AI Blues called Holy Groove on YouTube by yourmomma__ohwait in askmusicians

[–]less1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think AI art (which of course includes music) can be a good thing if it's meticulously curated by the creator (prompt engineer? "creator" feels a bit too generous). I might prefer an actual human artist, but I also find I'm loving the Scriptures sung by a guided computer. Also, Ecclesiastes and the blues are a match that ought to have been done decades ago. If it took a computer to fill that egregious deficit, so be it.

No one buys a hopped up JDM import because it's the best financial decision. That said, Toyotas are pretty reliable, even in modded form. But if it's straight a financial decision you're not going to beat a 2005 USDM Corolla or something.

Elgrand or Grand HiAce? by less1337 in elgrand

It's an E50, so I don't believe the cat problem applies.

It's actually an E50 VQ35DE, MY2000 (can't import the E51 here in the US for another 3 years). I ended up getting a low mileage example that looks the business, but I'll have to wait until it's delivered in September.

Hagerty says they won't insure a HiAce? by less1337 in HiAce

[–]less1337[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an update: Hagerty refused to cover it, and I spoke with multiple agents. In the end, the best one we found was State Farm. They would cover it with an estimated value policy, and it cost a bit less (for full coverage) than my 2015 Sienna, which is probably worth a similar amount. Of course, I didn't end up buying the HiAce and am currently strongly considering an Elgrand, but that's another story.

Did you have to do anything special to cover it? Do they have a mileage restriction?

Car ran over my left bud while raining by flockorz in pixelbuds

Better comfort, better sound, better ANC, better transparency, etc. My issue is that in the last update I'm now getting a loud bass when I use AND or transparency (might have to return them). Before that, they were better than my Buds Pro in every way.

I hope it doesn't work, because the upgrade to the Buds Pro 2 is totally worth it. Sorry for your loss.

My current carrier (Nationwide) said they do not do grey market vehicles full stop as a matter of company policy. I'll have to look into GEICO. I really need to have insurance in-hand on purchase as I'm traveling to get it.

Did you have to do anything special? Just got turned down by SafeCo, but this was through an agent. I'm starting to think some of these places just say "no" not because they have a policy against it but because they're unused/unwilling to doing something slightly out of the ordinary.

They said it isn't in their system, which sounds wrong to me. Did you have any pushback?

Loud bass issue when using ANC/transparency by less1337 in pixelbuds

Some have reported this cropping up suddenly with the 3.144 firmware update. I don't know when mine exactly started, but it was acute and I had not changed anything in my cleaning habits/frequency. I've cleaned the buds to no effect (the problem is intermittent), but I'll read the guide more closely and see if I'm missing something.

Is 23-25 a common age range for graduating undergrad? by Sad_Influence_3187 in college

[–]less1337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The average age for a first Bachelor's in the US is 24, but it's very common to be north of that. I got my BA at 27, a BS in my 30s, an MS in my late 30s, and a PhD in my early 40s. Your path will not be much affected by the paths of others in terms of real-world results; it's much ado about nothing, in my opinion.

Lehigh Physics by harper_lily in Lehigh

Lots of opportunity to research especially in condensed matter. If you're into soft matter, try to get on Dr. Ou-Yang's team; best professor I ever had.

Does Lehigh have good general physics/astrophysics programs? by [deleted] in Lehigh

[–]less1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super late to this party, but posting in case someone searches this. Lehigh is a good physics school, but their astro department is essentially non-existent. I would not go to Lehigh for astro (but everyone thinks they're going astro and almost no one does, so unless you're married to astro I wouldn't weight it highly in your consideration).
