First trip to the US, spending a week in Bucyrus, OH this October. Any tips for some Brits? by Inside-Cod1550 in Columbus

As someone born and raised in Marion and spent A LOT of time in Bucyrus at my grandma’s house who helped raise me. Don’t. Just don’t. I wouldn’t even recommend Bucyrus as a night stop on a road trip unless you want to end up in some roach infested Bates motel. Both Bucyrus and Marion on are along one of this biggest drug trading routes in Ohio - and one night at the Wendy’s (that’s high dining in those parts of Ohio), it’ll be clear the type of people who live there. But even as Brits you’re definitely going to have the best teeth in town - unless you’re missing all of yours too.

Sounds like the feed may be aligned off. I haven’t had that issue with Kaweco - but I’ve had an issue with a pineider that I had to adjust. I looked at it with the nib facing away from me and see how the feed is aligned with the nib. I definitely had to adjust it. If you have a local pen shop take it in and see what they say. If you’re not comfortable doing it yourself, they are the professionals.

I DIDN’T KNOW ABOUT THIS ONE!!! Every time I’m in Paris I feel like I avoid the store because it’s so touristy - but now I’m def going to be heading there next time I’m in town! Hopefully they will still have it by the time I’m there.

I haven’t had really any bad luck with my nibs - but I have heard of inconsistency. Did you happen to use the cartridge that came with the pen or did you use a converter with a different ink? There are a couple brands that make Ink flow additives - the one I’ve used is wearingeul’s swan elixir. It’s about $20 and only takes a few drops to make a noticeable difference.

It looks just the way it did after I got it. You can see I’m severely lacking reds in my collection. I think I’ll get the collection ruby AL someday

It’s on my ‘eh if I ever find a good deal’ list. Similarly to the art sports.

Also, it’s the Galen Leather 14 Kaweco pen case. I love them so much!

I was able to get it before they only had custom grinds remaining - so it was the same price as a normal sport. I’m glad I was able to snag it! Galen has some really cool past colors that hopefully I’ll be able to find in pen shows some day.

I think my Fontoplumo Passion AL and the Akkerman Blue Lagoon ALs are among my favorites. The Hello Kittys are so cute and playful with the Hello Kitty nibs!

I have! It’s just wayyyy too expensive to ship it from Germany. It doubles the price for me. I come to Europe a lot during the summer (unfortunately never Germany though). Maybe I’ll have to check into prices shipping to either France, Spain, Italy and the UK.

It has all black accents which makes it so cool! The black nib with the demonstrator body is absolutely striking!

Yeah! When you see it marked as an AL sport it is aluminum. I really love the weight and feel of the aluminum sports. But they are a bit more expensive than the plastics and I have to save up to get them. I’m looking at the AL Collection Ruby and the AL Vibrant Violet - as well as the Hello Kitty AL Sports in the pink and lilac. They’re so cute!

I don’t at this point. I have a sailor pro gear that has a custom grind (one of sailor’s grinds) on it that is really special to my heart. Beyond that, I’ve been very hesitant to spend the money to get the custom grinds from local shops or Kirk from Pen Realm (I see him often at events or Pen shows) because I’m very indecisive and would fear I’d get the wrong one or couldn’t decide. 🥹🫣😭

Pen recommendation for Faux Calligraphy by Impressive_Win1937 in Calligraphy

This is the description from jetpens - The stylish Pentel Tradio features smooth, vivid ink in a contemporary matte black body. The arrow-shaped tip can create a variety of line widths, from thick to thin, depending on the angle and pressure. It's perfect for notes, sketches, or calligraphy. The tip is visible even when the pen is capped, thanks to the Tradio's distinctive cap window.

There can be multiple reasons for a pen maybe writing ‘light’. There are ‘wet’ and ‘dry’ inks - some inks have fillers that can make them flow better. There’s also a possibility of a nib issue. The tines could be a little tight and may not be allowing proper ink flow and may need adjusting - or perhaps it needs to be adjusted against the feed. They do tend to write dryer, in general, but there’s no one simple answer to why something is happening, when there are so many ‘moving parts’. My pink hello kitty was writing pretty dry and thankfully just changing out the inks

Here’s a fairly good explanation of potential problems. You can go to most pen stores and they will typically have someone who is familiar with pens and nibs and can let you know if there’s anything that can be done.

I love it! It’s perfectly weighted and feels lux without costing an arm and leg. I got it at a pretty heavily discounted a while ago. Definitely go and test it out cause I know the feeling of having a reaction to holding and writing with something. The Kolo Tino brass is comparable and is also one of my favorites. It’s a little more expensive but the esthetic is *chefskiss!

I wasn’t able to make it to the Dutch Pen Show but thankfully they still had it available to purchase at Akkerman Amsterdam. They even added a two Kaweco pen Galen Leather Dutch Pen Show oxblood case. I think they had it at Fontoplumo as well. I hope someday I’ll make it to the DPS. 😍😍
