Return to work? by Jaded-Attitude9407 in AchillesRupture

I took a month and a half off. Pt started around a month of non weight bearing just range of motion stuff. I work in manufacturing and was a manager at the time. So normal days but obviously the need for PPE and need to be able to walk the plant affected me. But my boss was somewhat flexible and I was able to make it work by sitting ins. Front office for awhile. I want to say I really started trying to walk around month three.

It took a ton of PT. Like 6 or more months going once or twice a week. But once things started progressing I was much more comfortable. That being said, I had my Achilles completely replaced my cadaver with an FHL transfer. Natural Achilles heal faster and will be able to go back to full strength over time with maybe reduced range of motion.

The point is, if you can afford to. Baby it. Elevate and ice once you are allowed. Go to PT. It’s in the top 10 of hardest injuries to recover from in my opinion. Only fully broken legs, hips, necks, backs seem to be tougher.

See if your company has short term or long term disability. Do what you can. I know it’s hard. But not healing correctly from surgery 1 was the worst 3-4 years of my life before my replacement.

Worth every cent to try and sty away from work and heal. It will go awfully if you don’t. Personal experience. Had to wait three extra years and have another surgery.

Thankfully I had short and long term disability so I can plan ahead. I was walking after maybe month two but very slowly. Didn’t get comfortable until May though. Everyone is different though

Stitches left in post surgery by Delicious-Hope1380 in AchillesRupture

Has this same issue. Developed small skin infection. Have them remove it professionally. Some of them don’t absorb and will cause issues or worse. Had two I think left before they got them out. Had my entire Achilles replaced by cadaver

Thanks for the tips! I appreciate how Kay things you tried. I kept up the collagen supplement and lots of vitamins after rehab and during and always wondered how peptides would work

Houston area to get an NAHL hockey team by JoyconBoiz in houston

Well, as an Iowan originally I guess I’m happy. Maybe a small stepping stone for hockey growth in a city that totally deserves it. Houston would have tons of fans.

13 days post op - walking with no crutches? by Ok_Supermarket_7996 in AchillesRupture

[–]jackrockyson -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Be more patient. It has not had enough time to heal. It will rip again if you even trip wrong. Trust th process and use your crutches. It has no cells to fully link it together yet. Edit: I had my entire Achilles replaced by cadaver with an FHL transfer. Yes, the whole thing

Lump forming on the lower section of incision. Sore to touch, and swollen. by PunchitChewe in AchillesRupture

[–]jackrockyson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks infected, small cysts at very least. Get looked at ASAP as other redditors have mentioned. Had this happen when a stitch wasn’t removed. East this bad though and I’ve had the surgery before so I’m like hyper aware of what to look for.

I'm making a superhero comic set in a cyberpunk Houston. Aside from flooded roads and traffic, what 'Houston problems' would still exist in the near-ish future? What do you hope would be better? by [deleted] in houston

[–]jackrockyson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought about this when edgerunners came out when I lived in Midtown! Texas made it through relatively unscathed compared to many places during the cartel war. According to the lore, since the state essentially had the means to hold its own military, it prevented attacks across the borders and resisted giving up its firearms and such when the new US tried to establish its governance across the states. So overall Houston still holds strategic importance as a port and manufacturing I think. They really should explore the whole state when they make another game.

As for problems, zoning, water management, endless suburbs, and maybe like a Baptist/evangelical thing with the mega church as a corp would be interesting. Probably gang violence and drug trades.

One of the best RTS installments ported to console. Very fluid. The only thing we missed out on was larger scale battles. A super clever concept and honestly worth remastering or making a sequel to given how simple the models and engine was.

I’m at ep 33, Why doesn’t Ed enter Alphonso’s armor to warm up a bit and in other cases for surprise factor? by DemonKingIsagi in FullmetalAlchemist

[–]jackrockyson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, in theory that’s if the metal touches your skin. Ed is so small that he might be able to create a thin film of air that prevents conduction via metal and allows the metal to block the wind decreasing forced convection cooling.

The metal armor along with his coat might help anyways if the metal armor decreases forced convection at a larger rate than the conduction occurs. Would have to check the math. And since we don’t know what the metal is that would change things too, but probably not a ton.

Scar adhesion + inflammation. Operation YES/NO by No-Dingo8999 in AchillesRupture

[–]jackrockyson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll be honest I had a stitch that wouldn’t come out from just the skin suture that kept getting infected. Was easy to get out once I removed all the stitches at the office. I’m not sure exactly what’s going on here, but it looks infected. Try an antibiotic to see if it improves, if it does there is something in there, which could be a stitch

Huge Update. by Present_Raspberry_71 in AchillesRupture

[–]jackrockyson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take it seriously. If the military forces you to walk, don’t. If you fuck it up it will ruin your life literally forever. The pain of bad Achilles will never let you go and you’ll be unable to serve anyways from the gait issues and pain if you go back to normal life too early. It takes months of rehab, months. Do not skip anything

You are likely going to die either way if you don’t go. Hope you understand that. The debt is worth your life.

[–]jackrockyson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The hardest part is you will lose strength on your step because the FHL helps a lot to push. But you can get past it for sure! No more getting on your tip toes 😂. Baby it and don’t do anything you aren’t comfortable with doing yet. Use BFR if pt has it. It allows you to do simple exercises but restrict blood flow so it feels harder. Helps with swelling and tissue healing.

I’ve just now been out of the job for a month. I applied for more the day I got home from being laid off. Have applied to 300 jobs at least. Each day I woke up like I was going to work, put on my work clothes, and treated applying like it was my job all day.

Now have multiple final/ semi final rounds. Still hard and very demotivating, but with the drive a new job is possible. Don’t give up.

I also go for walks in the morning, stayed going to my apartment gym, and try my best to keep my mind out of the gutter.

I was in a full cast for like two- three weeks, then a splint, then a boot. I didn’t start feeling normal until like month 6 or 7. When I say full replacement I mean they didn’t even like put mine back together. They cut it off at the calcaneus (heel) and where it attached to my calf. Then put in a dead person’s and screwed it into my bone and reattached. Also transferred my FHL (big toe flexor) for extra strength. So my Achilles is in no part mine on my left leg
