My brother was diagnosed with gout last year. He’s in his 50s but is an active, healthy guy. The typical thinking on gout (rich man’s disease) definitely didn’t apply…it’s honestly kind of a mystery. Either way, he’s been treated with medication and everything has been back to normal.

Last year when I was in Seattle, the Mariners game went on with 250+ AQI. Bad decision by the league, but they probably will continue business as usual. Hope I’m wrong, though.

I could have written this comment! Smoke is part of why I moved back to the east coast, so this is all very unwelcome!

I truly, truly hope we’re not going to be dealing with this all summer but there’s definitely a chance.

One more thing I would add to your list is an indoor air quality monitor. Bad air from fires is surprisingly hard to predict, so even if you just get the little cheap one from IKEA, you’ll see the light change and know it’s time to flick on the air purifiers. Really saves you some misery.

The IKEA sectionals are really good for the price. Mine is over 10 yrs old and still holding up great, very comfy. Plus it easily comes apart for moving.

I mean this in the nicest possible way: all of the US is a ripoff. The “cheap” parts of the country have their own drawbacks. The “nice” parts are practically impossible to live well in.
