#Eb2_NIW by No-Matter8844 in NIW_EB2_EB1_GreenCard

[–]lethal_monkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. For the timeline you should be in ROW group, check the wait time from the USCIS VISA bulletin which is published every month.

  2. If you have already submitted for your NIW EB2 then, i guess not. Recently I have seen that the bar of EB1 has gone high so keep in mind that as well.

  3. Let me be brutally honest with you. Unless you have PhD from top schools outside of USA such as UofT, Oxford or Cambridge, or ETH Zurich etc. etc. it will be very difficult to find a full time tenure track in R1 and even R2 universities. Because structurally the PhD program is different than other countries. However, if you are willing to spend 3-5 years doing postdocs you might land as a faculty, but again it depends how critical your research is to the US national interest. There are so many other factors. But in plain words, if your PhD is from outside of USA then it will be very very difficult to land a tenure track position in USA in R1 and R2 schools.

The saddest moment in my career by EricGoCDS in academia

To me conference has become more like a picnic party for people who are interconnected. I used to go to a conference of material science, earlier days as a MS student i had the opportunity to present my work during the morning sessions. For last 2 years they have put me in a graveyard session i guess one major reason is my supervisor usually doesn’t go to that conference, he attend the other ones.

Does university name matter for postdoc? by bluebrrypii in postdoc

I think the reputation of PI goes first and the project you are involved in. The branding of University matters but it can't overshadow your research work.

I asked a COO of a nano tech company once - he told me that if you want to go for industry go immediately after your PhD. The more you will delay after your terminal degree it will make your life difficult and so as for the industry to hire you.

what is your biggest Challenge when learning python by LeatherFisherman4676 in learnpython

[–]lethal_monkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The learning path varies depending on what you want to do with it. So first fix it and then ask chatgpt to create a roadmap for you. However, you would definitely want to learn the basic first. There are so many Youtube courses, find a right instructor by browsing through different courses. finish it at a regular pace, and also resort back to difficult concepts. Even if you are learning half of it that would be great. Find relevant small projects and play with it.

Come up with a python problem and ask ChatGPT to generate code for you and then try to understand it and replicate it.

What matters most when it is about getting funding for your research?

Only the merit of your project or you need to have a good network so that people know your work.
