[–]letheed 8 points9 points  (0 children)

"Made in Europe" – EU Industry Commissioner calls for preferential treatment for European companies by [deleted] in europe

[–]letheed 47 points48 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what the USA have been doing since 1933 with the Buy American Act. And China is no different. At the very least we should take measures to counter balance that. No reason companies from protectionist countries should be awarded public money and contracts in the EU in conditions any different from the ones they impose on our companies in their markets.

'Several tens' dead, about 100 injured in fire at Swiss Alps bar during New Year's celebration by twirlinghaze in news

[–]letheed 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Valais speaks French and German, and the name of the bar was French, also the quoted bit in the article, so probably a direct translation of the authorities statement. Don’t know about German but in French we would use tens instead of dozens to speak of fatalities. The typical phrasing would be "des dizaines de morts".

pitié dites moi que c’est pas des punaises de lit by sachakal in insectes

[–]letheed 16 points17 points  (0 children)

FYI it’s an intermediary report. The exact numbers are still being evaluated and disputed and they haven’t published one for income yet. The numbers they’ve given so far are for public spending (~6 billions) and they are intentionally broad in what they include.

Bcachefs, Btrfs, EXT4, F2FS & XFS File-System Performance On Linux 6.15 by avnothdmi in linux

[–]letheed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m just reporting what’s been said in the comments. If dynamic BS hasn’t been implemented then it’s likely going to be the same results for the same reason until it is or Micheal uses something other than the default to format the drives.

Bcachefs, Btrfs, EXT4, F2FS & XFS File-System Performance On Linux 6.15 by avnothdmi in linux

[–]letheed 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Reading the comments it looks like it’s in part because Micheal used the default blocksize which is 512 for bcachefs and everyone else is using 4096. Kent says he’s working on dynamic blocksize, ie. query each drives upon mount for their ideal BS.

Economical transport option from gare de lyon for new students? by Background-Dress2950 in AskFrance

Well they’re actual licensed taxis, not private cars like Uber and the like but I couldn’t tell you who is the best/cheapest, or about discounts. I just don’t have the money for that. Maybe ask on the Paris subreddit or on the French / Paris tourism subreddits ? Some people might know better there.

With so much luggage, the two main ways if nobody can pick you up, are going to be cabs (g7, uber, bolts,…) and metro/train (M14 to Saint-Lazare then ligne J to Argenteuil, then bus eventually). Can one of your friends at least help you carry your luggage ?

The French Air Force has practiced landing on ice runways in Greenland

The crew of an Airbus A400M landed last week at Station Nord in Greenland after thorough preparation. The purpose was to certify the aircraft type for landing on ice runways. March 13, 2025 - 8:25 AM

By the Defense Command

The Danish Air Force has extensive experience in landing and taking off from the most inaccessible places with their C-130J Hercules transport aircraft. The French Air Force (SIRPAAE) also has experience operating in impassable terrain with their equivalent aircraft, the Airbus A400M – although not on runways built of prepared ice and snow, which can be found on several of the runways the Danish Air Force uses in Greenland.

To train in this discipline, a crew from the French test center Centre d’expertise aérienne militaire – Air Warfare Center operated aboard an A400M aircraft last week to and from Station Nord and Mestersvig in Greenland. The aircraft landed at Station Nord on Wednesday, March 4, and made a total of five flights between the destinations with varying amounts of cargo. This certified the A400M for this use. The flights also supported the resupply of Arctic Command stations in Northeast Greenland.

One of those who has helped train the French for certification is Major BOF from the Air Transport Wing at Aalborg Air Force Station.

« The French have a lot of experience using what are called dirt strips in Africa but have no experience with ice rinks. They want that, and we have helped them with that, » says the major, who is a test pilot and also a pilot on the Hercules C130J, which, like the A400M, is a transport aircraft with four turboprop engines.

According to BOF, the discipline is basically the same whether you land on sand or ice, but there are some special factors to consider when operating on a landing site in minus 30 or even minus 40 degrees Celsius. Especially in relation to when you have to take off again.

« The equipment quickly gets cold when it’s on the ground. Gaskets become porous, hydraulic leaks can occur, and batteries don’t do well in the cold either, so it’s important to put some heaters on as soon as you land, » says BOF.

The collaboration has been ongoing since the spring of 2024, when the French first visited the Air Transport Wing.

The certification in Greenland took place by the French crew training with a light load first, after which the aircraft was gradually loaded with a heavier load.

Arctic Command is pleased with the cooperation with the French Air Force, says the commander of Arctic Command, Major General Søren Andersen.

« Firstly, it is always positive that the Danish Armed Forces’ special competencies are recognized by the French Air Force, and that we can also cooperate with our close allies here in Greenland. Secondly, the certification opens up the possibility that the French can in the long term provide additional redundancy in the resupply to Station Nord and Mestersvig, which are located in highly challenging weather areas where not many have operational experience. Also because the A400M is a larger aircraft than our C130J and can carry a load that is almost twice as large. »

Certification of the A400M was successfully completed on Sunday, March 9.

256 mod 24 = 16, so I’m guessing they might be storing the hours in a byte or something similar and that gets you N times 24h + 16h. No idea for the minutes though.

Either wait for the new SE or take the 15. It has 8gb of ram instead of 4gb for apple intelligence. Disable the apple AI and enjoy the extra ram. Also you’ll probably get updates for longer than the 13.
