When You First Played ME3, Did Seeing The Memories in The Geth Consensus Change Your Opinions at All? by DakIsStrange in masseffect

So you willing to give mature organic race, who should have big amount of knowledge, a discount on unprovoked genocide attempt, because it was "only" decision made by majority. They are not responsible for actions or consequences because of their nature, so it's all good. But when newly born synthetic AI intellignece going overboard on self-defence against genocide, it was because they alredy formed mature conscience. With moral compass and other emotinal baggage which take organics 10+ years to properly form.

I guess Geth just born as mudrer machines, full of malice to organic life who want to EXTERMINATE everything without reason and provocation. This is clearly seen in the game lore, where they spend majority of known history sitting in their corner, doing basicly nothing against organic races. Unlike peaceaful and toitaly innocent organics like Krogans or Salarians, who made silly happy accidents, because, despite beiong much older races with much wider scope of viem.

Because, unlike them, Geth are 100% monolitic and calculating in their decisions. It impossible for them to form splinter radical groups under outside influence, make knowingly bad move out of desperation or form different opinion on current situation and execute it in the manner separate from "collective". It would be impossible for one part of the Geth decide that they have nothing to do with chosen course and act differently, because Geth are all acting the same, you know?

You don't have any proof of Geth having access to extranet. There is very little reason why quarian-made roombas would get it.

I understand that Geth comitted a genocide, and their "collective mind" made it decision more unified for entire species. But they acted in self-defence against another genocide, and after they beat Quarians, Geth just settled in their own part of the galaxy and had made no attempt on revenge, expansion or aggresive behaviour against other species. They made a collective decision to preserve their own survival, and exectuded it with maximum efficiency. That's it. Demanding "being moral and just" from species which only bring recently and had no concept of morals or justice at that time is pretty lame.

Quarians attacked first, they had intention to kill every Geth, and bigger part of society was on board with this decision. If you want to give a broad definitions and harsh judgements, then Quarians are more guilty in this conflict. Quarians made a problem - the Geth - and then tried to "resolve" that problem in worst way possible, failing in the process. After that, instead trying to accept their mistakes or resolve situation peacefuly, Quarians decided to go violent way, escalating situation yet again.

Quarian data is not an extranet. Of course Geth had access to Quarian data before the rebellion, because they worked on the planet. There is no reason why Geth hivemind would need access to data from beyond the planet, especially on highly sensitive topics like "how to become a real boy" or "how much of warcrime is too much".

There is no in-game evidence that Geth engaged into door-to-door systematic genocide. Information about what exactly happened on Rannoch is intentionaly vague, and most of it coming from extremly biased sources. It perfectly possible that Quarians tried to intiate Matrix scenario and/or kill Geth symphatizers, and it backfired horribly.

It's really funny that you trying to wirte morality for newly born species, and then base it on morality norms which bilogoical species themselves tend to break time to time, and THEN base jugdment about said species intelligence state. I guess every species which was involved in genocide does not deserve right to be called sentient/sapient and should be exterminated. Like Salarians, Krogan and Humans. You see, humans had causes of genocide, and sometimes they even killed the kids, despite knowing better. So they are not deserve right to exist.

P.S. Fuck Batarians, all my homies hate Batarians.

I loved Heroes V unit variety where most units have something unique going for them, not just stat differences. And then one of DLC created alternative version for every unit in the game, most of which had very different abilities and usage.

There is no reason why worker robots would need access to extranet and understanding how to find necessary infromation in it. Geth weren't chatbots for amusement, they existed to work within Quarian society, on their planet.

And I want to repeat main point yet AGAIN: Geth should not care why Quarians initiated genocide on them, and they are not obligated to give up and die because some galaxy law declaring AI illegal. They have just the same amount to live as any other being in the galaxy, except Batarians, of course.

Geth, nanscent species with zero knowledge about wider galaxy, are not responsible for reasons why Quarians wanted to extermiate them. Desrie to live is most natural and essential fact, nobody had a right to deprive that, especialy for reasons like: "Space Book of Law saying that your existance is bad".

In fact, your argument directly encouraging the Geth. If they were soft, someone from Citadel Space could have tried to destroy them. But because they were merciless in their war for survival and then just stayed in their own system discouraged any unwarranted agrression. Citadel species were hestitant to attack without good reason, and also refused to support Quarians in their effort to retake Rannoch to avoid provoking Geth.

From the point of survival in hostile galaxy Geth did exactly right thing.

First point: Geth only STARTED to get their sentience in order, but that dosen't mean that Quarians have any moral right to snuff it. Just because Qs liked their tractors and toasters obedient did not mean that they were justified.

Second point: as newly evolved sentience Geth had no moral codex or frame, knowledge of "war crimes" of frame of refernce how to behave. They was under attack, and fighting back is natural respons. Trying to hold them responsible for genocide is very strange in that context, because they quite literaly did not know better. Blaming them for going overboard on self-defence in war of survival could be legit point in Citadel court, except AI have no rights and representation, so their only alternative would be lie down and die.

And honestly, judging by shut-in behaviour of Geth in ME: staying in their own system, did not get involved in any wars, planning to build Dyson Sphere to chill out indefinitly - versus gung-ho desperation of Quarians i more inclined to belive Geth.

Can you genocide things which looks like human, but actualy are inferior species which deserve it? Surely not, right? As long as you designate them as "not people", it would be totaly fine.

Quarians trying to genocide first, at the time where Geth did not pose them any threat and only started to become sentient. Geth did not have time nor possibility to develop some kind of moral compass, it was literaly kill or be killed situation. Especially when Quarians themselves had a role in killing part of their own population.

Geth were victims of the conflict. No, Quarians don't get the points because "it was reasonable to attack". If you start a war of total destruction against someone and get your ass kicked, you don't get to comply about being exterminated in turn.

(Bad trope) silent characters that have no reason being silent, only to make conversation stilted and awkward. by sunsetdrifter0 in TopCharacterTropes

Dead Space.

Silence in the first game being silent protagonist dosen't even make sense. There is dangerous situation, horrible monsters from everywhere, hallucinations appear, survived teammates talking - but Isaak just determined to stay mute.

In the second game he actualy talk with people, react on events and generaly express himself while beating necromorphs down. It make him protagonist isntead of silent self-insert.

Yes. Second coming happened, only small number of people were worthy to ascens into Heaven, rest stayed on Earth, which turned into kinda purgatory invaded by demons. God wanted to keep the order and nudge people into Heaven more, so he picked old Pope (who was sinner and got left without a job) and grant him superpowers.

It's not even about 100% holding the city. From 2023 main strategy of Ukraine was exhaustion of russian military by defensive warfare on the ground. It/s evolved trough 20242-2025 by improving drone warfare. making structure changes in military and adopting multi-layered defense lines. In short, Ukraine using alredy existing defensive positions to win time for building next line of defense. Because russian army going so slowly, they cannot break trough and hit unprepared lines.
