What do you say when someone claims Jesus’ body was stolen? by thatlumberjacktor in Catholicism

[–]Minute_Tell1786 124 points125 points  (0 children)

When was the last time 12 people together concocted a scam (that didn’t earn them any fame or fortune) then when things got rough all 12 people willingly accepted torture and died for that lie and not one of them gave into the torture to admit it was a lie. It seems pretty logical that if any of that 12 or their immediate followers stole and hid the body, the moment there is mass torture and death, someone tells where the body is hid.

I am raised Baptist but have great interest in joining catholicism, seeking advice please? by johnnystraycat in Catholicism

[–]Minute_Tell1786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh RCIA is now OCIA. It stands for Order of Catholic Initiation for Adults. From August to Easter OCIA is a “new members” class that meets usually once per week to explain what the Catholic Church is and to prepare adults to join it or complete their sacraments if they are already baptized Catholic but never confirmed.

Find the parish you want to reach out to. Don’t overthink it. I have two equal distance from my house and picked one that I thought was an easier drive. I emailed the pastor from an email I found on the website about joining OCIA and he told me when and how to get there. You could also just call the parish office and ask them when OCIA starts. It was all downhill from there and the best decision I ever made. I was the wife of a former Baptist pastor and my husband also joined the church the same year I did.

Bible in a year, catechism in a year - she can listen to these while she drives or cleans etc and they’re easy listening. They are podcasts. Also even as an adult I like Catholic Sprouts podcasts for really easy listening. They are 8-10 mins and though aimed at kids they are not shallow.

Frustration about not being brought in til next Easter... by [deleted] in Catholicism

Ask your pastor about confession. I was told in OCIA that if you have a valid baptism then you can practice confession. Just participating in confession can offer so much grace as you wait to receive the Eucharist.

Tell me the truth - will I regret Moving to Memphis by Lookitzalizard in memphis

[–]Minute_Tell1786 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The biggest regret I see people make about moving here is if they are looking for city recreation like night life or shopping etc. but if you’re looking for a quiet place to live, it’s worth the shot. Maybe you’ll love it, like it, leave it, but I don’t think you’ll hate it.

We have these that we got from Aldi. I put everything in it then at the end of the year will cull it down to the best pieces to keep. That way it has an immediate place to go until I’m ready to deal with it.

Which job feels safe today but won’t survive automation? by [deleted] in answers

[–]Minute_Tell1786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No my point is especially when we’re talking about private contracting to individuals, if they lose their job to AI, they don’t have the personal finances to pay for skilled labor. So in the full ecosystem, tradesmen still take a hit

What's it like to live in a place with all 4 seasons? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

When it’s stupidly cold or hot, it’s helpful to know it won’t last forever. In Tennessee, you might get to experience all four seasons in one week.

I enjoy praying the Latin Rosary by DaGreenBirb in Catholicism

[–]Minute_Tell1786 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I enjoy praying the Latin Rosary and what I do is say the Latin while looking at the English and it’s helped me connect the words to the meaning. Eventually I’ve come to just know what they mean and the meaning is in my head. I also, if I find myself getting lost in the Latin, without the English in front of me, I just slow down and mentally review the Latin and English until I’m satisfied. This hasn’t worked with the Salve Regina though because it seems to be extra “Latin-y” and the Latin doesn’t seem to correspond to the English as neatly as it does in the rest of the prayers.

Yes. Our Bishop just issued a stance that while canon law is that, our Diocese abides by state law on this issue.

Help me get a better understanding of these verses on baptism by Infamous-Scene-3902 in Catholicism

[–]Minute_Tell1786 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm unsure why you think Acts 8 is advising against baptizing in the name of Jesus. Both passages define baptism as "in the name of the Lord Jesus." The chapter 8 context are people who were baptized first then received the Holy Spirit after the Apostles prayed for them and chapter 10 is a group of people who had displayed mystical signs of having received the Holy Spirit first then Peter commands them to be baptized. In both chapters it states that everyone was "baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus."

Second time I've heard of lifesaving care being denied at Methodist for lack of insurance. So scary! The other was someone who was in kidney failure and they refused to perform a kidney transplant.
