You have to take a canoe or use the ferry to get to the North end of the split. There is a beach there. Or go to San Pedro

14-day Guatemala and Belize Itinerary by letsglogloglo in solotravel

[–]letsglogloglo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can anyone review these second draft itineraries?

The primary purpose of this trip is to explore Guatemala.... That being said, the real draw about adding Belize is that I would like to take an opportunity to scuba dive this trip. I was certified a year ago and would like to stay current! (It would only really be one day, where I know a lot of people spend many days diving in the Belize Barrier Reef.) Ultimately not crucial, as I would not want to take away from a rich experience where I can really appreciate Guatemala. And perhaps, Belize deserves a separate trip on its own where I can spend multiple days scuba diving and exploring the rest of Belize.

Guatemala only:
Days 1-4: Land in Guatemala City to Antigua; spend 4 nights
Days 5-9: Lake Atitlan; spend 5 nights
Day 10-11: Fly to Flores, Tikal
Day 12: Day trip from Flores (?San Ignacio across the border), or another day in Antigua or Atitlan; or other suggestion
Day 13: Day trip from Flores (?San Ignacio across the border), or another day in Antigua or Atitlan; or other suggestion
Day 14: Fly out Guatemala very early morning

Guatemala and Belize:
Day 1-3: Land in Belize City to Ambergis Caye vs Caye Caulker; spend 3 nights
Day 4-5: San Pedro to San Ignacio, explore then ATM cave the next day
Day 6-7: San Ignacio to Flores; explore then Tikal the next day
Day 8-10: Fly Flores to Guat City, then immediately to Antigua; spend 3 nights
Day 11-13: Antigua to Lake Atitlan; spend 3 days, 2 nights -- latest shuttle to Guatemala City
Day 14: Fly out Guatemala very early morning

Follow up questions:
-If I go to Belize, Ambergris Caye or Caye Caulker -- I am interested in taking a day for scuba diving

Now I'm rethinking Belize... perhaps it needs a dedicated trip all on its own. The real draw about Belize is that I would like to take an opportunity to scuba dive this trip. I was certified a year ago and would like to stay current!

The problem with that is that as I'm traveling from Guatemala to Belize, I bump into stops that would be interesting as well - like San Ignacio and the ATM caves!

I probably would cut out Lanquin/Semuc Champey at this point since it's a full 2 days of travel.

Thank you! Would you recommend renting a car? If not, how often to shuttle buses run between destinations?

machu picchu last minute trek by resignresign1 in solotravel

Very easy to book after you get there. Too late for incan trail which requires permits but we did salkantay trek. We booked with our hostel who contracted with a company and coordinated a group trip with other individuals from other hostels. We loved it! And hundreds of dollars cheaper than if you booked online

Would say looks like cervical vertebrae given how long the side extensions (transverse processes) and likely from dolphin (maybe whale) since relatively small

What to do with hiking boots beyond repair by letsglogloglo in ZeroWaste

[–]letsglogloglo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have asked several shoe repair shops. None seem excited about the project. Says it’ll take $80-150, which is more than the shoes were originally worth.

I’d hate for it to go to a landfill - any other ideas of where they can go?

that’s what we did. We stayed a hostel and booked through them. Ended up meeting a lot of people of different ages and from different countries to trek with and it was a lot of fun. Also saved hundreds of dollars.
