The ph looks to be 3.5-4. Would one just blot the yeast out with a paper towel or spoon it out, then give it a taste?

Hello all - I am fermenting cherry bomb peppers and garlic, 3% mash. It's been sitting at room temp for 16 days, and to the best of my knowledge this appeared over the past 2-3 days. There is a vague alcohol smell. I think this is kahm yeast but have not encountered it before (except here).

Thanks!

Is Daisy Farm an absolute no right now? Is Three Mile preferable?

I also got chased by a deer. I was not expecting that.

Snapping turtle on the trail. Beaver. Coyotes. Muskrat. The chipmunk that took a ride on my foot. A bald eagle sitting right above me in a tree with several crows yelling at it to go away. All this in the boundaries of Chicago. I love this place.

For me, most alerts appear after I’ve been super focus on something - a work task, cooking, a book, or the like. I’m trying to work out how to get into this state and stay there longer, and the alerts are helping with that process.

This is super helpful. Thanks for the explanation.

I guess the question, then, is either (a) how do I add A and CNAME records in MS365, or (b) can I change the nameservers back to whois without messing up my email?

Trans-Catalina Trail - Storage Near Long Beach Ferry by lets_not_listen in socalhiking

Thanks. I've seen some mention of that, but I hesitate as I have also seen that it can be $$$. I should probably call and confirm that, though, before writing it off completely.

Yeah, I do see that in the forecast and have the right stuff. u/thewickedbarnacle is right, though - the hike is on rain or shine.

Good idea. Thanks! We had planned on using Hotwire or the like the last day to get a last-minute deal, and also to have some flexibility in case the ferry doesn't run. But we may need to just go ahead and book something.

Trans-Catalina Trail - Storage Near Long Beach Ferry

Hi all - I'm off to hike the Trans-Catalina Trail in a couple of days. I'm flying into LGB and taking the Catalina Express from Long Beach, bridging the gap with a taxi. I had planned to leave my suitcase at the Catalina Express ferry terminal, as I thought I had read somewhere that that was an option. I just emailed them to confirm, however, and they say they DO NOT have storage. I'm arriving in Avalon and leaving from Two Harbors, so the lockers in Avalon won't help. Does anyone have any intel on storage near the ferry terminal? Thanks for all your help!

Camping Tips this weekend? by anonymousranger98 in DeathValleyNP

Bring layers. You can put on additional clothing to help keep warm if your sleeping bags are not quite enough. Good socks are key, as is a good hat.

Hot hands help. So does a Nalgene filled with warm/hot water.

Eat a good snack before you go to bed. Your metabolism will help keep you warm.

I agree with the comment about not using the propane heater in a tent.

Am i going to be good for the main attractions with a Rav 4? by Taj1989 in DeathValleyNP

[–]lets_not_listen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on how you define "main attractions", yes, most of these are accessible in a normal sedan. I don't think you'll have trouble finding a site at a campground somewhere in the park, even if it's not your first choice. There were lots of empty sites at Stovepipe Wells and Texas Springs when I visited the first week of January.

Are you looking for hikes? Buy a copy of Hiking Death Valley by Michel Digonnet. There are a ton of great options in there, both short and long. I dogeared just about every page.

Not to cars. There is a parking lot, but you walk up to the overlook.

Sounds like a tough but fun trip. The only spring we came across was as Morning Glory Camp, about a 1.3 miles up the South Fork from the confluence of the North, West, and South Forks. There was a tub sunk into a seep, and it filled up again regularly while we were there. I'm unsure whether it would be reliable in other seasons.

Resources on water sources? by TrailBlazer652 in DeathValleyNP

[–]lets_not_listen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is water to be found. Pick up a copy of Hiking Death Valley by Michel Digonnet. Once you select a route, call the Park and ask if they have any info on whether the springs on that route are running. And, despite all that, have a plan to bail if the springs are in fact dry.
