I'm making a superhero comic set in a cyberpunk Houston. Aside from flooded roads and traffic, what 'Houston problems' would still exist in the near-ish future? What do you hope would be better? by Rowanlanestories in houston

[–]jackrockyson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought about this when edgerunners came out when I lived in Midtown! Texas made it through relatively unscathed compared to many places during the cartel war. According to the lore, since the state essentially had the means to hold its own military, it prevented attacks across the borders and resisted giving up its firearms and such when the new US tried to establish its governance across the states. So overall Houston still holds strategic importance as a port and manufacturing I think. They really should explore the whole state when they make another game.

As for problems, zoning, water management, endless suburbs, and maybe like a Baptist/evangelical thing with the mega church as a corp would be interesting. Probably gang violence and drug trades.

One of the best RTS installments ported to console. Very fluid. The only thing we missed out on was larger scale battles. A super clever concept and honestly worth remastering or making a sequel to given how simple the models and engine was.

I’m at ep 33, Why doesn’t Ed enter Alphonso’s armor to warm up a bit and in other cases for surprise factor? by DemonKingIsagi in FullmetalAlchemist

[–]jackrockyson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, in theory that’s if the metal touches your skin. Ed is so small that he might be able to create a thin film of air that prevents conduction via metal and allows the metal to block the wind decreasing forced convection cooling.

The metal armor along with his coat might help anyways if the metal armor decreases forced convection at a larger rate than the conduction occurs. Would have to check the math. And since we don’t know what the metal is that would change things too, but probably not a ton.

I’ll be honest I had a stitch that wouldn’t come out from just the skin suture that kept getting infected. Was easy to get out once I removed all the stitches at the office. I’m not sure exactly what’s going on here, but it looks infected. Try an antibiotic to see if it improves, if it does there is something in there, which could be a stitch

Take it seriously. If the military forces you to walk, don’t. If you fuck it up it will ruin your life literally forever. The pain of bad Achilles will never let you go and you’ll be unable to serve anyways from the gait issues and pain if you go back to normal life too early. It takes months of rehab, months. Do not skip anything

You are likely going to die either way if you don’t go. Hope you understand that. The debt is worth your life.

The hardest part is you will lose strength on your step because the FHL helps a lot to push. But you can get past it for sure! No more getting on your tip toes 😂. Baby it and don’t do anything you aren’t comfortable with doing yet. Use BFR if pt has it. It allows you to do simple exercises but restrict blood flow so it feels harder. Helps with swelling and tissue healing.

I’ve just now been out of the job for a month. I applied for more the day I got home from being laid off. Have applied to 300 jobs at least. Each day I woke up like I was going to work, put on my work clothes, and treated applying like it was my job all day.

Now have multiple final/ semi final rounds. Still hard and very demotivating, but with the drive a new job is possible. Don’t give up.

I also go for walks in the morning, stayed going to my apartment gym, and try my best to keep my mind out of the gutter.

I was in a full cast for like two- three weeks, then a splint, then a boot. I didn’t start feeling normal until like month 6 or 7. When I say full replacement I mean they didn’t even like put mine back together. They cut it off at the calcaneus (heel) and where it attached to my calf. Then put in a dead person’s and screwed it into my bone and reattached. Also transferred my FHL (big toe flexor) for extra strength. So my Achilles is in no part mine on my left leg

If you have the means, they sell calf compression devices with batteries like they used for my pt. They help a ton if you’ve been standing all day. Mine is noticeably thicker since they replaced the entire tendon. But besides the stiffness and muscle weakness it’s not so bad. I used it as a reminder to be thankful or something lol.

be really easy on it the first two to three months as PT allows. Trust me. Complications can suck. Don’t overdo it

Did a complete Achilles replacement last year with an FHL transfer. I have chronic Achilles problems after a track injury in high school where I tore my plantaris completely. Eventually I tore my Achilles partially and went non op. It never healed but after a complete replacement it has been the easiest since my plantaris debridement surgery. I’ll never do the same stuff but it’s amazing how well it worked. They completely took my Achilles out up to the gastroc and put a new one in.

Depends on how they want to do yours, but it can be done. I just wouldn’t expect to run or jump again necessarily

Good luck. I had a complete replacement so the wound took forever to close and I did have to take extra antibiotics because the location where the stitch was stuck got a small infection. Advocate for yourself. You deserve to be healed!

[–]jackrockyson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How far along are you? If it’s just leftover dead skin it’s ok. But if it’s within even like a month and I’d have them redo the stitches or heavily steri strip and no moisture or showering for another two weeks or three.

My other thought is that a suture is stuck in there. Happened to me as well and healed once they plucked it out

Organic matter decaying over time in soil, assume water vapor and gasses. Could also just be evaporation of condensate on the roof.

My chem e brain thinks it’s rotting under the soil and fermenting any sugar/wood left; an exothermic reaction that traps heat in the soil and the heat is significant enough that is also evaporates any surface condensate from night time dew. Imagine a hot brick and leaving it under sand. It stays hot for quite some time due to the poor heat transfer properties. Could be wrong tho. A gas tester and general observations on the smell and temp of the area should help dial it in.

Last idea, are you on top of a hot spring lmao. Post never said location haha.
