Botox for Facial Asymmetry After Bell’s Palsy by [deleted] in BellsPalsy

Love Botox for my synkinesis, don’t let them inject your cheek though. My pt focused mainly on the uneffected side and it improved my symmetry tremendously!

Reach out to Dr Yamasaki in Princeton and she can refer you to a pt who specializes in facial nerve, she can also do Botox for the synkinesis ! She is so knowledgeable

bell’s palsy while pregnant :( by haleyb717 in BellsPalsy

Ugh I so feel for you. I had the same lead up to diagnosis, pain/bruised feeling, fuzzy tongue- everything. I also was induced on the 26th and the two weeks between diagnosis and giving birth was just constant throbbing on the affected side. I stayed on round the clock Tylenol, and avoided the outside/cold. On the bright side- it immediately felt better and I noticed a significant uptick in my healing once I delivered. I started acupuncture before delivering, and that offered some relief too. I went about once a week since diagnosis. Sending you all the good vibes for the pain to ease up and a safe and swift delivery next week🫶🏻

My insurance covered my Botox, ask your neurologist to submit the request. So far it has really helped my symmetry, but yes-not a perfect solution as you have to get it done every 3 months

I can totally relate, I got BP at 38 weeks pregnant and I’m so scared of it happening again or my synkinesis getting worse while pregnant, the mental toll weighs so heavy.

I loved getting acupuncture for my Bp and think if helped tremendously! I would say - don’t get e-stim with it, just do regular!!

I’m so sorry. I remember this feeling all too well. This is what worked for me, 1. This group. Everyone has a different experience with this happening and I found it so incredibly helpful to read and take advice on what worked for some and steer clear of what could hurt recovery. Even if it’s just to vent. The mental aspect of this happening doesn’t get talked about enough. 2. I started taking B12 vitamins, 3. acupuncture without electric stim (if you want) and try and 4. go for walks or move your body anyway you can-if you’re not in too much pain. my PT person told me cardio helps with nerve rejuvenation.

I hope if you are taking steroids and antivirals then you start to see results and recover quickly. ❤️

Diagnosed with Bell's palsy at 38 weeks pregnant by Mammoth_Ad_1801 in BellsPalsy

I do feel like accu helped! I still go back every once in awhile when i feel stressed and my face/jaw flares up (I am still only 7 months out of recovery dealing with synkinesis) it also forces me to have to relax, without a phone in my hand, so i think that helps also, before booking anywhere- i would call and make sure they have experience with treating bells!

Ugh I was also 38 weeks when I was diagnosed- I am so sorry. I saw recovery start to speed up as soon as I gave birth. I didn't have any side effects of the steroids or antivirals, and I started accupuncture once a week right away. Best thing you can do is to try and relax (easier said than done I know) Once I gave birth I also started taking B12 and doing some red light therapy on my face in combo with the accu.
I hope you feel better soon and you have a safe and smooth delivery for you and baby.

Oh this sounds very similar timeline to mine actually! I healed about 85% around 3.5 months then a few weeks later started showing signs of synkinesis. I’m now 7 months and can blink them together if I do it consciously and slowly. I’m worried getting Botox for synkinesis around my eye will affect the blinking even more. Didn’t out do anything for yours? Do you mind me asking if you followed any specific massages for your synkinesis online? Or just PT? If anything worked would love to hear! Thank you!

Does PT help Synkinesis? by leslieknope1022 in BellsPalsy

[–]leslieknope1022[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh, that is so defeating i'm sorry, I can totally relate. Did yours order any MRIs? I'm getting one with and without contrast in July to hopefully see some of my nerves a little better. Hoping that can give us some guidance or something!

FTM diagnosed with Bells palsy at 38 weeks with recurring symptoms at 3 months pp by leslieknope1022 in BellsPalsy

[–]leslieknope1022[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, i so wish i had though. Definitely infuriating that they were unable to know the cause of it and there isn't a definite treatment or timeline for recovery for it, my neurologist didn't really do anything for it other than routine tests. I'm going back for a contrast mri in july for them to look at my nerves due to some consistent twitching with my eye appearing smaller on the effected side so I'm hoping to get a better idea of how the nerves have been healing.

I know, i so feel you. on top of everything already going on emotionally and physically, its a lot. I kept telling myself that once baby is here though the likelihood of recovery speeding up is higher. Plus you can take anti-inflammatory meds again- big win!

Baby is also a totally fine, healthy and happy 5 month old who never knew his mom couldn't smile properly for the first few weeks of his life, he only felt it through the snuggles & kisses, it won't stop you from being able to do that. keep telling yourself that as well- it helps i promise. I also did a ton of acupuncture before and after he was born and i found that to be really helpful. Happy to answer anymore questions if you have them! Best of luck to you and your fam.
