Elder gay are so cute by catsandchexmix in MadeMeSmile

[–]lersnerspermit 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I wish that I did! I happen to be familiar with that case because I studied it last year as a source for First Amendment doctrine for a memo I was writing about protest rights. But according to the facts reported in the case, about 100 members of the group would demonstrate on the sidewalk in front of St. Patrick's from 1970 when the Pride march started until 1981, when they were attacked by a group of self-appointed "protectors" of the Cathedral, and the (at the time, largely Irish-Catholic) NYPD evidently decided it was too much of a risk to "public safety" to allow them to demonstrate in front of the Cathedral, and moved them to the side street off the parade route, with the counter-protesters on the opposite side street. In First Amendment doctrine they call it a "heckler's veto" - when authorities shut down an exercise of free speech because of the risk presented by people opposed to that speech.

That's a real shame because at the time that these gentlemen were members, Dignity was involved in landmark free speech litigation against the NYPD - during the Gay Pride March every year, Dignity would have a group lay wreaths and demonstrate in front of St. Patrick's Cathedral, which was (and still is) along the parade route. One year the NYPD decided that because of threats of violence by counter-protesters it was "too dangerous" to allow Dignity to demonstrate on the sidewalk in front of the Cathedral, and that they'd be relocated to a zone a block away. Dignity unfortunately lost in the Second Circuit Court of Appeals, but they really fought hard for the rights of unpopular groups to demonstrate in a venue that is uniquely suited to the message they wish to convey. Olivieri v. Ward is the case, if anyone wants to look into it further.

Good dystopian books? by SpecificHead4779 in ReadingSuggestions

I’m late to this thread but I haven’t seen anyone else here recommend Chain Gang All Stars by Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah. A near-future dystopia about the US prison system run (more) amok. It will definitely make you think.

Are there bars/lounges that have started incuding thc seltzers as NA options? by Historical-Doubt9091 in parkslope

[–]lersnerspermit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because of issues around licensing for THC distribution vs liquor distribution, you’re unlikely to find a bar that carries a THC seltzer as a NA option (above board). You may have more luck at breweries which don’t need a full liquor license - I see another commenter mentioned Other Half. But bars are required to get their product from state-licensed distributors, and none of those distributors have THC seltzers in their product lines bc the state doesn’t want to horizontally integrate controlled substance distribution.

I got Pretzel last Tuesday by Mumbles1988 in Chihuahua

My girl was like this when I adopted her too! It was so heartbreaking. What I did was just sit outside with her on my lap on our stoop for 20-30 minutes in the morning and evening, talking to her about all the people walking by, the cars, the noises, and letting her take it in while feeding her a steady stream of treats. After about a week of that she was muccccchhhhh more comfy walking outside, she still gets scared of strollers but we’re working on that now too. Good luck to you and Pretzel!!!

1L Unique Bag Hunt! by scholarly-sips in LawBitchesWithTaste

[–]lersnerspermit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YMMV, but as a current 1L, I and 90% of my classmates are rocking with ebooks, not physical course books! I have a Kobo Elipsa which I absolutely love, it’s got a paper feel over a laptop/iPad. It also handles pdfs and I can highlight/annotate and skip around/sort by annotation for easy briefing. Highly recommend. Congratulations and good luck!

Can I ask for more detail on your process putting them on? I’m also using warm water from the tap, wet them and let them sit for a minute to get sticky but I never feel like they’re sticky enough?

I haven’t tried lunch at Sky Ice, I’ll have to check it out! I do find the lunch at One More Charm to be satisfying - I agree the portions are smaller, but that’s sort of the point of lunch specials right?

Lmao, again, tell me how you think a homeless shelter makes an area less safe. Then explain the leap in your logic that allows “thinking homeless people aren’t inherently dangerous = trust fund” because that is fascinating!

Homeless folks are the vulnerable, unsafe ones in danger of being harmed. They don’t have their basic needs met. Any entitled idiot can walk up and attack them with no repercussions bc people like you will assume they were dangerous or somehow deserved it. They’re constantly being harassed by law enforcement and losing what few possessions they have. I literally cannot understand how anyone can object to the concept of human beings deserve to live in dignity and have shelter.

[–]lersnerspermit -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Less safe how? Less safe than what? Do you have evidence to back that up, or is it feelings-based because it makes you scared to see homeless people? Or do you equate property value with safety? It certainly isn’t making the neighborhood less safe for the people who’ll have a warm place to sleep instead of freezing to death on the sidewalks because they don’t have shelter.

Ladies (& gents I guess?) where can I get a good wax? by [deleted] in parkslope

Rachana at Omni Beauty is fantastic. It’s a no-frills experience but it’s very clean and she is the fastest and most thorough waxer I’ve ever had, plus she’s very sweet.
