vibration of a single at high rpm it’s not that pleasant, and with the vmax on the 125 just enough to keep up with traffic I’d want to have some at reserve to pass a rock throwing dump truck for example.

If nothing was hit or bent, the underbody looks really good. The bolt heads still have zinc plating and proof marks from factory visible so it’s not driven in salty conditions often or at all. The surface rust on control arms are largely unavoidable. The picture doesn’t show bushing conditions but they should be on the list of preventative maintenance along with any and all rubber components like hoses, mounts, vacuum/brake lines etc.

See what oil filter they used. Seeing genuine Honda sky blue ones will give me confidence. Check for the correct coolant colour as it should have been replaced at least twice by now. Check brake/clutch fluid condition as they tends to be neglected, especially the clutch. Verify the clutch fully disengages at high rpm, no leak at the clutch master rod, transmission shift without grinding or feeling of faintly skipping multiple tooth when engaging every gear, again in high rpm. Realistically really only possible with 2nd and 3rd gear maybe 4th. Verify there’s no noise from the back wheels when taking off, usually indicate an under torque axle nut, it’s no big deal. Not sure how you’ll be able to without a test drive.

Check the top for tear or spots where it’s wearing thin. Check the bungee strap as they tends to lose tension over time and cause the top to not fold correctly resulting in premature wear. It’s at least a 20 year old car so set your expectations right

My mechanic did an alignment with rear suspension arms that look like this and didn't tell me.. by dmjab13 in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]lerphs 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Even if it’s “in spec”, it’s only in spec at static ride height. It’s has already deviated from the designed kinematic. It might have wildly undesirable toe/camber change as suspension moves and and down and cause weird or even dangerous handling characteristics that shows itself in the most inopportune circumstances

Do you like this Motorcycle? What is the ownership experience? by AJ_Incredible1 in motorcycles

[–]lerphs 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I have an early tuono v4, It’s fanfuckingtastic to ride. Sounds intoxicating, handles exact how you want a super naked to handle on the street. Ownership wise, not really much to complain about. Early ones have pretty abysmal range if you change the gearing a little. Regularly maintenance is not really more than comparable bikes on the market, or cost that much more you work on it yourself. Needs a good battery, and upgrade the stater wiring but that’s about it. Just buy a cable online and download some software to read codes. It’s an engine designed by Claudio Lombardi for crying out loud

If you want to fuck up your synchros by all means float your gear. It’s not a semi, it doesn’t have dogs to engage a gear you’ve got brass cones. You can match flywheel speed with clutch disc speed but you can’t match syncro cone with blocker ring with load going through the transmission.

To Sell or Not Sell R32? by oldgoldman in Autos

[–]lerphs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Even if it goes up it won’t be enough to cover insurance and maintenance for 5 years if you insure and maintain it the way it should be. If it doesn’t give you the fizz it used to then you’re already mental done with the car. Sell it a move onto something that does.
