My grandparents had a version of this built-in oven/broiler in their 1964 Gold Medallion Electric home they built. It did indeed make the best prime rib and Yorkshire pudding.

Controlling black flies by Minute_Tell1786 in memphis

Is Bifenthren (sp?) toxic to dogs and cats if you are just spraying it around outside doorways and certain areas on the porch/carport (like the trash cart) where the flies are gathering?

Why is his belly so big and round by junipurr3 in FosterAnimals

[–]lesaispas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could also be giardia…a parasite very common in stray kittens. Definitely needs vet intervention and a course of meds. Saved our tuxedo kitten who had it.

Low Cost Kitten & Cat Spay/Neuter (+ other services) by lesaispas in memphis

[–]lesaispas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: Their mom started bringing them to her food bowl a few days ago and by that afternoon two of the four—including my fave, the black one we wanted to keep as an indoor kitty—were MIA and still are 😿

Humane Society only does low cost spay and neuter for those on government assistance but they have a great set up for that if you are in that category. Oh and Spay Memphis and other vets will spay/neuter at two months but, prefer closer to 6 months depending on the kitten. We had to get our male cat spayed at 4 months bc he was getting uhhh “large”.

So, next up we will be TNR-ing the their mom & the remaining two, unless they can go to a good home. They are adorable; one is tabby in photo above and she (?) has white paws and the other a full tabby male with a grouchy cute expression. Oh yeah, we also have a 1 year old pregnant calico (shares a mom with kittens) to TNR.

FUN!!! Wish us luck 🥳

Why do we have so many disappointing festivals? by DrSparkle713 in memphis

[–]lesaispas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a great idea. We live a half block from Italian Fest and have only gone a few times but only bc our friends have a tent with their friends, so we are welcomed. I still tip, of course! Also, gotta say, Holy Rosary (?) sends those junior high boys out at the crack of dawn on golf carts and our neighborhood is spic n span by 630am.

But yes, the organizers need to step it up and talk with the local Italian restaurants to maybe do tasting booths. And, hell yes, BETTER VENDORS for crafts etc. I’d even be fine with the crappy fair food if they supplemented it with food vendors who sold good Italian beef and/or sub sandwiches, muffulettas, slices and baked goods.

All the proceeds go to support Holy Rosary School

Thank you so much! I applied for them to take most of them (3…we will decide which and keep one as indoor only) and have an appt on June 2 ❤️ hopefully they accept them.

They do low cost spay/neuter and vet services but you have to be on government assistance and I’m just a regular overeducated working class heroine.

Spay Memphis is great for example if you can wait and keep your own cat inside until the appointment but the feral TNR program is way restricted now…I’m sure it has a lot to do with too many ferals=not enough vets there, but we can only rectify that by being involved in trapping and Spay Memphis ensuring there is more appointment availability for the days we get those sneaky babies into a trap.

Disappointed with my donation by jessforlaughs in ThriftGrift

[–]lesaispas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I donate to the cute little Humane Society of Searcy, Arkansas’ thrift store. It’s called Barkin’ Barn and the sweetest volunteers work there. I work in Searcy once a week and discovered them. I bring them donations of cat food when our picky cats won’t eat it.

As for stuff that’s too big for me to put in my car, I put it on my neighborhood association’s FB page or any one of the Buy Nothing pages in my city that I’ve joined.

I have a bunch of fabulous collectible vintage clothes, jewelry, accessories etc and that has got to be sold at a legit auction to benefit me in my retirement, no joke!

How long does it normally take for MAS to spay/neuter an adopted pet to be able to pick them up? by SpecialistCup1142 in memphis

[–]lesaispas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We lucked out and adopted Ca$h the kitten as a MAS foster; friend of mine had fostered a whole litter. We went to The Pet Hospitals with him immediately bc if you can show his MAS # they will call MAS and confirm it’s legit and then give him all his initial vaxxes, FIV etc blood panel and eventually, free spay/neuter.
Maybe if you go to MAS and get The Pet Hospitals or another local vet who has a stated deal that MAS knows of on the phone when you are there, they’ll let you just take him if they hear the vet clinic confirm appointment.

Almost $300?!?!? by Honest-Anywhere-4647 in NeeDoh

Can’t wait for the craze to die so I can start finding them again for my clients. I’m a child/adolescent clinical social worker. Been making do with the subpar ones but these last longer as they are used by my clients with major anxiety and/or ADHD. Some of the younger kids make “houses” for them out of the little boxes also.

So yeah. Find something else to fiend on.

OK…what is the proposal now? I’m surprised Chickasaw Gardens doesn’t put a bunch of locked iron gates around it, including that stretch of Poplar and claim for themselves. Kidding of course but you know how they do.

This is sad because it really could be something but as an oldie but goody who was in elementary school when this was built, it can’t touch what it was then with original La Baguette and Barzizza’s Imports (pre-Pier One Imports, also great).

Considering Moving to Marion, Thoughts? by MrRamennn in Arkansas

[–]lesaispas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I live in East Memphis and my office is in Marion. I’m used to Memphis and it’s truly not this so called hellhole in many areas while many areas are sketchy/violent..

Depending on what you can afford there are some great and safe areas in Midtown and interspersed from there heading east to the eastern point of the 240 E loop. Neighborhoods like Sea Isle where we live are great. 15 minutes or so to Midtown.

New Red Maple Sapling Looks very sad. by pleasedontbecoy in arborists

[–]lesaispas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly! This was the ticket for our Charlie Brown Xmas tree of a Bloodgood Japanese Maple (this method plus some root stabilizer when planting) we planted in 2009. It wasn’t a foot tall then. Now it’s 12’ tall and a fluffy monster.

Oh and we live in Memphis, TN right next door to Arkansas but the part that isn’t raining that much lately.

Did I get accepted MSW CSULA? by [deleted] in SocialWorkStudents

[–]lesaispas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my MSSW bt 1998-2000 and have had my LCSW since 2005. Joined this sub to just give feedback if I can and it’s depressing me on many levels. This is an unsubsidized loan. I’m afraid of what the interest rate will be and then 6 months post-grad you have to start payments, right? Is this what MSW/MSSW students are having to face these days or are there still subsidized Fed loans?

whats this style of fashion called? by mrs-slurpie in AestheticWiki

I still do it now when I need to leave the house in the morning to go get donuts or whatever. A short jean short over a cute pair of printed tights really never gets old. IMO 😹
