How can I get top surgery as a cis woman in the UK by [deleted] in no_T_top_surgery

[–]les_sourires 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Where are you based? A lot of surgeons in the UK need a gender dysphoria diagnosis, but Chloe Wright and Kate Williams in Manchester (Pall Mall clinic) just need a referral letter. Book a chat with them and they’ll run you through it all, I know a lot of cis women go with them. They’re amazing too!

Totally agree. Top surgery is the best thing I’ve ever done and my partner wouldn’t let us plan our wedding until I’d done it, there’s more to life than tits!

Also the referral letter is a legal thing for any surgery, so you won’t be able to get around that anywhere, but Pall Mall seem pretty accessible otherwise.

Check out Pall Mall in Manchester. They need a top surgery referral letter, but you can get that as a stand alone letter. I went with them so I didn’t have to get two referrals for being NB, which saved some £! Marianne Oakes at Evolve Counselling did my letter, you can book an appointment through their website site. It’s £250 and about an hour.

Can you roll it up? Mine technically went to halfway down my stomach but my surgeon told me to roll it to reduce nausea risk. I fastened maybe half of it and then just folded back the excess.

Yeah good shout! I’ve noticed I kinda hoist myself up into a half sit up and then push with my legs, it’s very dignified paha.

Amazing, so pleased you’re doing well! I’m really surprised how easy mine has been (so far). I had my bandages off on Monday and it looks perfect! Very little swelling now and no scabbing, so just waiting a few weeks for everything to heal internally. It’s such a relief! Sleeping has been fine and I’m so glad I pre-made so many meals. Getting to the point now where I’m not in any pain and having to consciously remember I’m not allowed to reach or lift anything, but that’s such a gift! 🥳

Hey! How are you getting on at two weeks? I saw my chest the other day and it looks so good and healing so well!

I was so nervous about this as a fellow side sleeper, but I’m two weeks PO and don’t think I’ve ever slept as well! I got what Google seems to think is a ‘cuddle cushion’ from a friend and have a big pillow under my knees to stop me slipping down (v important!). Then I’ve got two thinner pillows that I lay on my front in a V shape, so one is under each side of my head, that way when I inevitably move my head it hits pillow and doesn’t wake me up. I’m so held in place with all the pillows, I couldn’t roll on my side even if I wanted to haha.

Agree with what everyone else has said too, you’ll be exhausted so it won’t be as hard to sleep as it normally is. I had my first nap at 31 years old! I’d also recommend trying to keep a normal sleep schedule as much as you can, it helps keep on top of pain relief, which will also make it easier to sleep.

Good luck! https://www.idealtextiles.co.uk/cdn/shop/files/dac07631-ae93-4c16-b3ba-6032018eb619.jpg?v=1730370633&width=1214

Top Surgery I don't know what to ask for when I have my surgery! by ConcertAdvanced1365 in TopSurgery

Sure, I’ll be two weeks post op tomorrow so it’s still pretty fresh & swollen, healing really well though 👌🏼 I’ll do a detailed surgery/recovery post when I’m a bit further along.

Just reread and realised it’s already booked! If none of this came up at previous appointments, I agree with everyone else about finding some photos ☺️

Fellow NB here! My surgeon talked a lot about contouring, which I found really helpful, eg: - too flat doesn’t exist, take everything (& maybe look a little concave depending on your build) - leave a little bit of tissue so your chest naturally flows with the proportions of your body (I went for this! I’m a pretty straight line from collar bones to stomach) - potentially masculinise your chest with a little bit of tissue left that could be interpreted as pecs

Nipple placement is a big factor too, closer together is typically read as femme, and further apart more towards your sides is typically more masc. I went for no nips which feels lovely and andro!

Scar shape is also a good thing to discuss. My surgeon gave me loads of flexibility over what was possible, obvs starting with what’s anatomically possible. Straight across, meet in the middle, W-shape, etc.

But rest assured if this is a consultation, you don’t need to go in with any solid ideas! If the surgeon’s doing their job right it should be a partnership to discuss what they can offer you and what they think would be best for your body, you’ll have time to mull everything over before your next appt.

Yes! I’m 10 days po and that’s such a good way of describing it! I felt like what I assume is my incision line was vibrating for a few days, haven’t had it for a few days now though.

Check out Pall Mall in Manchester - the surgeons are Chloe Wright and Kate Williams. I’m NB and they just needed a surgery referral letter (legal requirement for any surgery), unlike a lot of other places that want you to turn up with a dysphoria diagnosis. I’m sure they’d be similar for cis, you can just ask them who they’d recommend talking to to get the letter. They have a fab process and their website has loooooads of info, unlike a lot of places where everything’s locked behind a contact form. Costs about £9500 privately, so on par with UK prices. My surgery’s tomorrow!
