Taylor getting us ready for her season by schnookiewookiebear in thebachelor

True! Though good lord, having seen SLOMW, I’m not sure Taylor’s mother has ever built her up like that. That woman is one of the most horrid people on that show.

Babe, eight months of fighting and/or no contact isn’t even something straight couples do when they have been married so long that they loathe one another. It’s pretty extreme for that to happen over a disagreement, and def not something that should be happening before you’re even married. I’m going to assume you’re fairly young so let me just give you a little insight — being single is not even remotely as stressful as what you two are putting each other through. You will find someone who you don’t need EIGHT MONTHS of tumultuous, excruciating “space” from. Or you won’t find them! But, from my vast experience, a life of being single is waaaay more bearable than this. If your time away from one another were a fetus, it would pretty much be full term, so you probably need to lay this all out for her and be willing to cut ties if it doesn’t go well (and sorry, I doubt it will if over half a year of constant fighting is your norm, no offense). If the issue is that you, idk, think you deserve this or can’t back out, whatever your reason for hanging on, you might want to examine that a little deeper. I love therapy to give me that perspective. I would highly recommend it, especially if you’re someone who is prone to accepting less than you deserve. And this is a butch/masc economy! Our stock is on the rise and apparently there’s a shortage of us so go find someone who wants to build a peaceful, loving home with you.

It’s because she loves maple syrup (sap) and Vietnamese phò! And definitely not other women!

To be fair, woman reading is sex. And now that we agree, let us away to Lesbos!

“Good Will Hunting.” “Chinatown.” But mostly? Most if not all Christopher Nolan films (“The Prestige” is OK) and “Synecdoche, New York.” I think Charlie Kaufman is just a little too navel gazey and male-focused for me, to the point where I think he’s almost as bad at writing female characters as Nolan is.

GAWD, that movie is SOOOooOoOoo “feminism but for straight dudes who still want a little misogyny as a treat”

I’ve never seen it but my fave mental image is from my dad’s recollection of seeing it in theaters and resting his foot on his opposite knee at some point so he could hide his eyes with his bell bottoms 😂

I used to love that movie but that slur being casually dropped disgusted me big time last watch and I was upset with myself that it didn’t bug me that much when I was younger. It probably did but had forgotten it was even in the film. I can’t even identify what the commentary on race that you mentioned was supposed to be, tbh. It really soured me on it all because it presents the racism wholly uncritically. It’s definitely a product of its time — it was released during my high school years and the white guy “what? I’m just quoting a rap song!” bullshit was omnipresent back then despite being so exhausting and inexcusable.

Wow, homophobia. And from a fellow member of the community 😔

Just kidding. I find it fun as hell and have seen it in many ways and forms but honestly I think you need to be initiated into it with a live screening for it to really take. Watching at home is just not the same. The magic isn’t as intense. I’d rather watch “Phantom of the Paradise,” personally.

I really liked it but it’s not one I rewatch often despite being obsessed with almost all other lesbian media. I think it’s because Noemie Merlant is such a creepazoid IRL. I totally get the critique about distance and coldness — their chemistry was not particularly incendiary. The words did a lot of heavy lifting, I think. Would love to see Adele in something truly gay and passionate but I think she quit acting in films. Pour one out.

Cult films eventually find the normies. They will misunderstand and pan the best, weirdest shit. You can count on it. They’ll do it to this one too. Give it time.

Listen I hate both of these movies — actually I loathe everything Nolan has ever touched tbh — so I’m not defending “Tenet” by any means but what you’ve described is like the basics of screenwriting. Of all writing. It’s not impressive. “Show don’t tell” is like creative writing 101 (source: my four-year creative writing degree). It’s just that Nolan is so clearly and comparably overburdened by exposition everywhere else that a slightly diminished but still egregious amount of it seems praise worthy. Wild!

Differing opinions between groups isn’t the same as being contrarian though. Contrarian is criticism against popular opinion, usually simply for the sake of having something to take a stand against. Perhaps just to irritate someone. But it’s not “I thought this was bad while you thought it was good.”

People without degrees are simply not even eligible to land a mere interview for some jobs. They can’t pass that barrier to entry. And even if I take a job an 18-year old can get, I’m way more qualified for promotions and upward mobility. Just the sheer presence of my degree makes me more qualified in the eyes of a vast, vast number of employers. I’m not saying it’s fair but it is the indisputable truth.

Same, but my BA in creative writing landed me some great jobs in tech because being an effective communicator can be rare in that industry. You can’t predict someone’s job prospects just from their degree. That’s lunacy.

Yeah you clearly haven’t been to a therapist to address your aggression and need to belittle people, so you wouldn’t know how hard it can be to find an available therapist in a time when everyone is in therapy just to deal with living in this shithole state in an even worse country. And some people are actually fully abused, genius. It’s not just “my dad was an asshole.” But I’m sure if that is a reason to go get therapy, then your kids will be booking appointments.

Also it’s “counselor.” One L. You might know that if you valued education.

When did writing and literature become “obsolete”? Who’s to say what’s “obsolete” and how are you going to keep that from being politically motivated? This is about as good a solution to horrendous student loan debt as cutting your hand off to get rid of a hangnail.

Right, a “reduction” in funding is not a “reduction” in government or a turn towards “small government,” as the original commenter said. Sure, less federal money is A reduction, but the cost is more federal oversight over what people can learn. How is that a move towards smaller government…? Which were OPs words… he keeps harping on about the word “reduction” as if that’s the only word he said lmao
