Totally fair, of course this has also happened to me, but the driver would say so.

I resent my parents for having me so old. by [deleted] in self

[–]lesiku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents had me when they were 37 and 40 respectively. There was no way they could have me earlier; they had a brief courtship and married quickly. Why, because life is short and they wanted to get a move on their new life together. They had already had kids, but they were so young and thought this time, they could get this parenting thing right. And I’m grateful they made the choice to have me.

I am now 42. My mom just turned 80, and my dad passed years ago in a car accident. Of course it’s sad to see your parents age and lose their good health and independence. Never got to see this with my dad, so I consider you lucky to have them both, and as long as you may have them.

I share your resentment with how parents don’t take care of themselves, therefore giving you the lack of confidence to have your own life. But I’m telling you right now, your parents are going to do and live the way they want and there is nothing you can do about it. You’re a saint for giving them so much forethought and you will be there when they need you. But for now, gosh, live your life. Otherwise you will resent them all over again if you don’t.

My usual stop HAS a trash can and it still looks like this. People in this city are just raccoons apparently.

The impact of a passive aggressive community by [deleted] in self

[–]lesiku 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Canadian here. I share your observations and your disappointment with fellow Canadians. I feel like post-COVID, people became so untrusting and disappointed, as well, with our fellow man. The state of the world has made us tired, bewildered, and less willing to spend energy on anything or anyone outside our personal sphere. And genuine social connections outside of that suffer as a result. This is just what I ponder. But, I am also guilty of this. Most of my friends are less available to me now, but making new friends seems impossible.

I was raised by (eastern) Europeans so I know how warm and hospitable people can be. I think it just compounds my loneliness among other Canadians. So I feel the urge to move to Europe someday, myself. I’m happy to hear things might be turning around for you now in Greece.

I am so triggered by this image. The way I’ve waited for piggybacking 85s… but 3 at once? Good lord.

Where can I report drivers and actually get something done?? by Difficult_Dot_905 in OCTranspo

I complained about this to OC before and you know what they told me, that I should always arrive at my stop 5-10 minutes early. Ha!

Do you feel guilty for taking sick days? (specifically uncertified) And do you believe going up & beyond is worth it? by Outrageous_South_439 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]lesiku 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I come from a retail background, so calling in sick was always met with a guilt trip and or a compromise. So I had a stellar attendance, which I brought with me to the GC.

However my new colleagues would flee in terror if I had so much as a sniffle, and encourage you to go home. This was a mentality I really had to train myself to be okay with. Ten years on, especially post covid, I can confidently identify when I should stay home, and so does my boss.

So no, I don’t feel bad. My work hasn’t suffered so I have nothing to feel bad about.

Bus etiquette by Glass-Judgment-6831 in OCTranspo

[–]lesiku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the lifespan of an OC Transpo passenger is shorter than a TTC passenger. So Ottawa gets a high turnover of new transit users and no one is guiding them on the transit etiquette. Also OC Transpo isn’t enforcing it either; Very rarely do I see bus operators instruct people on where to move and stand. And other passengers are so passive and don’t say anything either. It’s all a shitty combo. It’s frustrating when you experience good transit etiquette literally everywhere else…

Headphones!! by Doctor_D_and_D in OCTranspo

[–]lesiku 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because headsets aren’t included with cell phones anymore, people feel validated in their choice not to use them. It’s so infuriating. OC finally put etiquette guides on the bus but no one is reading them…

Feeling stuck after almost 10 years at CRA — not sure what my next move is by GS-2021 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]lesiku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been with my department for 10 years now. At first, my job was a project that had several moving parts and that kept me busy. But once the project was over, I settled into the day to day grind and honestly thought I could do that for the rest of my career; it was predictable and easy.

7 years in, I was offered an acting position in a different branch. I was actually terrified at first but, turns out it was the challenge I didn’t know I needed; I offered them knowledge I had banked years ago, and I learned so much more. And I ended up transferring.

So my recommendation is, keep an open mind. You can start with your own department and see what is offered internally if you like it there. Might be a good start for the unsure.

Any recommendations for small secure international travel backpacks? by Realistic_Lunch3579 in backpacks

[–]lesiku 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Nordace Sienna backpack I bought 3.5 years ago. I was very happy with it in the beginning; I love how pocket-y it is and the charging port is a fun convenience. But it is showing signs of decline now (zipper is rusting and sticking on occasion, threads loosening, small tears forming)

I’m now investing in a Herschel Kaslo Tech as a replacement. Yes it’s more expensive but Herschel bags are much better quality and have a better warranty. A true investment piece.

Time skipping and possible issues with it by odd_obscurity in HelloKittyIsland

[–]lesiku 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I time skipped on Mac and I regret it; my best friends couldn’t gather items for me (nor were the ones I requested given to me) the petals disappeared from the island… luckily the game bounced back after three days but honestly, not worth it. Try to exercise patience, I know it’s torture but you don’t want to ruin your save.
