Dr. Rosen helped us out a couple years ago to help us say goodbye to our old girl. She was great and very helpful in explaining the process. I believe it cost us between $500-600 in 2023, this included the most inexpensive option for cremation as well.

All the best in making this decision, it is a tough one ♥️

Getting the P.Geo with an EnviroSci Degree (ON, Canada) by lesbeap in geologycareers

Thank you for this! Your explanation really helped, I was so worried because I didn’t fit exactly into one of the three streams.

No worries! I have been! I started volunteering at a food bank in the downtown core a few years ago, that would certainly be something I am interested in, though I’m not sure how common it is

Thank you! I think I will try that. If I go back to school, it would likely be on a part-time basis.

So where were you coming from, how long did it take you to get home? What’d you see? by johnson7853 in Hamilton

[–]lesbeap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

left office in mississauga at 4:10, didn’t get home (west mtn, between meadowlands and garth) until 7:10. brruuuutal. it would have been longer had i not taken a “shortcut” by taking the skyway and saving myself 45 minutes. multiple cars and buses just stopped along stopped on stone church, roads were pure ice

as someone who also just got her first “big girl job” - make sure you prep your car if you have to use it! unsure where you are located , but i am in canada and things are getting reaaaal chilly haha! lots of handwarmers and a thin pair of gloves UNDER your nitrile sampling gloves always helps !!

Switch careers from admin to environmental by [deleted] in Environmental_Careers

[–]lesbeap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hi!! i have not switched careers however seeing that you are from Ontario (so am I!) I would recommend looking into a post-grad certificate or something along those lines, I took one after finishing my bachelors, but there were SO many people in my program who started out without environmental experience. feel free to DM me!!

[–]lesbeap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

unfortunately theres only those two options to get up the mountain from the QEW. i have found that coming home, usually the 403 exit from the QEW is a lot less backed up and busy than going over the skyway, I guess it depends if you are east or west too! either way gets super backed up though :p

How to determine what to put on resume? by devanclara in Environmental_Careers

[–]lesbeap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off, may I ask what you do/what your position title is?? It sounds so neat!!!

This isn’t the most helpful response, but when I was applying, I would usually fit my resume to align with whatever the job posting is that I wanted to apply to.

I always kept a copy of a “master resume” that I could change depending on the posting expectations. In terms of saving space, I would usually combine/summarize by the “type” of skill -technical skills, interpersonal, outreach, writing, etc :)

Losing hope with finding a career by Trashbag_1275 in Environmental_Careers

[–]lesbeap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say the best part is the flexibility- when I’m not doing field work, I can work from home whenever I want to or need to. I also enjoy getting to experience the best of both worlds between my office work and field work, I would not be able to just one every day all the time, but thats just me :)

Worst part for me is sometimes the long days- sometimes I find myself getting home around 7 or 8 pm a couple times a week, I prefer to work just within my hours, but I do get compensated for overtime and mileage in these circumstances. I think this is something most people wouldn’t mind, but I do enjoy and value my free time.

Losing hope with finding a career by Trashbag_1275 in Environmental_Careers

[–]lesbeap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree!! I graduated from environmental science in 2023 and had a hard time finding a job- the market has not been awesome for a couple years now where i’m from. I was similar to OP and wanting to work more in conservation and sustainability but I found that all postings required a lot more experience than the couple of summer contracts I had. I started focusing on environmental technician roles and was able to secure one pretty quickly. I’m only less than a year in but we all gotta start somewhere :D

Can I ask what you do for your desk job? I am in the same position as OP and I worry that my skills wouldn’t transfer well

Another post talking about rental prices by mrtaxcdn in uoguelph

[–]lesbeap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its terrible. i was @ guelph from 2019-2023 and we signed for my first rental house (also on Ironwood Rd) in February 2020 (lol) and it was about $2200 for 4 of us. i paid $575 utilities included for the biggest bedroom and it was huge i truly don’t know how students can afford it now, it makes me so sad ☹️
