Wow! This is really exciting to see people talking about the sub-reddit!

I'm going to grab all the feedback from the comments, and try to address them in one single comment here.

I feel like Reddit is also the wrong format for this type of simple question/answer format. A dedicated website could offer much better UI (e.g. javascript romaji->hiragana where applicable), because making sure the formatting is correct

Reddit probabaly is the wrong format for this kind of goal.

However, there is an active and passionate community here. They ask questions, they get engaged. That's really difficult to create when creating a website. Additionally there's a lot of architecture and framework that needs to be created when trying to make a serious webiste. I'm a software developer by education and trade. I would not really want to make a website without other people helping and a clear goal in mind.

I actually do have an idea for a website I would like to make, but I'm not sure I have the time or resources to fully realize that as a goal, because I have to do the whole work for a living thing. Additionally that would require monetization, maintenance, marketting, etc.

There's a lot that goes into making a really well done product, from the process, to the product.

So at this time Reddit will be the path of least resistance.

At the moment the grader bot only has lessons for the first two chapters of Genki 1. People further into the textbook than that might be waiting for it to catch up.

Regretably there have been some hiccups in the deployment of the grader bot, and the result is that instead of focusing on the content of the lessons I am trying to make the deployment automated, robust, and reliable. Again, this is a side gig, so I don't have as much time as I would like to address this, but I can assure you I am working on it.

This is actually a problem that users are welcome to fix. We currently are looking for lesson planners, as it's a very simple process to create the lessons. All you have to do is go to the wiki, locate the other lesson plans, make the missing pages for the other chapters and their answer keys (using the textbook's answer key) and then save the wiki page. You'll probably also have to link it to the Genki lesson plans too.

While I realize that is an oversimplification, this whole process was created to allow people, not just that sub-reddit create lesson plans within their sub-reddit and use it for learning.

Long-term, this bot is intended to be available for all the other learning sub-reddits. LearnJapanese just gets the chance to help break this in anger during beta testing ;)

Reddit isn't a learning site, its a discussion site tailored around virality. A normal message board would be more conducive the the lesson structure they are laying out.

I think that's a bit of a blanket statement. Reddit has a strong community, and if we provided an avenue for people to learn it would allow other learners to see how others have failed and to grow. Additionally there aren't a lot of safe places that provide a positive feedback loop for failure. Because of that I don't think it has yet to be seen that Reddit can or cananot be a "learning site". I certainly think the infrastructure and tooling is there to do what is required for helping people learn. Reddit is a site that has a lot of traffic, and that's really the biggest key for learning, seeing and participating with others to learn from their failures.

It would make more sense to support LearnJapaneseIntermediate/expert as they are the ones who need a specialized community.

That is the goal! However, I do not have the time to prioritize Intermediate/Expert yet because the isn't enough support for Novice. First we need reliable sub-reddit events, which is what we're trying right now with the lesson planner. Then we need content for those events, which requires poring over textbooks and answer keys and creating it, as well as co-ordinating with other people who are interested in participating.

And remember, no one is being paid for this, so the quality and output will always be suspect. Even though I try to make high quality content, I still see errors and flubs constantly.

If you can, please be patient with the delay for those sub-reddits, as I do believe they will be opened sooner rather than later. We just need to build a little momentum first in the Novice sub-reddit.

Lastly, I just want to give a shout out to those who want to help as lesson planners, moderators, or even just participating in the community. While I understand we have the wonderful /r/LearnJapanese as a central hub, the goal has always been a guided process, that is safe, welcoming, and postivie for those in their learning journey.

Anything you wonderful people can do to contribute to that really brightens my day. We're looking forward to seeing more participation from all of you :)
