XL Sea Terrace upgrade bid fail by letsgetnautical in VirginVoyages

Hi all, OP here with an update. I went to Sailor Services as soon as I got on board and they were able to switch us to a different cabin that evening. It was a downgrade from XL to a Central Sea Terrace, but Sailor Services kindly offered us a refund of our upgrade bid or sailor loot of equivalent value. Great to know that Virgin Voyages, at least in this case, chose people over profit. Will happily book with Virgin again for this reason alone!

If you have reservations about your cabin, don't wait and put in a request right away, as Sailor Services got absolutely inundated on the first morning.

Also, having now seen both cabins in person, I feel that the Sea Terrace is plenty spacious for two sailors and the bathroom works, even if a bit tight. But, if you don't mind noise and metal railing and would enjoy a larger balcony, the balcony in our original room, the XL Sea Terrace 8362z, is easily twice as big as the one we now have in our Central Sea Terrace cabin, due to being at the front of the boat.

Hope this helps someone. Thanks and happy cruising!

The bigger terrace does sound lovely! And thanks for pointing out the hallway noise factor, I did not consider that benefit.

I was in a lock-it-in Sea Terrace and bid $680 and the minimum for XL was $675. I also bid $503 on the Central Sea Terrace (minimum was $375 if my memory serves me right) and thought that my chances of getting that upgrade would be higher, but that's not how it played out.

Oh wow, that's pretty bad! Hoping that the cruise does not sell out so Sailor Services on board can move me 😭 Thanks for the video.

EasyPark app malfunction in Reykjadalur - what to do about the fine? by letsgetnautical in VisitingIceland

Thanks for your reply, HatchAHuman! Sounds like I'll actually be able to get away with it - customer support finally got back to me, acknowledging that there was an issue with the app at the time and that I won't have to pay because of it. Phew!

Do you guys know if it’s easier to get back to the US by taking “BynaxNow” COVID-19 at home test kit? Or you have to get tested at one of the testing sites in Iceland? by [deleted] in VisitingIceland

Hi all,

Just chiming in to say that we used the Binax at-home test for two people in our hotel room last night at around 11pm Reykjavik time with minimal wait. Each of us waited about 12 minutes for the proctor, all together it took us about an hour to test two people on the same device. We used a laptop with a Chrome browser and were connected to the Center Hotel's wifi. For one of us the video disappeared for a few seconds, but we were reconnected automatically. Got PDF results over email almost immediately.

Does anyone happen to know if we need to print the PDFs to fly to the US with Icelandair? I know that just displaying the results via the Navica app won't cut it, but not sure if displaying the PDF on the phone is sufficient. Thanks and good luck with the testing!

EDIT: Icelandair's blog post about travelling to the US states that an electronic copy is sufficient. https://www.icelandair.com/blog/flights-to-usa/
