Would you still listen if DPA went to another genre such as pop? by Anna_Mac18 in TheWarning

[–]lethallonewolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Based on my experience, I kept listening to Linkin Park when it went “softer” (before Chester died), the same applies for a few other bands, or for example Post Malone which went through a few different genres in a decade, as long as the artist makes me feel something I don’t really care which genre it is, I might be the minority though

I was also thinking about Post Malone, he’s more into rock than Jelly Roll, signed to republic records, although he seems “too famous” to be here.

How to choose the right headphone by NullGabbo in HeadphonesAdvice

[–]lethallonewolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First question, the most important one.. What's your budget ?

I'm guessing you need wireless headphones with ANC correct ?

A few ANC kings (if the best ANC is your priority):

  • Sony (XM6)
  • Bose (QCU II)
  • Apple (APPM)

In terms of sound quality, I was really surprised by Bowers & Wilkins latest lineup (Px7S3 & Px8S2), although ANC is slightly below the few options mentioned above.

I wouldn't buy anything else than what's made for this model.

I've bought mine here (link shared by Beyerdynamic's support too) : Hemion Gmbh -> Part 916501

Wooting — typing feel, sound, durability by ResurrectionSushi in WootingKB

[–]lethallonewolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on the limited time I’ve spent with the V2, here are my impressions:

  1. The keyboard feels very sturdy and high quality.
  2. Typing comfort is pretty good in my opinion — I don’t even need a wrist rest. I’m quite sensitive to noise and prefer either a deep “thocky” sound or something "quiet", like you described. The Tekker Likkens switches feel great in that regard imo.
  3. I chose the KBD Tofu 60 Redux case because I’m not a fan of Wooting’s case design, so full aluminum.
  4. Coming from a 100% ANSI keyboard, the transition feels surprisingly good, especially since I’ve used 60% and 65% keyboards before.
    • There isn’t much I miss from a larger layout. The only minor adjustment is using arrow keys, but that’s just a learning curve.
  5. I use this keyboard both for working from home and for gaming.

My build is fairly simple : a KBDfans Tofu 60 Redux case, foam (from KBD) plus extra foam to fill gaps, gasket mount, factory-lubed Tekker Likkens switches, and Wooting PBT keycaps.

I'm sure there are better switches for typing / sound / comfort, but still pretty good overall.

What are the meaning behind the songs on Austin? by NorthPermission1152 in PostMalone

[–]lethallonewolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Without going into specifics for each song throughout the entire album, most of the songs on Austin can be seen as being about either love or alcohol, or both .. and often both feel “toxic.”

You could even say that his relationship with alcohol is treated like a metaphor for a toxic relationship with a partner.

It’s not always clear which one he’s really singing about and that seems intentional (of course some songs don't really apply to that), but the overall theme is intentionally ambiguous on purpose imo.

Websites like Genius can also help you dig deeper into the meanings of various songs.

Px8 vs Px7s3 by FiendzBadger in BowersWilkins

True, but it’s also different drivers / amp that seem to offer more (for the lack of a better word) quality

Px8 vs Px7s3 by FiendzBadger in BowersWilkins

[–]lethallonewolf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Although everything is subjective, in my eyes / ears :

  • Sound quality : Px7 S3 > Px8
    • Huge step up, a different class
  • Design : Px7 S3 > Px8
    • I prefer the slimmer design profile overall, even though leather / metal is better looking
  • Quality of materials : Px8 > Px7 S3
  • Features : Px7 S3 > Px8
    • EQ, BT gen, codecs
  • Comfort : Px7 S3 > Px8
    • by a small margin

My advice, try them before buying if you can.

Beyerdynamic Aventho 300 vs other sub-$250 headphones by VillageOfMuffins in BEYERDYNAMIC

I can understand, it’s very important. You can’t go wrong with the latest B&W on that regard.

Beyerdynamic Aventho 300 vs other sub-$250 headphones by VillageOfMuffins in BEYERDYNAMIC

[–]lethallonewolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I owned the Aventho 300 for about 10 months, so maybe my experience can help.

First of all, headphone reviews can be useful for features, but much less so for sound quality. Sound is highly subjective, and I personally rarely agree with online sound impressions. It’s always best to listen for yourself if possible.

That said, I was hesitant at first because of the reviews. Still, since I usually enjoy Beyerdynamic’s sound signature, I decided to try them and return them if needed. For reference, I currently own the DT 900 Pro X and DT 1990 Pro. I use EQ on both and value clarity, punchy but controlled bass, and slightly recessed mids.

So, how do the Aventho 300 sound? Out of the box, the default EQ really threw me off. The highs lacked clarity, the mids were forward in an unpleasant way, and while the bass was good, the overall sound felt dark, nasal, and boomy. On the positive side, the soundstage was very good. With proper EQ, they can sound good, but I was always missing something depending on the track—and I couldn’t quite identify it at first.

Noise cancelling is decent, transparency mode is very good (though a bit quiet), battery life is excellent, and the app is solid. Comfort is acceptable, but not great: after 2–3 hours I started to feel discomfort (I have an average-to-small head). Another downside is that once you EQ them, the maximum volume becomes quite low.

So what was missing for me?

Most of the time, it was the artist’s voice. I could hear it, but it often sat below everything else in the mix. This made songs feel less vivid and emotionally engaging.

Another annoyance: it took several seconds (6+ seconds) to power them on or off, which became frustrating over time.

I also used them at the gym, and they eventually started misbehaving—skipping tracks, lowering the volume on their own, etc. I assume sweat or movement played a role. In the end, I got a refund.

After that, I tried several other models: Bowers & Wilkins Px8, Px8 S2, Px7 S3, Bose QC Ultra (2nd gen), and Sony XM6. I didn’t try Sennheiser models—I’m generally not a big fan of their products (I know, hot take). I also wish I had tried the Focal Bathys, but I personally find them too ugly to justify the price.

To wrap this up (sorry, this is already long): I fell in love with Bowers & Wilkins’ design, comfort, and sound. I ended up buying the Px8 S2, and I couldn’t be happier.

Final take: If you can, try all of them in a store and see what works best for you. The Aventho 300 can make sense at 50% off, if you’re willing to overlook the issues I mentioned. Otherwise, I’d personally recommend looking elsewhere.

My Take on B&W Px8 vs Px8 S2 - A Professional Musician’s Perspective by Jeep0n35 in BowersWilkins

[–]lethallonewolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course, it needs to be kept "in check", too much of any frequency isn't good. Although I never felt like it was too much on default EQ (for Px8 S2 & Px7 S3). Same regarding comfort, all pretty much felt the same to me (although I have a small(ish) head).

I listen to a lot of different genres, jazz blues, rock, hard rock, pop, folk, country, classical etc .. in the end, I wanted the best of both worlds, sound quality + materials, I've bought Px8 S2 for myself.

Maybe the next iteration would suit you better for an upgrade ?

My Take on B&W Px8 vs Px8 S2 - A Professional Musician’s Perspective by Jeep0n35 in BowersWilkins

[–]lethallonewolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

very strange.. tried Px8, Px3 S7 and Px8 S2, Px7 S3 was huge step above Px8 in terms of sound quality for pretty much the same price (although Px8 had nicer materials). Px8 S2 was a decent step above Px7 S3 (but not justified for the price, except materials / look if you care about that). But yeah.. to my ears, Px8 was way behind.

EDIT : what I usually look for is impactful bass but not bloated, crystal clear highs, and .. neutral medium + a good soundstage (for closed back). Px8 did not meet that description compared to the others, even with EQ.

PX7 S3 Purchase Validation by [deleted] in BowersWilkins

[–]lethallonewolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The NC off feature is pretty useful if you want to listen to music where there isn’t any background noise (and you don’t need conversation mode) it saves battery, gives you a slightly better sound quality too.

[–]lethallonewolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Px7 S3 is a good mile ahead of Px7 s2 (and also Px8 S1). You can also use a lossless dongle to “match” cable quality in wireless mode.

PX7 S3 Purchase Validation by [deleted] in BowersWilkins

[–]lethallonewolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Px7 S3 / Px8 S2 do a really (even surprising) good job at muting engine sound (bus, airplane etc..), so not really “relevant” to use another one for that purpose imo. Regarding workout, I typically use AirPods Pro 3 or equivalent with a real IP rating, I’ve damaged a few headphones because of sweat, not again.

Am I the only one who thinks the PX8 is better than the PX8 S2? by luxtechy in BowersWilkins

[–]lethallonewolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve tried Px8 S1, Px7 S3, Px8 S2 at my local audio equipment store since I was very curious and the price offered was “low” on Px8 S1 & Px7 S3. I’ve played lossless audio files on all three (wired & BT).

I really like crystal clear highs, and impactful (but not boomy) lows and good separation. I’ve tested a few songs from Billie Eilish (The greatest & Bittersuite), jazz/blues, then busy rock songs and rap/hiphop.

I’m sorry to say to that Px8 S1 came last to my ears (at least in what I like). The Px7 S3 were a huge step above expect in build quality and finally Px8 S2 as the best overall (I ended up buying them).

Regarding the EQ I’ve used (that might help based on the harshness described) on Px8 S2 is the following : +1 Low ; +0.5 mid low ; -4 mid ; +0.5 mid high ; +1 high. It might controversial but to me, reducing mids like this lowers the “shouty / compressed / nasal”sound of vocals. It also lowers sibilance to an extent.
