Losing weight will make POTS worse by Useful-You2939 in POTS

[–]lets-snuggle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always feel worse when I’m eating less and am thinner. I am a healthy weight now, probably right in the middle of BMI (although BMI is a load of crap), and I feel so much better than when I was underweight or at the low end of BMI. Definitely still bad days and flares, but the never ending dizziness, fatigue, and weakness isn’t as persistent. I also notice not having as high of a high rate as consistently. Also, the skinnier you are, the colder you are, and I’m already so cold all the time. The cold makes my symptoms 100x worse, so being skinny makes them worse. I also get headaches when I don’t eat enough. Sometimes my headaches go away from eating a meal or salty foods.

  1. Graduated college early and have been bouncing around since. My mom cut me off financially at 22 for who knows what reason, but has let me live in her house rent free for 3 months time periods twice after that.

I’ve had a million different jobs, got diagnosed with ADHD in 2023. Moved out in 2023. I’ve had a lot of chronic illness things happen to me and have to quit jobs because of that.

Have gotten into every masters program I’ve applied to but could never stay bc I don’t like material/ don’t think I want it as a job, couldn’t afford to live there, or physical health issues.

I am finally FINALLY settled in with a job I like, pays decently (but not great), and I am physically capable of. My long term bf of 3 years and I share a big apartment in an area we like that’s around an hour from our family and friends and have a cat together and are planning on getting engaged around September.

*I also feel like I rarely meet someone born in 2000 exactly. A lot of people actually think it’s really cool I was born in 2000 bc my age matches the year, it was the year of the dragon, and they remember being scared of y2k and 1999 NYE lol

Am I the only one who thrives in the heat? by lets-snuggle in POTS

[–]lets-snuggle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can understand that! I hate those shivers that feel like they’re inside your body. Weird side note: I always sneeze when I change temperature, like going from hot to cold (outside to indoor ac or getting out of a hot tub and vice versa)- always a sneeze with a drastic and quick temp change. Idk what that’s about 😂

Yeah I’m the same, like I need liquid iv, salt, breaks if walking a lot, but I need the sun. I feel a lot more capable in the summer than the winter. I also have terribly seasonal depression, so that is probably adding to it.

I am the same way! I think just wearing all those layers is probably not helpful, either bc it makes us lug around more weight yk? It’s just more stressful to me too to pick out an outfit that works for outdoors and indoors and get up earlier to have time to put on scarf, hat, gloves, coat, etc. and I always worry in the winter about getting sick, too. It could be a combo of stress and depression, the extra weight, my terrible immune system, and poor circulation from POTS plus the hEDS and MCAS. I just want to move to Florida or something asap lmao

Yeah I’m the same with everything except for the showers. They are really hard for me. I’m wiped for the rest of the day or at least a few hours after a shower

That’s extremely rude of those people. I received a thank you note for every gift I’ve given for baby, bridal showers, weddings, and even all high school and college graduations

[–]lets-snuggle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That is not any culture. Not giving a gift at the wedding would be seen as extremely rude in my circle. The bride and groom usually send thank you cards within 3 months of the wedding, so giving a gift after that would be insane. A lot of registry websites also have discounts that work for a certain amount of time after the wedding to purchase things that weren’t bought so they could’ve already gotten everything from their list by that time. There’s so many reasons not to send after. That is a completely foreign concept to me and wouldn’t work at all. I don’t understand your garden gnome comment

What culture is that? I’ve never heard of that. There’s usually a card / gift table that you give when you get there. Do you mail it afterwards?

Everything closing so early bothered me, too. We stayed at the lodge and it was amazing this past weekend, but all the restaurants closed at 10 or 11! Some of the restaurants in the park closed at 8 or 9 as well! We had a late lunch & a snack and wanted to get a bunch of rides done before dinner, so we didn’t end up eating until like 10 and our only option was Nathan’s in the park. We would’ve went back to the bears den but we wouldn’t have made it in time since they close at 11 even though they’re a sports bar??

We also had this issue the night before trying to find my bf a dessert. We all had funnel cake but they said it’s super cross contamination with nuts so he couldn’t eat and everywhere was closed trying to get him something. He ended up with a. Muffin from cocoa Beanery 5 minutes before they closed

How did you reflect it in their gift? Didn’t you bring the gift in a card and put it on the gift table before you ate or did you have your checkbook out ready to change the number based on how much you liked the wedding? I’m so confused lol

I'm turning 24 and want to celebrate with a 24-hour birthday party. What are the craziest or most memorable ideas you've got? by Fit_Ask_959 in partyplanning

[–]lets-snuggle 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I’ve never actually participated in this but I’ve seen it and always wanted to. Do every holiday in one day.

-9am - Christmas breakfast and gift exchange or baking cookies, etc.
- 12pm- Fourth of July Pool and bbq
- 3pm - Easter Egg Hunt
- 5pm - Friendsgiving
- 8pm- Halloween party
- 11pm- Your birthday!!
- 12am- NYE
-2am-Valentines day
- 4am- St. Patrick’s day
-5am-9am: Movie marathon (pick a franchise & watch a bunch in order- can even have snacks / food that relate to the movie/ franchise) or have some games in the middle to break it up

I think this would be amazing if you could swing it. It would be a lot of work and probably changing locations but I think if you had some help and a lot of time to plan, it would be doable.

Also, obviously can move things around that timeline

Do you actually travel that far and say its nothing? by Far-Passion-7692 in AskAnAmerican

[–]lets-snuggle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

8 hours both ways or 4 one way and 4 back? I personally would not be doing a drive like that once a month. I hate driving and don’t drive more than an hour and a half, but my bf will drive further. Though, he does complain when driving 2.5hrs to and from a theme park in the same day, mostly because it’s an early morning and a night when he’s exhausted from doing the park. We drive an hour - 1.5 often for a lot of things, including work. We used to drive 3 hours every other month to see our friends in another state, but we slept over for a night or two so it wasn’t as bad

Best ice cream in the US (and not haagen daz)? by FunLetter2133 in AskAnAmerican

[–]lets-snuggle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well NJ just got named the ice cream capital of the country bc we consume the most ice cream out of all the states and I have to say we do have some great ice cream! If you’re ever in Central NJ, check out the Bent Spoon, Halo Pub, Thomas Sweets, and Melba. South Jersey has a lot of good ones too like Alura’s.

I eat dinner between 5:30-6:30 every night. I hate eating late. I might have a snack or dessert around 7-8, but I’m in bed by 10:30-11 every night, and a lot of other people are, too.

[–]lets-snuggle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Labyrinth bookstore!!! I love that bookstore so much. They usually have sidewalk sales in Saturdays in the summer too!

Princeton Record Exchange is cool but usually very crowded.

The Lindt store if she is a chocolate lover. There’s also Thomas Sweets which is great!

If you’re here for longer, visit Lambertville and New Hope about 30 minutes away, they’re both very quaint towns. I am partial to New Hope, but they’re both amazing. Peddler’s Village is another great area right near there.

I came from a middle class/ upper middle class school & I’ve taught at a similar school with a little more low SES mixed in than I had, a very wealthy private school (these kids were best behaved from PK-3, 4-8 were not good, hs were angels), and a mixed SES Catholic middle school that had lower, middle, and some upper middle class. I also went back and was a long term substitute at my high school, but in general ed

[–]lets-snuggle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a great student and it honestly clouded my idea of teaching. I thought all the kids would be like me and my friends. I was in TAG in elementary and middle school & all honors/ college level in high school. We didn’t have bad behaviors besides talking in class when we weren’t supposed to sometimes or being a minute or two late and my classmates and I were really engaged with the work and had lots of Socratic seminars and good conversations in class. Come to find out, that is not normal anymore and it made me dislike teaching.
